THE MOON AND QUALITIES ACCORDING TO PHASE

AL-BIRUNI

FIFTH CHART

Concerning sect, this is diurnal chart. We have Leo rising. The Moon is by phase a New

Moon, the qualities of this moon are hot and wet. The Moon is in the sign of Taurus

which is cold and dry. Concerning the phase of this Moon, we have here a Moon that is

energetic, likes to move quickly and needs movement and action. However, the qualities

imposed by the sign are completely different in the sense of what the external

conditions are imposing to this Moon: coldness and dryness. Coldness: low energy,

imposes things through slowing things down and imposes boundaries, limits and

separation (dryness). In this case it is important to know also that the Moon in thisdiurnal chart is not comfortable (out of sect) , and also is a Moon that will be

experiencing problems since the external conditions are not favourable to its expression.

The Moon here will be very uncomfortable by phase*** see my notes, sign and sect

qualities.

The Moon is receiving sextiles aspects from Sun and Jupiter, this is a little wide for a

sextile as there are 9 degrees between the Moon and Jupiter and 16 degrees between

the Sun and Moon. I do concede that if you took into account moiety then this would

cover a sextile this one a benefic planet. Probably the effects on the Moon, not only due

the sextile, are benefic since Sun and Jupiter are also planet that are in Sect in this

chart. Since the Moon is in the 10thHouse, the problems manifested by this Moon will

be expressed in areas of life related to the area of professional activity. Yes, I do agree

with this. The other thing too that we must take into account event though at this stage

we have not yet dicussed Essential Dignity bit one cannot ignore the f act that the Moon

is in exaltation and exalted planets always demand the best!

***NOTES: Antonio, this Moon is not a New Moon but a Third Quarter Moon as it is

past the Full Moon point. I think you have mistaken this by looking at the Moon as

rising before the Sunhowever it isdecreasing in light. When you look for the lunar

phases always look to whether the Moon isseparating from the Sun by sign that is

moving forward in the direction of the signs: if so, the Moon will be increasing in lighthence either a New or Full Moon. Alternatively, if the Moon is approaching the Sun

by sign by sign that is moving forward in the direction of the signs:if so, the Moon is

decreasing in light hence either a 3rd

Quarter or Balsamic/New Moon. In this chart

the Moon at 29 Taurus is moving toward the Sunby sign and is decreasing in lightso,

if you looked up at the sky at the moment of this birth the Moon would be less than a

quarter in size. This then makes this Moon a 3rd

Quarter Moon with the qualities of

COLD/WET while the sign of Taurus is COLD/DRY. Therefore the dominant quality

here is COLD

Concerning sect, this is a nocturnal chart. We have Aquarius rising. The Moon is by

phase a Crescent Phase however it is more past crescent and between 1st quarter and

Full therefore hot/dryMoonyes, as it ismoving away from the Sunhence increasing

in light, so the qualities of this Moon according to Al-Biruni are hot and dry. The

Moon is in the Sign of Gemini, which is hot and moist or wet. This Moon by phase likes

to move quickly, has a high level of energy and needs movement and action. All thisaction is looking for setting up boundaries and limits, likes to break bonds and looks for

objectivity. The Moon by sign finds an environment where also the action qualities are

favoured (hot) but the need for connections (wet) is not favoured.Actually, the wetness

favours connection but the phase does not as it is hot/dry Probably this Moon will feel

quite comfortable, but not completely. By phase the Moon will always try to impose a

left brain perspective: objectivity, logical thinking and so on. While by sign the Moon

will always try to impose a right brain perspective: subjectivity and creative. You can

look at the quality in common of phase and sign and we have HOT so one can say that

this Moon will like to move quickly.

The Moon is receiving a quadrature aspect from the Ascendantjust a point here,Antonio, points/angles like the Ascendnat, MC, Descendant, IC and Nodes are passive

so they cannot MAKE an aspect although they can receive them. Only planets, the

active agents of a chart, can MAKE aspects. So, we say that the Moon ASPECTS the

Ascendant rather than the other way around. , and a sextile with the Sun. The

quadrature with the Ascendant will cause problems to this person on his self-expression.

The Moon is manifesting its conflicts in the Fifth House, so probably on the areas of

pleasure, hobbies, and so on.And possibly children.

SEVENTH CHART

We are in a diurnal chart, so by sect, the Moon will be out of sect in this chart. We

have Scorpio rising. By phase (quadrature between Sun and the Moon) the Moon is hot

and dry and by sign (Virgo) is cold and dry. The phase has not quite reached 1st

quarter as the Moon is only 51 degrees from the Sun hence the phase is between New

and 1stquarter and so it is HOT/WET By phase the Moon moves quickly and generates

action and is energetic (hot)

but wants to impose limits, separate, looks for objectivity(dry) . The need for objectivity and the left-brain approach to the world events will be

fulfilled or satisfied being in Virgo (dry). Probably the problem will be in the rhythm of

doing or approaching things, by phase the way will be very energetic,yes because itis

moving quickly to make connectionsby sign it will have to slow down its rhythm. I

think that this Moon is quite comfortable in this placement. However, not always be so

comfortable since this Moon is out of sect.It may have to do be the odd person out.

There is a conjunction of Moon and Pluto, Pluto intensifies the qualities of this Moon.

The Moon is placed in the 11th

House, the house of friends, so probably friendship will

be an important topic in the life of this person. Due to the Moon position, meeting the

adequate friends will not always be easy.Or there may be issue of trust and betrayalwithin groups.

EIGHTH CHART

We are in a nocturnal chart, so by sect the Moon is in Sect in this chart. We have

Gemini rising. By phase the Moon is cold and dryActually the Moon is between the 1st

quarter and the Full Moon so it is by quality HOT/DRY and by Sign, since the Moon is

in Cancer, we have a cold and moist or wet environment. This placement is quite

comfortable for this Moon since it shares by phase and by sign the qualities of being

cold. Here cold imposes a slow rhythm when approaching life and events, though by

phase has a left-brain approach, which by sign a right brain perspective.

There is an opposition to Saturn, also according to Al-Biruni Moon and Saturn are

mutually harmful planets.Yes, most definitely.From Saturn the Moon receives cold and

dryness, so by phase the Moon will be comfortable, not so much by Sign. The Moon is

in the First House, so all these conflict will be expressed by the body and probably in

the health of this person. Quite so. Also, a Moon in the 1sthouse is a difficult placementbecause ones emotions and security are visible and thus there is vulnerability.

A good attempt, Antonio. What I will suggest is that you practice looking for the lunar

phase. This diagram may be helpful:
