June 28 th , 2016 The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, campus buzzed with excitement on the eighth day, i.e. June 28 th , 2016, of Phase I of its 4 th consecutive Orientation Program - ‘Monsoon Management Magic - M 3 ’. The students actively participated in the Quiz contest and sports events held at College of Management and Economic Studies (CoMES). Besides, they appreciated the classroom sessions engaged by faculty members from college. In the morning session, Dr. Prasoom Dwivedi - Head, Department of Economics and International Business, UPES, addressed the students of Group 1 - comprising of 171 students, equally split into three houses, viz. Kumar Manglam Birla House, Anand Mahindra House and Narayan Murthy House. He talked to students about BREXITS and opportunities for them in international businesses in the imminent scenario. Simultaneously, Dr. Neeraj Anand, Professor and Head, Logistics and Supply Chain Management & Operations, addressed the students of Group 2 - comprising of 174 students, equally split into three houses, namely, Azim Premji House, Ratan Tata House and Mukesh Ambani House. He deliberated on the top 10 logistic companies in India and globally. He further discussed with students the road & highway and port initiatives (e.g. Bharatmala and Sagarmala) taken by government to promote industrial growth in country. Subsequently, lectures on economic decision making, introduction to accounting concepts and conventions, introduction to legal aspect of business, time value of money, basics of communication and negotiation skills, MS Excel modelling, Measures of Central Tendency, Measures of Dispersion, Software application in quantitative techniques, Introduction to concepts of brand management, Basics of digital/social media marketing, Sustainability marketing, MS Office skills for managers, case study pedagogy, e-learning, introduction to financial management and financial reporting, software application in quantitative techniques and anti- plagiarism were held for the teams individually in their respective classrooms.

Later, The Quiz Club organized a quiz competition in CoMES Auditorium under the able supervision of Prof. Karunakar Jha, Dr. Anita Sengar and Dr. Ginni Chawla. In all, 6 teams (1 from each house) participated in the event. The quiz covered a vast array of topics ranging from general awareness to business related and management questions. Overall seven rounds were held in which first round was the elimination round and the other six rounds were the contesting rounds. Along with the UPES faculty members Dr. T.B. Raju, Dr. Sumeet Gupta, Dr. Upananda Pani, Dr. Ankur Rastogi, Dr. Rajeshwari Deb, a faculty member from IIM Kashipur - Dr. Kumkum Bharti, Assistant Professor at the Department of Marketing, was also present at the occasion. Students thoroughly enjoyed the event and Kumar Manglam Birla house secured the first position.

In sports, Volleyball league match (Boys) and Badminton singles (Girls) matches were held on the day, wherein, in Volleyball, Mukesh Ambani house competed with Narayan Murthy house, Ratan Tata House played against Anand Mahindra house and a match between Mukesh Ambani House and Azim Premji house was held. In Badminton singles, Narayan Murthy House played against Anand Mahindra House and Azim Premji house competed with Ratan Tata House. While Mukesh Ambani House won the Volleyball league, Narayn Muthy and Ratan Tata Houses won the Badminton.
