Weareexcited tobeoffering fivepre-conferenceworkshops/field trips, threeplenarysessions,fiveMontanaFoodTalks,fifteenworkshopoptions,andakeynoteaddressbytheincredibleChefAnnCooper!Wehopethatyoufindthesenumerousopportunitiestobe inspiring and engaging. In addition to excellent sessions and the menu we haveplanned,weareofferingcontinuingeducationunitsthroughEarlyChildhoodProjectandOPI for teachers and foodservice professionals. The last statewide Montana Farm to School Conference was held at Montana StateUniversity in2012.It isamazingtoseehowmuchhashappenedsincethen.Belowisaglimpseattheincrediblefarmtoschoolprogress:

• TheMontana Farm to School Leadership Teamwas formed to help leverageresourcesandgrowcollaborationsonthestatewideleveltosupportlocalefforts.

• Montana FoodCorps service members have brought garden and food basededucation to thousands of children throughout the state and helped sourcehealthy,localfoodsforschoolmeals.

• Montana Crunch Time is in its fourth year and has brought together tens ofthousandsofMontanansincelebrationofFarmtoSchoolMonthandNationalFoodDay!

• TheMontanaHarvestoftheMonthprogrambeganthismonthatschoolsandafterschool programs throughout the state. Sites can sign-up throughout thisschoolyearforfreeat:www.montana.edu/mtharvestofthemonth.

MontanaCookFreshWorkshopMontanaTeamNutrition,Bozeman–HopeLutheranChurchkitchen,2125GrafSt–Notransportationneeded.Serving freshwhole foods in schoolmeals is a priority for a growing number of schools and childcare sites throughoutMontanaandnationwide.Thisworkshopwillprovideparticipantswiththeculinaryskillsandresourcestoefficientlypreparewhole, fresh foods including fruits,vegetables,and legumes.Theseskillswillallowparticipants tocreatetasty,attractivemealswhilemeetingmealpatternrequirementsincludingreducedsodium.Participantswillalsolearnhowtouselocalfoodsandexploreequipmentthatwillmakepreparationeasier.Chefsandschoolfoodservicestaffwillsharefirsthandknowledgeinthishands-on(andknives-on!)workshop.Allparticipantsmusthaveaquality8”chef’sknife.Lunchprovided.

LivingstonCommunityFoodSystemTourMontanaRoots,Livingston–MeetatParkHighSchoolPlantGrowthCenter(facingbaseballfields).Notransportprovided.ThisfieldtripexploresLivingstonfarmtoschoolprogrammingintheclassroom,cafeteria,andcommunity.ParticipantswilllearnabouttheParkHighSchoolgreenhouseproject,aquaponicsprojects,localfoodintheschoolmeals,andcommunitypartnerships.TheLivingstonFoodResourceCenterwilldemonstratehowcommunitypartnershipcanenhanceandgrowfarmtoschoolprogramsandsupportvibrantcommunityfoodsystems.

FollowingtheFoodfromFieldtoLunchTrayMontanaTeamNutrition,BozemanandBelgrade–MeetatGallatinValleyMallparkinglot.Bustransportationprovided.Thisworkshopwillfollowtheprocessofthelocalfoodchaininreverse,fromtheschooltraytoprocessing,thenbacktothesoil in which it grew at a local farm. Participants will enjoy a delicious school lunch and learn how a local school isimplementing farm to school andMontanaHarvestof theMonth. The field tripwill thenvisitRootCellar Foods, a localproduceprocessortolearnhowprocessorsmakeincorporatinglocalfoodseasyforschoolfoodservice.Finally,thegroupwillvisitGallatinGrown,afarmthatsellsfoodtoschoolsandotherMontanainstitutions.Lunchincluded.
