§ What real‐life situaons require us to use area?
ú Floor covering, like carpets and les, require area measurements. Wallpaper and paint also call for area measurements. Fabric used for clothing and other items also demands that length and width be considered. Wrapping a present, installing turf on a football field, or laying bricks, pavers, or concrete for a deck or pao are other real‐world examples.
§ Somemes measurements are given in inches and area is calculated in square feet. How many square inches are in a square foot?
