Changing Demographics
It is estimated that seniors will represent 25% of Canada’s population by 2036
Brampton has a large youth population; however, Brampton seniors continue to be a growing segment of the population
According to Census Canada, Brampton’s seniors population rose by 40% between 2011 and 2016, to total 66,270
The City is developing an Age-Friendly Brampton Strategy to meet the needs of its residents, by being inclusive and accessible, and promoting aging-in place

World Health Organization: Age-Friendly City Designation
WHO has established a global network of age-friendly cities and communities
Designation of an AFC requires development of a 3-year action plan that supports 8 domains (attributes) plus support of local mayor
Brampton now part of global network and currently seeking designation

communities that are close to amenities, green spaces, programs and services to support aging in place
Healthy Development Frameworko Assessment tool for evaluating the healthiness of existing neighbourhoods and proposed

Peel’s 10 Year Housing and Homelessness Plano 3-Year update released in 2016. Focus on Plan’s implementation
Housing for Older Adults in Peel Working Group (HOAP)o Housing Needs for Older Adults Survey, 2016, conducted by ERIN Researcho Region-wide results to assist HOAP with programming and servicing effortso Survey results for Brampton now available
