A system where you as the student have a role, responsibility, and a job that earns you money in our society.

Every month you earn paychecks and bonus money. With that money, you pay fines, electricity bills, and rent for your desks. At the end of the quarter, you may purchase prizes at auctions, all with classroom economy currency.

We will be continuing this activity for the entire year. At the end of each week, we will have a chance to balance our account and update our amounts.

Nothing different from what you already do. Be a good student and do your best. You will have an “economy” job that will earn you money based on the requirements of that job.

Class Banker (2)- Keep a record of all money flowing into and out of the Central Classroom Bank. Provide Bankers with money as needed. Manage deposits made to the Central Classroom Bank. Review bank logs to double-check transactions conducted by Bankers. $850

Banker (6)- Keep banking records for about five students. Accept money for deposits and withdraws for fines. $800

Fine Officer(2) - Check the teacher's offense log for violations of class rules. Keep a record of fines and payments. $750

Electrician(2) - Monitor electricity usage in the classroom. Make sure computers, monitors and lights are turned off when not is use. Keep a log of computer and internet usage in the classroom. Assist the removal and use of borrowed technology such as laptop/ipad carts.

Recyclist/Trash (2) - Monitor the recycling bins and trash cans for appropriate deposits. Increase the school's awareness of the importance of recycling by creating signs and flyers. $750

Attendance Monitor(1) - Take daily attendance and record absences. Report absences to the teacher. Provide students with make-up materials when they return to class. Students must have a strong attendance record to be considered as a candidate. $700

Clerk(2 or 3) - Hand out papers to students. Hand out materials such as worksheets and textbooks. Collect papers or homework from students when asked. Organize the class supply shelves and keep them neat. $700

Group Leaders (6) – Lead their class groups and helps to ensure that everyone is following along with the lesson or assignment. Brings any issues or questions that group members may have to the teacher. Keeps every member in the group on task and involved.

Interior Design (2) – Straightens and makes sure that all desk, cabinets, tables and counters are clean and orderly. Also assist teacher with new seating or room arrangement. $650

Messenger (2) - Deliver written or spoken messages to people throughout the building.

Presentation Assistant (1) – Assists teacher with classroom presentations such as clicking through presentation slides or writing information on the board. $600

Homework/Class work Clerk (1) – Checks and records homework and class work completion when teachers requires their help. $600

Tutor - Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring in subjects identified by teacher. Students must be high performers in the subject for which they are chosen. $600

Marketing Director (1-2) – Assists the teacher in obtaining donations from parents and businesses for our quarterly auctions. This may require students to visit local businesses with pre-written letters asking for monetary or item donations.

Today!!! Your first assignment is to look over the job descriptions and fill out which jobs you would like to apply for. (If you don’t pick, one will be chosen for you)

You will get paid at the end of every month. A designated day each week is set aside where you can make your deposits for your bonus earnings for that week. Fines will also be deducted from you account as well. You will also get an updated amount in you account.

Just like in the real world, people have rent and bills they have to pay. You have rent that you have to pay each month for your desk. You also have bills for classroom use that you have to pay as well.

At the end of the quarter, once all bills are paid, we will have a class auction where you can bid on items that you want with the extra money you have saved after your bills have been paid.

Monthly Rent- Each month you must pay $1,000 for the usage of your desk and to stay with your group. Failure to pay rent will exclude you from the auction at the end of the quarter. If continued failure to pay rent occurs, teacher will speak to that student individually.

Electricity bills- Each month $150 bill must be paid for using the classroom and school technology. Every request to use the classroom computer for an individual assignment will cost you $5 per use. Failure to pay will result in limited privileges with technology.

The payment for performing your job at the end of each month will not be enough to cover your monthly bills. Bonuses must be earned throughout the month to supplement your account.

You must also be careful of classroom fines that will be deducted from your account. These will be for moderate offenses. If a bigger offense happens, the teacher will deal with that differently. A fineable action in another class can also be recorded and handed out as well.
