A Note from the Pastor...

It’s December and it’s time to prepare for Christmas! For many of us, preparing for Christmas means hanging decorations, sending/posting Christmas cards, buying presents, and trying to find some time to spend with friends and family over the holidays. While all of these activities are important, spending time with friends and family is a really important part of understanding what Christmas is. Physically connecting with friends and family is so important because it is a reflection of what God is doing in Christmas. Christmas is about incarnation. When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating that God chose to come to earth to be human and live with us. And, God doesn’t just show up a for a day or two, Jesus lived for roughly 30 years on earth before he was killed. Jesus living as a human on earth with humans was not a token expression, but an entire life spent with us. Christmas is about presence, about God choosing to be present with us. Christmas is about God spending time, years and decades, with us here on earth. What can we learn from this for our lives during this Christmas season? Christmas is about spending time with each other. Christmas is about making it a priority to spend time with family. There are so many things that come into our lives seeking our attention. While there are some things we absolutely need to pay attention to, the trick is to prioritize giving attention to those things that are life-giving. God sent Christ to earth, “so that we may have life, and have it abundantly.” Abundant life doesn’t mean a life full of things or money or Facebook friends. Abundant life is a life filled with the love of God in Christ Jesus. Abundant life can be found in relationships with friends and family and neighbors and even strangers. Abundant life at Christmas time can come from time spent together celebrating God’s gift of love, celebrating God’s choice to live among us as Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!! Pastor Erick

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for this church community who I know cares very much for people. I'm also thankful just to be a part of it all. Thanks and praise to God who keeps working through ordinary people like you and me.

Peace,

Jeremy

Preschool News Little Hands, Big Hearts

St. John Christian Preschool sponsors two children in Nicaragua through ChildHope. The children take such pride when dropping coins into the collection box. Jamy and Rodrigo, our current sponsor children, receive school uniforms, Christian education, medical checkups, and dental care. Preschoolers learned about the food, music, climate, games, language and traditions of Nicaragua during our birthday celebration day in September. Each month we learn about a new country. Our daily prayer is “We wish love, happiness, peace and food for all the children of the world” .

Supper” learning session, where they learned what

Communion is and why we celebrate it. On Sunday,

blessing for them and they will get to serve communion

with bread that they’ve made!

Memorials, Honorariums & Special Gifts

Do you know of someone who is facing a difficult time? Maybe a health issue, divorce, loss of job? St. John

has a skilled group of Stephen Ministers trained to walk along side of those in crisis, providing confidential,

one-to-one Christian care.

Do you feel God is calling you for something more? Do others note your gift to listen, encourage, care, support or pray for others? Consider becoming a Stephen Minister. Our next training course will start in February 2019. See Pastor Brian for more details or questions.

As we enter into the holiday season at my home we have been greeted with a seasonal guest who comes every year after Thanksgiving and stays until Christmas. That guest is Winkie the House Elf. Winkie is our ELF ON THE SHELF. Winkie moves around the house each and every night to different locations keeping an eye on our children during the day and then reporting back to Santa each night. A few years back our Stephen Ministry team found a Care Bear that we have affectionately named Stephen who will also be showing up for the next month or so to remind everyone of our wonderful caring Stephen Ministry. Stephen the Care Bear will be moving around the Church to different locations on a fairly regular basis. I would like to invite everyone to keep an eye out for where Stephen is at whenever you come to Church for the next month or so. Blessings and Peace to you all during this Christmas Season!
