WITH HUMILITY AND GRATITUDEMy dear Brothers and Sisters,Jai MohyalIt is with a deep sense of humility and gratitudethat I wish to convey my sincere thanks tothe GMS Management Committee for askingme to be 'first among the equals', to serveour community. On my part, I assure you allthat I will do the best I can, to promote thewelfare and well being of every member and, above all, strengthen and enhance 'unity andtogetherness' within our community, to themaximum extent. I would further add that, Ican justly lay claim to having had a fairly earlyexposure, functionally, with our community, having attended a local 'sabhameeting' as early as in 1946 at Lahore, at the age of 10 years. Thereafter, after spending over 41 years in the Army from 1953 to 1994, I have beenin nearly continuous touch with the community, from 1995 onwards tillnow, initially through Mohyal Sabha Noida as its President and, then, aspart of the GMS from 2015 onwards.Today, we can say, with justifiable pride, that our community ownsnoteworthy physical assets, such as the Mohyal Ashrams at Haridwar,Vrindavan and Inderpuri, numerous Mohyal Bhawans at local sabhas andconsiderable monetary assets, all thanks to our visionary leader, the lateRzd B D Bali. But, much more than all that, it is our good fortune thatwithin our community, we have many talented, dedicated and committedpeople who voluntarily and readily offer and provide free services at theGMS and at local sabhas, alongwith making generous donations to supportthe needy within the Community as also for the expansion and functioningof the existing facilities. At this juncture, as a 'way forward' for our Community, I would like to identifythe following aspects which would need and deserve our focus andundiluted attention:- Further refine, the functioning of our institutions, so as to make them

more effective and efficient. Endeavour to complete and close the Yamuna Nagar project at the

earliest possible, as also take in hand the planning and construction ofthe expansion of Haridwar Ashram. For both these tasks, we wouldneed more finances, for which I appeal to the Community to comeforward with generous contributions, as you have been doing in thepast.

Finally, let us all, together, with our combined effort, do the best we can,for our community.I close by sending my warm greetings, good wishes and 'Jai Mohyal' to allmembers of our Community and their families.

Yours affectionately,

Lt Gen G L Bakshi, PVSM (Retd)President

Random ThoughtsLord Krishna clarifies that the Body and the Soul are totally different from each other. The Body is transitory andperishable, while the Soul is eternal and imperishable. Therefore we should not feel sad at the destruction of theperishable. When we can discriminate the Self from the Body, the desire for salvation is aroused. Whenever weresolve to attain God Realisation, our attachment and attraction to the world begins to disappear. Attachment topleasures and prosperity are the main obstacle to the attainment of salvation. Human beings have the quality todiscriminate between good and bad, which when practiced regularly by our actions, can release us from the bondageof birth and death. Lust, wrath and greed are the gates to Hell and must therefore be renounced We must learn to actwithout attachment, keeping in mind the welfare of the underprivileged.Gita, the utterings of the Lord, is so wonderful and unique that a reader will find support to his principles and doctrines, whatever school of faith he belongs to. It is like a mirror which reflects a true picture of ones mental disposition. TheBhagavad Gita is an indispensable sacred book which is a true guide for all human beings. Bhagavad Gita means,The Song of the Blessed One. It teaches us, How should we live. Renunciation of the fruits of action, is the centeraround which the Gita is woven. The Gita presents some of the most important truths of human existence and itspurpose is to transform our life into a beautiful existence. The real way to come out of this material world, which is theplace of suffering, is by developing Bhakti. (Pramila Vaid, Gurgaon)

Become Life Members of GMS by paying Rs 3100/- Mohyal Mitter / OCTOBER 2019 13

remembering and paying tribute to out founder membersof our sabha i.e South Zone Mohyal Sabha.

September is the month earmarked for remembering daythis idea was coined under the chairmanship of late GroupCaption Mehta  ji and Shri MM Mehta  ji .Two memoriallectures in two consecutive years were organised whereMohyals in good numbers attended the lecture. We wishwe could organise such lectures but due constraint of fundscould not do so. Hence late Gp Capt. DC Mehta ji offeredto hold meeting in month of September in honour of ourfounder members and elders who are not more with us athis place every year. Sadly years back, nature snatchedhim from us. Smt Kamlesh Mehta his wife graciouslyannounced to hold Remembrance Day meeting at herplace. Thanks a lot Mrs Mehta

It would be unfair if I don’t share with the contributions andteaching of our founder members. They showed us thelight and path that’s why we are here.

South Zone Mohyal Sabha was initiated by late Sh.B.D.Dutta jee and Smt Savitri Dutta jee and family. Anoutstanding couple whose services to the communityare so well known. Their sincerity, kindness, understanding and guidance set us in the right course.

I gratefully thank late Wg. Cdr. TR Dewan for startingthe sabha almost three decades now. A forceful manwho could speak his mind honestly.

The other great staunch Mohyal who gave so much tobring us to this state that we are and whose contributionto the sabha and community are great is late Sh. BrijMohan jee a selfless General Secretary whometiculously kept records of our sabha and kept it goingfor a long time. His personal touch was felt in all hisactions sending hand written post cards to all membersevery month for greeting.

Late Sh K.N.Chibber jee was truly an encyclopaedia ofMohyal community and there was no occasion he couldnot recall any family from grandfather or even earlier. All our meetings concluded with his poetry recitals. Atruly great elder and so young at heart.

Late Major VP Dutta was another young at heart elderhad good collection of urdu poetry and very fond ofcricket. A big hearted donor to sabha who had sentdonation even while on death bed. He was practisinghomeopathic working till the last day.

Late Sh. PL Mehta jee was loved by all with his selflesssincerity and devotion to sabha. Even as he was livingin Fardidabad and had difficulty in commuting he wouldnever miss any meeting.

Late Prof J.S. Bali fatherly figure of outstandingcredentials a very articulate person who couldcommunicate at all levels initiator of very meaningfuldebates. He kept us absorbed with his down to earthanecdotes of wisdom touching our heart and showingus our roots to be pound of. A thinker, writer who wrote

on diverse subjects both prose and poetry, scientist withmany national and international awards. We gained alot from him and are grateful for this.

Late Gp. Capt. DC Mehta has given our sabha unusualprestige before the time he had been at the helm ofaffairs. There is so much to talk but it would require hismatching skills in writing, oratory, observation, management and most of all his sincerity and being sosilently effective personality. Under his presidencyenlightened discussion to elect all ladies executivecommittee was taken. He believed in generationalchange.

We all today pay our respect and salute our elders forshowing us the right path to follow and we assure that thelight shown we will keep the name and fame of South ZoneMohyal Sabha very high.

After the memorial lecture, Tambola game was organisedin which all the member participated with full enthusiasmand excitements. Our guest in the meeting friends of MrsMehta namely Kusum Batra, R Gulati and Rita Tondonwere very much interactive and enjoyed the meeting withcuriosity. Mrs Tara Datta was the new member to theSabha.
