THESE NOTES ARE EXPOSED FOR THE PURPOSE OF POSTING THIS SLIDSHOW ONLINE:

Why online learning?• Prepares our students for higher education. Preparing students is part of so many of our

schools mission statements. Stats say that 96% of today’s college students will be taking at least one online class. Moodle is commonly used throughout the college community.

• Improve what we do: Online learning is a clear indication that there are new tools that can take students to higher levels than ever before.

• Dynamic content rather than static content. For example: paper versus digital content. Now: Students read/write essays ..well, how about being able to connect or hyperlink to a topic with a video, slideshow, website or even a podcast.

• Old way: students may see a lesson in a classroom just one time. With Moodle, it is available anytime, anywhere. Students can see it often…blog about it. review again….repetition does help…

• Collaborative learning…works in the classroom…blog. discussion board. assured that 100% participate…rather than in one classroom…forums…enable teacher in his her class…see shy students flourish…more authentic and so much more motivating and engaging…

• Assessment piece is there…develop questions…creativity..• School/home relations…students receive higher levels…because parents are involved….• There are so many more reasons to promote online learning.

Introducing...... Moodle! Moodle is an alternative to commercial online learning solutions such as Blackboard, and is distributed free under open source licensing.

Moodle’s modular design makes it easy to create new courses, adding content that will engage learners.

Moodle’s intuitive interface makes it easy for instructors to create courses. Students require only basic browser skills to begin learning.

• I made it very clear that I was new to this and asked my students for patience and told them I would also have patience with them as we all began our online course.
