Draft Conceptual Framework for New Science Education Standards

• Carnegie Corporation funding two phases of work led by NRC and Achieve, linked by a joint work plan

• Draft Conceptual Framework released July 12, public comment period ends today, August 2.

• Council of State Science Supervisors held regional feedback meetings. Montana represented by: – John Graves, Science Education Professor MSU – Chris Olszewski, Curriculum Director Great Falls Public Schools

• Key Consideration for MMSTI – Follow process and submit feedback during comment periods – Possibility of future changes in science standards & resulting

impact on K-12 teacher preparation and professional development

– Inclusion of engineering
