Special Collections and Archives is sharing photocopies of letters from 19th century literary and cultural icon Lafcadio Hearn with Matsue, Japan (New Orleans’ sister city), where Hearn fell in love with the local folklore and traditional tales for which he is best known in Japan. Barbara Ewell delivered six letters last summer, and a City of New Orleans delegation, led by Donna Fraiche, former chair of Loyola’s Board of Trustees, will deliver another letter, among other gifts, in early October. The library is always grateful for the generosity of our donors and benefactors. Gift income in August 2013 was more than double that in August 2012, while FY13 gift income was more than double that in FY12. On behalf of the entire Loyola community and users of the Monroe Library today and well into the future, thank you!

The Monroe Library recently received news of a planned gift, established by a donor to recognize that her son used the library so effectively during his Loyola years, and to credit the library with her son’s success.
