At the age of 12, Nawaal Akram Butt was denied admission in various schools due to her physical ailment but with sheer

determination and willpower she fought against all odds to became a woman who can be inspired by millions of differently abled peo-ple across the world.

Even though the genetic disorder, Duch-enne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), came to her life as a massive blow nothing could have pre-vented her from moving on to success.

It is this sheer confidence that has been pushing her front not only for her wellbeing and also for the wellbeing of the entire society.

The event she hosted recently, named ‘Dis-ability Awareness Gala Dinner’, to raise awareness about people with disabilities and highlight the importance of their contribution in the society, underlines her commitment to the society.

The event took place under the title “my ability is stronger than my disability” at Ala Turkish Cuisine, The-Pearl Qatar.

Nawaal Akram, did not let DMD to conquer her even though her life largely confined to a wheel chair.

Event raises awareness about disability

COVER STORYMONDAY 3 APRIL 2017 03“It was heart-wrenching for my mother to know that I

could not go to school because I could not climb stairs,” said Nawaal.

“Whatever I am today and whatever I am doing today, it is all because of my parents. They home-schooled me and taught me everything I needed,” she said gratefully.

Nawaal, however, has an entirely different approach towards the challenges she faces. She sees her life in an auto-matic wheelchair as an opportunity to see the world from another perspective.

Speakers from GCC along with people who are helping the disabiled community in Qatar, shared their inspirational journey at the event.

Fatma Al Jassim from UAE, who is Sedra’s Ambassador of inclusion, Research and Policy Coordinator- Founder of the first social initiative called The Art of dealing with Peo-ple with Disabilities, said at the event that : “I am trying to be a Change, a change in the community of those who have disability. Today I am very glad to be here because no one will judge me from my disability but from my achievements.”

“There are no limits except the ones you create for your-self,” she added.

Ikrami Ahmad, QSCCB’s activities coordinator and assis-tive technology specialist said at the event: “Blindness is a characteristic, not a handicap. There are several difficulties that we face but we take it as a challenge. I have the abili-ties to do what I am capable of, but without visuals. All we have to do is believe in ourselves.”

Kathleen Bates, Founder, Director and Head Instructor at Freestyle Aquatics told at the event that : “Freestyle Aquat-ics is a unique programme and the first of its kind in Qatar. The programme provides customised swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving lessons, and experiences to people that have a physical disability. The programme is open to any-body in Qatar, ages 4 and above who have a disability.”

“We have been able to continue on and work with about 400 disabled people here in Doha. We have received a one-time additional funding grant from the US Embassy in Qatar. Our programme is small but our impact is huge. Being in the water is liberating and nearly all disabilities can be accom-modated,” she added.

Lateefa khalid from Bahrain, Managing Director at Sahel specialised construction activities said that: “We have recently launched two initiatives for people with disabilities in Bah-rain , special restrooms for them. In order to make them a part of the society we have made ramps at MacDonald’s to make it easy for the people with disabilities to go there and enjoy like normal people. I always believe that if there’s a will there’s a way.”

Ahmed Ali Al-Shahrani said during his speech at event that: “when people look at me on this wheelchair, they only see my misery. I would tell them that this is not causing dis-satisfaction or sadness, it gives me a strength and makes me stronger. As, I know Allah has chosen me for a better reason,He has brought me closer to Him and nothing is better than that.” Mirza Aamer Baig, Event manager told The Peninsula that :

“The event turned out to be a successful one. Nearly 50 peo-ple attended this event with a panel of beautiful and inspirational speakers, especially speakers who managed to arrive from other countries of GCC. I’d thank to Nawaal Akram for making this event possible and special thanks to SabiBeauty and A’la Turkish Cuisine for their support.”

The International Medical Cen-tre has opened its doors in Duhail (opposite the College of

the North Atlantic), near Landmark Mall, West Bay and The-Pearl.

This premium private clinic provides high quality medical care, with two British Family Medicine Consultants (Dr Brenda Strandvik and Dr Stacey Phillpots) and one British Consultant Paediatrician (Dr Renu Angwin) serving the day to day medical needs of the community.

The International Medical Cen-tre is the third opening from the founders, who have already estab-lished The International Physiotherapy Centres in Markhiya and Waab as leading private Physi-otherapy and Chiropractic clinics in Doha. The new clinic has been set up in response to demand from exist-ing Physiotherapy and Chiropractic patients for further high-quality medical services, especially doctors who serve the entire family. The group aims to be the trusted primary healthcare provider for Qataris and expatriates in the community – eth-ical, patient-centred care with

experienced, well trained staff. Founder Sheikh Mohammed H

F Al Thani said: “I have seen too many friends and family travel abroad for quality care, and as a young Qatari I am convinced we need to do more here locally. When a patient comes to one of our clin-ics, I want them to feel the same as going to a clinic in the UK, US, Ger-many or Switzerland - good doctors, quality convenient service, mini-mal waiting times and the right medical advice. Qatar should be able to attract outstanding

clinicians and offer the same excellence.”

Medical Director of The Inter-national Medical Centre, Dr Brenda Strandvik, echoes his com-ments: “I have worked before as a Family Medicine Consultant in the community in England for over 15 years. I was the trusted local doctor in my community for health issues of all types, and for patients of all ages, and I want to provide the same service for

families here. I have been in Qatar for less than a year, and have already seen so many people who don’t know where to go to find a doctor that they can see for a wide variety of medical problems. We, at The International Medical Cen-tre, would really like to make a difference to primary care in Qatar.”

A cutting-edge research con-ducted by a faculty member from Qatar University Col-

lege of Medicine (QU-CMED) in collaboration with researchers from Cardiff University, UK showed that an important sperm protein required for the egg fertilization process is ineffective in individu-als suffering from infertility.

Led by CMED Assistant Profes-sor of Biochemistry Dr Michail Nomikos, the team could start the fertilisation process in the lab by injecting eggs with a higher amount of phospholipase C zeta (PLCZ) pro-tein from the infertile men than found naturally in their sperm. These results suggest that this type of infertility could become revers-ible with medical assistance.

“Our research aims to address and understand the complex

mechanism of how such a small molecule like PLCZ is able to “kick-start” the generation of a new life,” Dr Michail Nomikos said, adding,

“This study discovered that recom-binant PLCZ protein can successfully replace sperm and trig-ger development of the egg, up to the blastocyst embryo stage. This research has given hope to many couples facing problems of male

infertility. We are currently devel-oping the use of recombinant PLCZ protein as a therapeutic agent to treat such cases of male infertility. The research also focuses on the production of PLCZ antibodies, which could be used for potential clinical diagnosis of such cases of male infertility.”

Recent clinical studies have reported on infertile males with normal sperm parameters (mor-phology and motility), however their sperm fails to initiate fertilisation.

Even though their sperm can fuse with the egg, after this event, nothing happens. It was discovered that sperm from these infertile patients lack a proper functioning version of a sperm protein, called PLCZ. Sperm PLC? is essential to trigger the first stage of fertilization

by initiating a process called “egg activation” that trigger early embryo development. This sperm protein, which has been called the

“spark of life” was discovered in 2002 by Chair of Cardiff University Calcium Signaling Laboratory Prof Tony Lai and his team.

The team investigated the effects of this infertility-linked PLCZ mutation in more detail.

They found that injecting the abnormal PLCZ protein into mouse eggs at levels comparable with those found in the sperm of the infertile men resulted in no calcium oscillations and therefore no ferti-lisation. However, if they increased the amounts of the protein they injected to a higher level than would be present naturally, the nor-mal fertilisation process began and calcium oscillations were observed.

Fatima Al Emadi, alumni at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) is a winner of

gold medal at the Education Excel-lence Award, conferred on distinguished Qatari students in dif-ferent fields.

The award patronised by the Emir, aims at encouraging students to gain more knowledge, integrat-ing individual and institutional efforts to improve education out-puts and ensuring that quality education copes with global stand-ards and levels.

“I feel very honoured and hum-bled to receive this award. It is a great honour to meet His Highness the Emir and I believe it is his patronage of the award that distin-guishes it and makes it a prime motivator for Qatari students and researchers to pursue their educa-tion with the highest commitment and dedication. In the brief time I’ve known my fellow awardees, I have been very impressed by their accomplishments and am very humbled to be included with stu-dents of their caliber,” says Fatima.

“I am grateful to the Emir H H

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khaifa Al Thani and H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as none of the experiences I’ve had in both my academic and professional lives would have been possible without their constant support of the coun-try’s people in all aspects of life, chief among them education,” she added. The criteria for the award are quite varied and cover a vari-ety of activities ranging from academic to professional to extra-curricular activities during a student’s time at university.

“In my case these included receiving a student leadership award, conducting independent research in finance, undertaking a role as a course assistant in Finance and Corporate Finance, and run-ning the Finance Club among other extracurricular and professional activities at Carnegie Mellon Uni-versity in Qatar,” said Fatima.

According to Fatima CMU-Q has played a major role in shaping her skills and taken towards the Education Excellence Award.

“CMU-Q is more than a mere

four-year university experience: It is a community that helps its members cultivate all the neces-sary skills they would need post-graduation. My experience at CMU-Q was as much about extra-curriculars and networking as it was about academics. These activ-ities help us acquire the soft skills we need going into the job market. What distinguishes CMU-Q in par-ticular, I believe, is our faculty. They go above and beyond to make sure we can contextualize and apply what we learn in the region and in our respective fields. That, along with all the other educational and professional opportunities at CMU-Q, help prepare a student to apply for the Education Excellence

Award,” she said. During her study period at

CMU-Q Fatima was also involved in research projects and The main she did was about valuation of resource companies.

“I had always been interested in the oil and gas industry in Qatar. I suppose the centrality of it to our economy has heightened my edu-cational and professional interest in the industry and added an ele-ment of invested personal interest to pursue its study.

Having done valuations in Cor-porate Finance, I wondered how we could adapt these methods to resource companies: the charac-teristics associated with them may distort perceived value from a tra-ditional method like Discounted Cash Flow, since energy companies have very high capital expenditures.

Because of this, the study’s aim was to find ways to modify tradi-tional methods of valuation to better suit resource companies, as well as explore valuation methods specif-ically tailored to value these companies,” she said.

FOODMONDAY 3 APRIL 2017 09Ellie Krieger The Washington Post

I typically think of salad with chicken as a workhorse of the healthful culinary world. It reli-

ably gets the job done and can be good, but it is rarely memorable or inspiring. Truthfully, it can be a bor-ing fallback. I suppose I should have had higher expectations when I ordered one at Fume in Napa Val-ley several months ago. The place was recommended by a culinary-pro local friend, and I was in a mecca of good food and wine. Still, I was taken aback by just how com-pelling that salad was and how much it stood out from the same-old, same-old. The thought of it stuck in my mind so long I just had to come up with my own version to share with you.

What makes this salad so spe-cial is its variety of tastes, colors and textures which makes each forkful a bit different, so eating it feels like a constant discovery. There are two kinds of lettuce - tender Bibb and crisp romaine - crunchy nuts coated in a maple glaze, sweet chunks of red apple, cool bites of celery, the snap of blanched green beans and chewy dried cherries. Rather than the usual cubes of grilled breast, there are tender pieces of chicken torn from half a roasted bird. All the ingredients are coated in a lightly creamy, tangy buttermilk dressing seasoned with fresh dill and scallion.

This salad might take a bit more effort than adding cooked poultry to pre-washed greens and calling it a day. But most of the elements can be made ahead and you can use a store-bought rotisserie chicken, so the salad still comes together fairly easy, and you will be rewarded in pure delight.

Green Salad With Chicken, Apple and Maple Walnuts in But-termilk Dressing

4 servingsThis salad boasts such a variety

of tastes, colours and textures that eating it feels like a constant discovery.

MAKE AHEAD: The dress-ing can be refrigerated up to 1 day in advance. Dress the salad just before serving. From nutritionist and cookbook author Ellie Krieger.

IngredientsFor the dressing1/2 cup buttermilk, well shaken

(not low-fat)

3 tablespoons regular or low-fat mayonnaise

1 1/2 teaspoons lemon zest and 2 tablespoons juice (from 1 lemon)

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard1/2 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon freshly ground

black pepper1 scallion, trimmed and thinly

sliced (white and green parts)2 tablespoons coarsely chopped

fresh dill

For the salad1/2 cup walnut pieces1 1/2 tablespoons pure maple

syrupPinch salt4 ounces thin green beans (har-

icots verts), trimmed 1 head Bibb or Boston lettuce, cored and torn into bite-size pieces

1 small head romaine lettuce, cored and torn into bite-size pieces

2 cups torn cooked chicken (from 1/2 medium roasted chicken; 8 ounces total)

2 ribs celery, cut into bite-size pieces

1 small red apple (unpeeled), cut into bite-size pieces

3 tablespoons coarsely chopped dried cherries, preferably unsweetened

StepsWhisk together the buttermilk,

mayonnaise, lemon zest and juice, the mustard, salt and pepper in a medium bowl until well blended, then whisk in the scallion and dill. The yield is 3/4 cup.

Combine the walnuts, maple syrup and salt in a small nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook for 3 or 4 minutes, stirring fre-quently, until the liquid has evaporated and the walnuts are glazed and lightly toasted. Trans-fer to a plate to cool.

Bring a medium pot of water to a boil over high heat. Fill a large bowl with cool water and ice cubes.

Add the green beans to the boil-ing water; cook/blanch them for about 2 minutes, until crisp-tender and bright green, then use a slotted spoon to immediately transfer them to the ice-water bath (to stop their cooking). Once they have cooled, pat them dry and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces.

Just before serving, combine the lettuce, chicken, celery, apple, dried cherries, walnuts and green beans in a large bowl. Drizzle with the dressing and toss gently to coat.

Pile on nutrition on your childs plate and make it look yummy yet healthy, say

experts. Sujetha Shetty, nutrition-ist and diet expert at online fitness platform Gympik, and Gulneer Puri, dietician at tele-medicine platform Doctor Insta, suggest how:

* Grains: Choose whole grains such as whole-wheat bread, oat-meal, quinoa or brown bread. Whole grains are good sources of Vitamin B and fibre which fill your child’s tummy and help improving digestion.

* Protein: Proteins are the build-ing blocks which are important for maintaining and repairing tissues, making haemoglobin, improving immunity, and helping muscles grow. The sources of protein include seafood, eggs, lean meat and poultry, legumes, peas, beans, soy products, unsalted nuts and seeds.

* Fruits: Including fruits and veg-etables in your child’s diet is one of the major difficulties you might have already faced. Encourage your child to eat a variety of fresh fruits. Let fruit juice be the last option as the juice takes out the fibre that comes from the whole fruit. Also, fruit juices come with loads of added sugar that only contribute to empty calories sans nutrition. If your child drinks juice, make sure you make it at home without add-ing sugar.

* Vegetables: Serve a variety of fresh, colourful, seasonally and locally available vegetables. Aim to provide a variety of vegetables, including dark green, red and orange, beans and peas, starchy and others every week. It’s difficult to convince children to binge on veg-etables as they require a lot of munching and they lack tongue tin-gling taste.

* Dairy: Include low-fat dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese or fortified soy beverages in your child’s diet. Try some innova-tive ideas and recipes to incorporate dairy in their diet as these are some

of rich sources of calcium which is essential for better bone health.

# Try to avoid the components listed below from your child’s diet:

* Added sugar: Help your chil-dren get habituated to natural foods and beverages. Limit their con-sumption of processed foods, chocolates, bars, breakfast cereals and candies that contain corn syrup, brown sugar, corn sweetener and caramel.

* Saturated and trans fats: These are the unhealthy fats that come from foods such as full-fat dairy products, red meat and poultry. Try replacing saturated fats with

Vitamin E and essential fatty acids that are found in vegetable and nut oils, sea foods etc. Healthier fats can also be found in nuts, olives and avocados. Avoid the consumption of trans fats by removing foods con-taining partially hydrogenated oil.

Summer is the time when chil-dren go out in the scorching heat to play. Make sure that children don’t skip their meals in between fun and feel hydrated.

In order to prevent that, con-centrate on giving those certain foods which have a cooling effect on the stomach like watermelon, curd, mint and Gulkand.

How to offer healthy diet to children

A shift-based job or frequent travelling that causes jet lag poses continuous restriction on good sleep as well as dis-

ruptions in the internal body clock, and might be an unrecognised factor for bone loss in young men, researchers say.

The finding showed that young men with sleep restriction and circadian disruption had 27 per cent greater reduction in level of P1NP

-- a marker of bone formation in blood -- com-pared to 18 per cent in older men. Circadian disruption was defined as “a mismatch between

internal body clock and the environment caused by living on a shorter or longer day than 24 hours.” On the other hand, the levels of the bone resorption marker -- CTX -- remained unchanged, an indication that old bone could break down without new bone being formed.

“This altered bone balance creates a potential bone loss window that could lead to osteoporo-sis -- a condition in which bones become weak and brittle and causes fractures,” said lead investigator Christine Swanson, Assistant Pro-fessor at the University of Colorado in Aurora,

US. “The data suggest that sleep disruption may be most detrimental to bone metabolism ear-lier in life, when bone growth and accrual are crucial for long-term skeletal health,” she added. For the study, presented at the Endo-crine Society’s 99th annual meeting in Orlando, the team evaluated health consequences of sleep restriction combined with circadian dis-ruption. Participants stayed in a lab, where for three weeks they went to sleep each day four hours later than the prior day, resulting in a 28-hour “day”.

The censor board has recom-mended six cuts in the Bengali film “Shunyota” (Emptiness),

that deals with the plight of people post-demonetisation, for a U/A cer-tificate, the filmmaker said here on Saturday. He added he will accept them.

In a letter to the movie director Suvendu Ghosh, the Kolkata regional office of the Central Board of Film Certification has asked him

to communicate within 15 days his “acceptance or otherwise” of he rec-ommended cuts. The missive said, the cuts were decided as per the directives of the CBFC chairperson and recommendations of the exam-ination committee.

“.. This is to inform you that that as per the directives of the chair-person, CBFC, as well as the recommendation of the Examina-tion Committee, your film has been passed for issue of certificate under

‘U/A category with the cuts.”

The recommended cuts included deletion of two sequences and muting of four sentences/parts of sentences/words with beeps. One of the recommended deletions was a ten-second sequence that talks of

“a large number of unacceptable death processions in the country r e v o l v i n g a r o u n d demonetisation”.

Ghosh was also asked to mute a part of a sentence with a beep that says “the government has commit-ted the wrong, and while the big fish

will survive, the small fish will be trapped”. “If I accept the four mutes and two deletions, the film will be passed,” said Ghosh, adding: “I will go by the recommendations.”

Earlier, the Kolkata Regional Office of the SBFC had referred the film to the board’s Chairman Pahlaj Nihalni for a decision on certifica-tion citing “differences of opinion among members of the (examin-ing) committee”.

Ghosh has claimed his film was the first on demonetisation.

“MERCY” -- featuring Lauren Gottlieb.

Singer-songwriter Bob Dylan finally received his Nobel Prize in literature

at a private ceremony in Stock-holm, according to a statement posted online by the head of the Swedish Academy.

The presentation on Satur-day came five months after the academy announced Dylan, 75, was the winner and more than three months after the formal award ceremony, which Dylan didn’t attend because of “pre-existing commitments”, CNN reported. But Dylan was in Stockholm this weekend to

perform concerts and the pri-vate ceremony was arranged. However, it was not not known what Dylan had to say about the award. Swedish media reported no cameras were present at the ceremony.

There were no comments made to the media by Dylan, or any member of the academy, either before or after the event.

Upon the announcement of Dylan’s award in October, the academy’s permanent sec-retary, Sara Danius, said Dylan

“is a great poet in the English-speaking tradition”, drawing parallels between his work and that of ancient Greek poets.

Saturday, she issued the following statement on Dylan’s receipt of the award, reports CNN. “Earlier today (Saturday) the Swedish Academy met with Bob Dylan for a private cere-mony in Stockholm, during which Dylan received his gold medal and diploma. Twelve members of the Academy were present. Spirits were high. Champagne was had.”

Dylan -- the first song-writer to win a Nobel Prize

-- was acknowledged by the Swedish Academy “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

Former supermodel Tyra Banks, also the host of “Amer-icas Next Top Model”, has

announced that she is doing away with an age limit for the show.

Banks made the announcement via a video posted online yester-day, reports variety.com.

She said: “There have been 23 cycles of ‘America’s Next Top Model’, and every single cycle we say you have to be 27 years old or younger.”

“You know what I hear all the time? ‘Tyra, come on. Why have an age limit?’ So, you know what? I’m

taking that age limit off.” “You want to audition for ‘America’s Next Top Model’? I don’t care how old you are, honey. You just need to know how to smize and be open to learn-ing how to work the runway like a supermodel,” she said.

Banks launched “America’s Next Top Model” in 2003, but passed hosting duties for the 23rd cycle, the first to air on VH1, to singer Rita Ora. In March, Banks announced she would take back the role she originated in addition to hosting “America’s Got Talent” on NBC.

Actress Billie Lourd remembered her late grandmother and

actress Debbie Reynolds on her 85th birth anniversary. Born on April 1, Reynolds passed away on December 28, 2016, one day after the death of her daughter and Lourd’s mother Carrie Fisher. Lourd took to Instagram to share a photo-graph of Reynolds and Fisher.

“Happy 85th to my constantly classily clad Abadaba,” Lourd captioned the image. Lourd first broke silence on the death of her mother and grand-mother in January earlier this year. “Receiving all of your prayers and kind words over the past week has given me strength during a time I thought strength could not exist,” she wrote.

A mysterious flash of X-rays probably resulting from a

“completely new type of cat-aclysmic event” in space has been discovered by Nasa’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, a study says.

While the scientists believe the flash of X-rays, which stemmed from a faint, small galaxy about 10.7 billion light years from Earth, likely comes from some sort of destruc-tive event, they are not sure what caused it.

“We may have observed a com-pletely new type of cataclysmic event,” said study co-author Kevin Schawinski, of ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich) in Switzerland.

“Whatever it is, a lot more observations are needed to work out what we’re seeing,” Schawin-ski added. The X-ray source, located in a region of the sky known as the Chandra Deep Field-South (CDF-S), has remarkable properties.

Prior to October 2014, this source was not detected in X-rays, but then it erupted and became at least a factor of 1,000 brighter in a

few hours. After about a day, the source had faded completely below the sensitivity of Chandra.

Thousands of hours of legacy data from the Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes helped determine that the event likely came from a faint, small galaxy about 10.7 bil-lion light years from Earth.

For a few minutes, the X-ray source produced a thousand times more energy than all the stars in this galaxy, said the study published online in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical

Society. “Ever since discovering this source, we’ve been struggling to understand its origin,” said Franz Bauer of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago.

There are three main possibil-ities to explain the X-ray source, according to scientists.

Two of them invoke gamma-ray burst (GRB) events which are jetted explosions triggered either by the collapse of a massive star or by the merger of a neutron star with another neutron star or a black hole.

Few days after Face-b o o k g o t a Snapchat-like “Stories”

update that lets users add effects to their photos and videos, Snap Inc has intro-duced a “Search” option that would give users power to search through the content they posted on its app.

Snapchat will enable users to search for photos and videos known as “Snaps” posted to the “Our Story” option on the app, by creating new “Stories” using machine learning technology, the com-pany said in a blog post.

For instance, users can use the search feature to find

“Snaps” related to events such as local basketball games and topics such as puppies. The search feature is an addi-tion to curated “Stories,” where public “Snaps” about major events like Wimble-don or the Coachella music festival already appear.

Grass could power your future flightIANS

Researchers have developed a process to turn grass into biofuel that could one day be used to power aircraft.

“Until now, grass has mainly served as feed for animals. But apart from that, grass can also be used as biofuel. Due to its vast abundance, grass is the perfect source of energy,” said scientist Way Cern Khor from Ghent University in Belgium. Khor investi-gated methods that can disintegrate and treat grass until it can be used as a fuel.

To improve its biodegradability, the grass was pretreated at first and then bac-teria were added. They convert the sugars

in the grass into lactic acid and its derivatives.

This lactic acid can serve as an interme-diate chemical to produce other compounds such as biodegradable plastics (PLA) or fuels.

The lactic acid then was converted into caproic acid, which was further converted into decane which can be used in aviation fuel. Although it might sound revolutionary, the scientists cautioned that there is still a lot to do before this becomes reality.

Right now the amount of biofuel that can be made from grass is still limited to a few drops. The current process is very expen-sive, and engines should be adapted to this new kind of fuel.

“If we can keep working on optimising this process in cooperation with the business world, we can come down on the price. And maybe in a few years we can all fly on grass!,” Khor said in a statement released by Ghent University.
