GENERAL INFORMATION

The Montana Extension service of Montana ,state college hasstandard sets of farm house plans for distribution through theagricultural engineering department. These plans are for farmhouses varying from three to eight major rooms with additionalunits such as porches, baths, utility rooms and basements. Blueprints of the plans are available for 20 cents per sheet or from40 cents to .:j(,1.00 per set, according to the plan desired. The sheetsare about 11;2 x 2 feet in size.

All of the house plans listed in this bulletin have been ap­proved by the rural housing committee of Montana State college.

Two groups of plans are listed. Group I was prepared atMontana State college in cooperation with the division of ruralrehabilitation of the Montana Relief commission. All in this grouphave been prepared for frame construction, but an additionaldetail sheet shows how brick or stucco can be used instead.

The plans in Group II were secured through the cooperationof the U. S. Department of Agriculture. There is one sheetexplaining typical framing methods with these plans. With alittle care, the construction detail sheet, that was made particularlyto supplement the Montana plans, can be used with those in thesecond group as well.

Following is a description of each plan, giving the numberof sheets and the cost of each set. Further information may beobtained from local county extension agents or from the agri­cultural engineering department, Montana State collEge, Bozeman,Montana.

Additional Detail Sheet: This sheet shows how brick veneer, solid brick,

stucco on brick and stucco may' be adapted to plans No. 1004, 1007,1013, 1014,

2001, and 2002. One sheet, 20 cents. This is an extra sheet and when desired

should be specifically ordered.

Plan No. 1004

This two-story house is 26 x 36 feet.~

The first floor has a combination dining and living room, a kitchen,

utility room, wash room, rear porch, small toilet and bedroom with a closet.

.The wash room is separate from the kitchen and provides an entrance to

the dining room without going through the kitchen. The utility room may

be used for a laundry.

The second floor has a hall, two bedrooms with closets, and a bathroom.

The basement is full-size with a laundry room, furnace room, coal room,a fruit and a vegetable room. If laundering is done in the utility room oft.he first floor, the basement laundry room may be used for other purposes.

Plan No. 1007This one-story house is 28 x 40 feet.The first fool' has a combination dining and living room, a kitchen,

washroom, bath, two bedrooms, closets and rear porch. A feature is thel'ear entrance which allows entering the wash room and dining room withoutpassing through the kitchen.

The full-size basement has a general utility and store room, a laundryroom, furnace room, and a cO,al storage room. The general utility room islarge enough to permit partitioning for a fruit and vegetable room. It alsocould serve as a children's play room.

Entrance to the basement is from 1he rear door. The platform justinside the rear door leads to the kitchen and washroom. as well as thebasement. ,

especially planned for a small Montana farm family. It has a full basementwith an extra utility room.

also provides entry into the main part of the house and space for a laundryand cream separator as wen as storage.

The basement has a coal room, furnace room, vegetable room and a larp;egeneral utility room. A bed room might be cut off the utility room. Thevegetable room has space for shelves on three or four walls.

A feature of this home is the closet space indicated in the drawing'. Itscupboards and sink in the bright corner of the kitchen make it as livableand convenient as a much larger house. The range is close to the diningroom and the pantry is conveniently offset from the kitchen and dininl'\' room.

This one-story house· is 30 x 32 feet. It has a compact arrang-ementthat utilizes all of available ·floor space and provides ample room for thesmall farm family.

The main floor has a combination dining and living room, kitchen, twobed rooms, closet, a bath room, utility room and an enclosed porch. Thefront door opens into a small entry. The rear entrance permits passing toeither the basement or kitchen without going thJ:ough the front of the house.

This house has a fuJI basement large enough for a vegetable room, afurnace room, coal room, laundry and shop, 01' storage room. The laundrycan be used as a washroom if equipped with sink and towel racks. Theutility room on the first floor also is large enough for a laundry.

Group II

The plans compnsmg this group, except No. 5519 are exchang-e plansand also described in Farmel's' Bulletin 1738, "Farmhouse Plans" and arenumbered the same as in the bulletin.

No. 6500-Construction details. This blueprint shows details of porchcornice and sill construction, porch details, typical details of cornice and sill,typical cornice, second floor construction, sill for continuous foundation,exterior wall of lapped boards, diagonal sheathing, horizontal sheathingand diagonal bracing, vertical boal'ds and battens. One sheet. 20 cents.

Plan No. 6514

This is a one-story house, size 24 x28 feet with a proposed extension thatwould make it 27 feet 6 inches x 39 feet 6 inches. The first floor contains aliving room, combination kitchen and dining room, wash room, and twobedrooms with closets. The plans also propose an addition of bedroom andbath.

The basement pla.ns contain a small storage cellar 11 x 16 feet,the remainder being unexcava~ed.

The blueprints show a perspective view, some comltnlction details, andbuilt in cabinets. Two sheets, 40 cents.

This plan shows a one-story house, size 30 feet x 37 feet 6 inches. Thefirst floor contains a living room with fireplace and closet, a combinationkitchen and dining room, a bathroom, two bedrooms with closets and fire­places, and front and rear porches. No basement is indica·ted in the plansbut could be provided in the construction. This house approaches thesquare, has large rooms, and with the fireplaces is adaptable for entertainingpurposes. With the addition of a basement for furnace, store rooms, andlaundry it could be made into an attractive farm house. Two sheets. 40cents.

Plan No. 6534

The house plan No. 6534 shows a two-story house, siz,e 23 feet 6 inchesx 33 feet with a proposed future extension 14 feet x 19 feet for a living room.The first floor plans contain a combination dining and living room, a kitchen,bathroom, bedroom with closet and large living pOI'ch.
