It is with pleasure that I welcome Bessy P [Group 1] and her family to our school community. In addition I wish to welcome Ainslie Byass [Group 9] to our school. Ainslie commenced 2 weeks ago as an Education Support Staff member in the Primary section. At the end of last term all schools received advice from the Department of Education and Training outlining the new legislation which has been enacted from 13 April 2015. Smoking has been banned within 4 metres of an entrance to schools within Victoria, and within the school grounds. [Victorian childcare centres and kindergartens have a similar ban.] All schools must install ‘no smoking’ signs at all entrances to the school grounds. This smoking ban applies to anyone present on school premises during and after school hours including staff, contractors, parents/guardians and the wider community. Monash SDS has complied with the new legislation and ‘no smoking’ signs have been erected on both entrances plus we are enforcing the smoking restrictions for all staff and visitors to the school. Last week a number of parents of the students who are turning 18 years in 2015, and hence exiting the school at the end of the year, took the opportunity to tour a range of adult facilities, in order to be more familiar with the future opportunities for their young adults. I would like to thank Sandra Battisti and Lois Mitchell for coordinating this important tour and providing the transport for many of the participating families. Finally 4 students [Joel, Nick, Nathan and Shaun] from the Senior and Pathways sections of the school, have joined 2 staff [James Mooney and Ben Firth] to participate in the inaugural Cheviot Bike Ride from 27 April to 1 May. The participants on this 5 day bike camp are based in Yea at the caravan park and are riding on the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Many thanks to James and Ben for facilitating this wonderful experience for the boys. I am sure all participants will be very grateful that the weather has been improving over the week.

A big thank you to all those families who have either paid their fees in full or are paying via the instalment method. We still have many families whose fees remain outstanding. We appreciate that some families may experience financial difficulties in meeting this commitment; if you wish to discuss a different payment arrangement please contact Deb Crawley on 9239-7431.
Please remember to label your child’s clothing appropriately so they can be identified and returned when they are mislaid.
