GRADE REPORTS

Grade Prep A: We have been doing lots of testing and assessing this week in preparation for report writing. It has been wonderful to track how much progress each Prep has made. They have achieved so much and are soaking up their learning like little sponges. So keep hearing your child read each night, revise the sounds and do lots of counting because we get better with practice, practice, practice. The Preps have been learning about teen numbers, ordinal number and oral addition stories. We saw how money was made in the Royal Australian Mint and explored the features of Australian coins by crayon rubbing. We tore very small pieces of tissue paper to mosaic our seahorses and then pasted them onto a crayon resist background. These are displayed on our classroom window and like all their Art work, they are awesome. Enjoy your extra long weekend.

Grade 1B & 2C: Grade 1 & 2 have been enjoying Seahorse’s Wild Ride by Steve Parish this week. Our comprehension focus has been retelling fiction books using the 5 finger retell method. This is a great strategy that our students can practice at home with their nightly reading too. We have been learning how to order words alphabetically and we are becoming very good with using our Kung Fu punctuation skills to add missing punctuation to writing samples. Our non-fiction sea creature texts are almost finished and we are looking forward to sharing these with our classmates. All our students have done a fantastic job with their researching, planning and publishing skills. In Maths, we are continuing with daily practice of place value, skip counting and extending our strategies and ability to add and subtract numbers. Remember that Monday 30th May is a report writing day for teachers, so we hope that you all enjoy the extra-long

weekend. See you next week, the Fabulous First Graders and Terrific Twos.

Grade 3D & 4E: What a week for Grade 3 and 4. In Reading this week, we brought

our focus back to ‘Writers Purpose’ in differing text types and also tried to model our

‘audience awareness’ topic around each purpose. We focused on separating what text

types tried to entertain, inform or persuade us and identify similar factors between the

texts. In writing the students in both grades have been continuing to work on their own

‘Dreamtime stories’ and it is pleasing to see some of the excellent ideas and creations

coming out of their writing. In Maths we have moved on to symmetry and have been

exploring ways in which we can see/make symmetry using ICT and other methods. We

also began to notice and discuss the types of symmetry that we could see within the

classroom. With Mr. Cole sidelined for the first two days of the week, Mrs Mathers and

Mr. Jones filled the void and cannot be thanked enough for their work during those

days. Well done Grade 3 and 4, another excellent week down!

Grade 5F & 6G: Wow, week 7 already, what an enjoyable week it has been. In Literacy, stu-

dents have continued learning about debating. On Tuesday, we had a Grade 5 vs Grade 6

class debate. We had magnificent arguments from all teams. Students spoke in a clear and

confident manner and always kept the audience engaged. Mr Taberner and Mrs Irving had

many tough decisions to make. In Maths, students have been learning about statistics, prob-

ability and angles and have enjoyed the range of hands on activities. Students continue to

work hard on their Erosion, Corrosion and Explosion unit. We have students conducting role

plays, constructing posters, completing newspaper reports and much more. We wish all stu-

dents participating in the Interschool sports the best of luck today.
