The Challenge

The Montebelo Aguieira Lake Resort& Spa is a tourist resort and residentialvenue with an area of 35 hectares, locatedon the Albufeira da Aguieira and consistingof 152 Apartments and Villas, a hotel, amultipurpose pavilion with a restaurantthat can host 400 people and a Marinawith 400 berths for nautical activities.

Within the facility there are alsoswimming pools, spa, tennis courts,playground and several walking andcycling paths, among other equipmentpresent.

• the creation of an extensive localnetwork to connect cameras andimage recorder with the addeddifficulty because there are no pipesor the ability to open ditches for thepassage of cables;

• choosing a good camcorder with nightlighting and weatherproof to allow foroutdoor and indoor use in the multipurpose pavillion;

• the choice of a discreet, yet stylishcamera with night lighting and PoEcapability to be used in existing UTPcabling.

A 24hour reception ensures thatvisitors and residents are alwaysassisted on arrival at the resort.

In order to protect the people andproperty, and to ensure smoothfunctioning of the whole enterprise, ithas become necessary to install avideo surveillance system in order toprovide global security and continuedassistance in the resort, in existingroads, the inland areas and the Marina,particularly by addressing the followingchallenges:

The Solution

The Wimax network and existingfiber optic link to the same IP network,multipurpose pavilion, concierge,reception and Marina.

The creation of a wireless networkbased on WiMax technology in theunlicensed frequency range (5.470 to5.725 GHz) was the initial response tothe constraints arising from lack ofpipelines in the venture or the possibilityof creating an underground network toconnect the exterior cameras.

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperabilityfor Microwave Access) system is awireless digital communications systembased on the IEEE 802.16. This patternis similar to standard WiFi (IEEE802.11), already widespread, but addsthe latest knowledge and resources,aiming at better communicationperformance. WiMAX can providebroadband up to 50Km away to fixedstations.

Built in 2009, the tourist village andresidential vicinity runs three technologicalmethods to give way for the implementationof the system of video surveillance CCTVIP, WiMax and IP network.

The solution is implemented through acentralized system for monitoring andrecording of images, obtained from 20cameras in a single video server NVR withnetwork access to a PC and browser on thesame network.

This IP transport network, which islinked by cable, the video cameras andIP cameras differ from the analoguecameras by incorporating the videoencoder and therefore have an Ethernetoutput. For permanent recording ofimages was used NVR (Network VideoRecorder) was used on the samenetwork.

The solution for the distribution of IPsignal throughout the resort consists ofan multidirectional WiMAX Base Stationwith an area of 360 degrees, placed nearthe reception building and 11 units percustomer, which carry the signal from thecamera to the central location. The radioterminal equipment has a 10/100BaseTEthernet output, so each customer unit isconnected via cable to a video camera.

With the exception of the camerasmounted to the multipurpose unit thatshare only one client's output and a poleunit which is shared by two cameras.

The Wimax antenna in the multipurpose pavillion also carries the camerasignals from the marina through its fiberoptic cables.

The outdoor cameras and outdoorWiMAX antennas were placed onlighting columns and adapted in order tohave permanent electricity to power theequipment.

The height was increased to allowthe camera to be placed on the lightingpoles with an extra 1.5m which areclamped on the lighting poles.

The Wimax network, originallyintended only to support the tele, alsoended up being used to carry voicesignals (VoIP) to the multipurposepavilion / restaurant.

The videosurveillance solution wasdeveloped with IP cameras from Vivotek.In total were installed 18 cameras (IPVivotek IP7142, SD7151 and FD7132),14 of which are on the exterior, and twomore servers (Vivotek VS7100) tointegrate existing analog cameras in theMarina.

As the Marina already had a fibreoptic link to the multipurpose pavillion,the two video servers and camera SpeedDome in the Marina use this link tointegrate into the Wimax network.

• 10 IP7142 cameras to cover theresort's streets, mounted on ninelighting columns with Wimaxantennas;

• 1 IP7142 camera to cover the area ofthe gatehouse, wall mounted andconnected to an antenna mastinstalled on Wimax antenna TV;

• 1 IP7142 camera outside, mounted onthe wall to cover the access to theMarina and connected to the multipurpose pavillion via fiber optic cable;

• 4 cameras with infrared DOMEFD7132, to cover the entries withinthe multipurpose pavillion sharing thesame antenna Wimax;

• 1 mobile Speeddome SD7151camera, attached to the Wimaxantenna in the multipurpose pavillion,allowing the coverage of the nearbyenvironment and parking space;

• 1 mobile Speed dome SD7151 outdoorcamera, wallmounted to cover theMarina which is connected via fiber opticcables to the multipurpose pavillion;

• 2 Vivotek VS7100 video servers for theintegration of two existing analogcameras in the Marina and connectedto the fiber optic cables to the multipurpose pavillion;

In the reception, the video surveillancemonitoring center has been installed,

giving access to all the surveillance pointsscattered across the whole vicinity.Therecording center consists of a rack with avideo server Qnap VS5020V, with thecapacity for 20 cameras and five 500 GBdisks for recording and monitoring ofimages.

This equipment is connected to thesame IP network used by the cameras.The NVR is accessible through thebrowser and associated IP address fromanywhere on the network, to monitor andquery images.

The gatehouse also has installed amonitoring system of video surveillanceand is in constant contact with themonitoring center installed at thereception.

In summary, for videosurveillance, cameras were installed in the following:
