WHY 5 ‘S’ in WFP?1. Workshop is a large one and capable of handling up to 200+ vehicles

per month2. 30% space is occupied by scrap parts lying around at various places3. Used oil is spilled around and is a safety hazard4. There is no scrap management plan.5. This work shop can not attract the Other UN agencies to bring their

vehicles for repairs. We have to be competitive in terms of quality, workmanship and efficiency in repairs and also the appearance of workshop

6. The work shop walls need painting and signboards to be put up for allocating bays, like major repairs, inspection and service, customer reception, Heavy vehicles repairs, Body shop, Electrical repairs.

7. Various equipment, jacks and tools need to put in their fixed places.8. To improve workflow for better productivity and efficiency.

This is always the first step before staring the 5-S Program.

• Photographs of all Bays, Work Stations, spare parts stores, uncomfortable areas, eye sore objects to be taken.

• These before photos to be kept as a record and compared with the ‘After photos’, after the implementation of 5-S is over.

• This will help us in Evaluating the impact of our actions.

5S is basically a VISUAL MANAGEMENT

PROJECT-CAR WASH AND INSPECTION RAMPAs a part of scrap management Plan, The WFP Logistics Works shop Team started Building a car washing cum inspection ramp from June 2014• The ramp has been erected and now ready for taking on

washing jobs.• The Purpose is to wash the vehicles thoroughly from under

carriage to Engine compartment and externally, before carrying out any service.

• This will improve the quality of repairs and efficiency in work.

In view of our proposed invitation to other agencies to bring their cars for repairs in WFP Workshop, it would prove to be a boon, since oil changes and even removal of gear boxes is also possible on this Ramp.
