Competitor fact file – Our Brand

A brand is the name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one product or organisation from another. The Linde Group has strong brands, such as “BOC” and “Gas & Gear”, in the South Pacific that serve to distinguish us from our competitors and represent our values to our customers. Protecting our brand and the value it represents to customers is important.

The above examples are not from BOC nor from a Gas & Gear. They were used by a competitor’s gas agent, without any authorisation from BOC. Unauthorised use of our brands can be illegal and also causes confusion for our customers. For example, radio advertising telling customers to go into their local “Gas & Gear” could result in customers arriving at this competitor’s agent instead of our own stores.

If you are aware of any organisation that is using our brands, whether it is the name, logo, or anything else that could be mistaken as representing BOC, please send it in. They may not be aware that they are using our trademarks.

If you have any information about possible mis-use of our brands by competitors or any other competitor information, please send it in. Let us know on [email protected]

Have you seen something like these above examples in your area?

Colac Show Day VIC, November 1st - 3rd

BackgroundBOC have been supporting the local agent over a number of years at the Colac show, however we have never supported them to this magnitude before. With a BOC new territoryManager in the area, this was a great opportunity to work with the agent and make the 150year celebration a great success! The main objective was to promote EES (who in theprocess of building a dedicated retail store) they are a BOC Gas Agent they sell steel plusthey have a fabrication business. They almost exclusively sell BOC products at workshop andESS are building a new retail area in their business.

The lure of Jason Bright and the Team BOC Car attending plus the local significance of the150th show, gave EES and BOC the perfect opportunity to negotiate a fantastic site locationwith power and they were also given permission to do live welding demos on site.

StockA lot of the products show cased at the show were chosen due to the OCT- NOV catalogue special deals. They displayed the following products:

- Full speedglas 100V range and limited 9100XX range plus Weldguard helmets- BOC and Magmate Master kits- Cut 40 and Cut 100 & BOC 17.3 Air Compressor- Steelblue Boots - MAP Gas- Magmate MMA 140 and 160- BOC SmoothArc Mig 180,MMA 130, MMA180,TIG 185 ACDC, 185 Multiprocess, 200C & 275C Advance- Plus BOC consumables

Colac Show Day VIC continued...

Sales resultsThis was an incredibly successful event for both BOC and ESS. We sold over 90% of thestock that was supplied to the agent and over 65% of the demonstration that took placeresulted in sales. Total sales figures are not in yet.

Post event resultsThe relationship between BOC and our agent is significantly strengthened particularly as thisagent is moving into a new store with more of retail focus. This has given BOC a really goodopportunity to show which products they should stock in their new store. Having participated in the Colac show in the past few years, EES are extremely pleased with exposure they gained from this year’s event in comparison to previous years.

Building the BOC brandThe Team BOC Promo car was arranged for the stand Plus Jason Bright was at the show toofor 2 hours. Some Team BOC posters have been arranged for Jason to sign at the event andwe have arranged a competition to run over the 3 day show to win a Team BOC Zip up.There were Teardrop Flags to promote outside their tent, plus the small BOC red marquee –the sea of red machines and balloons certainly added to the effect or the stand.

Sales Leads and commitmentESS and BOC gained many solid leads of opportunities in the area from the show – Plus therelationship between BOC and ESS has been significantly strengthened particularly. EESthemselves are extremely pleased with exposure in the local area and expect.
