Proximal = closer to trunk of body The shoulder is proximal than the elbow
Distal = further from trunk of body The knees are distal than thigh
Medial = closer towards the middle of body The nose is medial to the ears
Lateral = farther from the middle of the body The wrists are lateral to the chest
