The market cross dates from 1682 and symbolises the authority vested in the city by royal charters (dated and inscribed Joseph Reed Mayor 1682). It replaced a similar medieval cross. Circular flight of 5 steps [6th now buried] from the centre of which rises a pillar surmounted by a lion sitting holding a scroll with the city arms; sundial faces on top of piller. Owned/maintained by City Council. In good condition, major repairs /refurbished August 2009. Additional work to add support to base in March 2012.
MARKET CROSS GREENMARKET
The Statue of James Steel was erected in 1859 and is situated opposite Marks and Spencers on English Street. The statue consists of a granite pedestal with base and a Carrara marble figure. Owned/maintained by City Council. In good condition – cleaned in 2008. Given light clean and lime shelter coat in 2011.

The memorial is a granite celtic style cross with carved sword, there are 15 names listed. The cross is located in the garden of Botcherby Community Centre. Maintained by Carlisle City Council. Good condition
BOTCHERBY WAR MEMORIAL VICTORIA ROAD
Marble plaque inscribed with the names of members of the Howie Boyd Hall, a mission hall attached to Warwick Road Presbyterian Church, who serves and those who were killed in WW1. The plaque is now located in a garden at Bishop Goodwin Primary School. In good condition and maintained by the school.

Bronze plaque inscribed with names of soldiers from the 24th (Westmorland and Cumberland) Company, 8th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry who fought in the Boer War, located in the Museum of Military Life in Carlisle Castle. In good condition, maintained by the museum.

The memorial is a small sandstone structure supporting an inscribed plaque. It is located at the junction of two roads in the cemetery and is set on a tiered sandstone flag base. Maintained by Carlisle City Council. In good condition, refurbished in June 2014.
STANWIX CEMETERY WAR MEMORIAL SCOTLAND ROAD
The monument is a square section granite obelisk with carved draped urn on top set in a circular flower bed with grass surround in the centre of the cemetery. Two sides of the memorial are inscribed with names Maintained by Carlisle City Council. In good condition, professionally cleaned in May 2014.
UPPERBY CEMETERY WAR MEMORIAL MANOR ROAD
The memorial is a plaque bearing the city crest listing the names, service, regiment and former department of Carlisle Corporation employees who were killed in action in the second world war. There are 23 names on the memorial Maintained by Carlisle City Council. In good condition, refurbished in May 2014.
