1 Newsletter 53 19 September 2017 IN THIS EDITION: Call for Photo Submissions SCLP Update Art Project Day Wrap Up Community BBQ Clarendon Bonfire Upcoming Events 2017 Living with Bushfires Community Conference Moorabool Recovery—Scotsburn Fire SCLP SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS The Scotsburn Community Leadership Program received a number of applications and will commence in October 2017. The free program will see 9 community leaders with varying backgrounds undertake personal leadership development and fire preparedness training and will incorporate site visits and guest speakers over a 3 month period. Participants will also develop and implement the Fire Game which is an interactive board game developed by the Surf Coast Shire to raise awareness around planning for bushfires. The game will be tailored to the Scotsburn Area. We look forward to following the progress of participants during the course of the program. 2017 LIVING WITH BUSHFIRE COMMUNITY CONFERENCE Victorians will have the opportunity to hear from leading industry experts including fire ecologists and community emergency groups to gain valuable insight and provide practical knowledge on bushfire risk. Federation University is delighted to be hosting the fourth Living with Bushfire Community Conference on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 October 2017, at the Mt Helen Campus, Ballarat. The conference is a joint initiative of Local Governments, CFA, DELWP. Federation University, Parks Victoria and other emergency management organisations. The Living with Bushfire Community Conference brings together emergency management organisations, community groups, decision makers, industry, researchers, and community members to share knowledge and contribute to community resilience in the Grampians region and across Victoria. Registrations are now open – At only $25/day it really is great value as there is a great line up of knowledgeable and engaging speakers. CALL FOR PHOTO SUBMISSIONS As part of the Scotsburn Art Project, there will be the development of a photo book showcasing recovery events, we are calling for any photos you may have for submission into the book. The Living with Bushfires Community Conference will be held 6 & 7 October at Federation University. Anyone wishing to contribute photos, paintings or sculptures to the Scotsburn Exhibition component of the conference can do so by contacting Michelle on 0419 932 751. Further details about the conference and how to register can be found on page 4.

On Sunday 10 September 15 residents attended the Block Printing Art Project Day class run by Rowan Jones at the Scotsburn Public Hall. Participants enjoyed learning about the history and various techniques and tools used in India for block printing. The lovely spring weather inspired participants to create colourful masterpieces such as framed fabrics, cards, bookmarks and notebook covers. Below are some pictures of the workshop taking place.
