THE RECORD January 2019 VOLUME 58

Happy New Year 2019!

Before we jump too far into 2019, let’s reflect on the joys and struggles that the Lord brought to the people of Our Redeemer in 2018.

> The Call Committee continued to faithfully serve and seek out a new pastor for Our Redeemer. We issued three Calls to pastors, all of which were declined.

> After a year of planning, the Immigrant Skilled Training began in June! Students learned basic computer skills each week and were able to get jobs in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The leadership of the class includes members of Our Redeemer, Pastor Saye Beipa and Melvin Payekar.

> The CCC hired a new director, Sarah Beach. Sarah has been at the CCC for five years and has done very well in her new role. They also hired Shane Richau as the Administrative Coordinator. Sarah and Shane are doing a great job leading the CCC!

> After the Fellowship Center was turned into a jungle following a rain storm in April, the flat roof of the building was replaced in May. I am happy to report the room has had no jungle reoccurrences since.

> This fall brought the kickoff of a District-wide reading plan called Bring It Home. Over 100 Bibles were purchased, and families are daily reading the Word together in their home. This reading plan will continue well into 2019.

> In December, some improvements were made to the property. Thanks to grants from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund and the ORLC Endowment Fund, new outdoor signs were purchased for the three driveway entrances to the building. A secure system was added to the main entrance of the building, allowing the doors to lock and unlock automatically.

> In July I celebrated ten years in the ministry, all of which have been at Our Redeemer. It has been a joy to serve among you! As Matt, Ben and I anxiously await the arrival of baby #2, I am thankful for your support and care for us through the years – what a blessing you are to us 😊😊.

What are you looking forward to in 2019? Starting a new job? Being one year closer to retirement? Graduating high school or college? A new baby? A family vacation? A pastoral Call accepted? Whatever it may be, know that the Lord is with you. As I reflect on the list above, I see God’s mighty hand at work in and through the people or Our Redeemer. How exciting to look forward to God’s continued blessings among us in 2019.

Serving Him,

DCE Emily Sagissor

BiBle StudieS Sunday Mornings On January 6th and 13th we will be finishing the study of “The Christmas Experience”. Beginning January 20th, we will begin a short (6 week) study on the persecution of Christians around the world. The title of the study hasn’t been picked out yet as I am currently looking at two possibilities. Wednesday Evenings On January 16th we will begin a study entitled “Unshakable Hope – Building Your Life on the Promises of God.” This study will take a look at some of the promises of God that can encourage us as we face the problems that everyday life can bring our way. These promises will also equip us to make wise decisions. So join us in the library from 6-7:00 PM each Wednesday evening.

Afternoon At the MovieS January 20th at 2:00 PM we will be watching “God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness”. This is the third in the God’s Not Dead series and the setting is a college campus once again. This time they are trying to rid the campus of the campus church.

How does a snowman get around? He rides an icicle! What do snowmen eat for breakfast? Frosted Flakes! Why did the farmer only wear one boot to town? He heard there would be a 50% chance of snow! A snowman couple were celebrating their sons birthday. The Mother brought in a carrot cake made up beautifully with white and blue icing. The son cut himself a real big piece and took a big bite promptly spitting it out and screaming “Mom this is disgusting it tastes like boogers!” “Well what do you expect?” Questioned the Snow Mother. “You asked for carrot cake!”

Message from the CCC We had a wonderful turnout for our Christmas Program. Thank you to all who attended and helped celebrate our Savior’s birth with the children. After the program, we enjoyed cookies and hot cocoa. Seeing the happy children with their parents and grandparents was a joy for all of us. As we look to the new year, please consider volunteering time with the teachers and children of the CCC. Extra help reading, rocking, doing puzzles, playing games, or zipping jackets is always welcomed. Please see Sarah or Shane in the CCC office if you are interested. May your heart be lifted in praise this Christmas for the wonderful gift of Jesus and the joy He brings to our lives. Have a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year!

When our lives are running smoothly, help us to turn to You in thanksgiving and praise. When our lives are in turmoil, help us turn to You for comfort and strength. By Your Word, assure us of Your loving presence in our daily lives. Keep us ever mindful of Your loving promise to always be with us. We pray now for these fellow members of Our Redeemer:

A new session of GriefShare will begin at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 6 at 2 pm lower level Prayer Room (new library). Help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend is offered through the 13-week GriefShare group sessions. A workbook is used and helps to peel off bitterness, resentment, anger, hurt, and offenses in people’s hearts; it connects them to Christ and helps them avoid getting stuck in their grief.

OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH2019 WORK LIST

PLEASE SAVE THIS SHEET

This list contains the names of all members of the congregation in family units (with theexception of the elderly or incapacitated) on twelve lists, one for each month of the year. Yourmonth to serve may be different than last year, so check to see which month includes your familyand who will be your chairperson. You will be notified by letter before the first of the month. The co-chair-people will be responsible for calling workers and organizing the work as it occurs. You may be asked to serve at a wedding, provide food for a funeral or church function, etc.

If you are called for an event and find it impossible to help, a cash donation will be appreciated tohelp pay for costs.

We sincerely hope that each of you will be involved in areas that concern our church, learn toknow one another better, start new friendships, and enjoy fellowship together.
