Profession Growth Evidence

Although I do not have screenshots from the inception of my Personal Learning Network I can tell you that I had 0(zero) followers and was also following 0(zero) people. As is evident above, I now have 25 followers and am following 53 people/organizations. As for how I gained those followers, this has come from a mixture of following people and them following me back and also my participation in an Edcamp on November 2, 2013 which I will further discuss in the following slides.

• This slide and the next show the connections that I made with the folks I met at the YEG Edcamp.

• Each of these connections is beneficial for me since some are second or third year teachers.

• Others, are admin or experienced teachers that I met.

• A few of these individuals have links to their blogs providing great resources and examples for me.

• Further, these teachers are connections that I have made face-to-face first. A personal connection has already been developed and can be further developed with the continued use of my PLN.

@edutopia

• Edutopia is an American based organization.

• Although this is the case, the ideas presented that have to do with education are very valuable.

• Edutopia is an excellent organization for me to follow because it provides links to tips and ideas that will be very beneficial for me moving forward.

• Also the fact that they are an American based organization gives me an alternate perspective that I would not normally have.

@AngelaMaiers

• Angela Maiers is also from the United States.

• She is an educator and speaker who is passionate about literacy, learning and the power of social media.

• Her website, which she has provided a link to, provides inspirational resources along with her blog and many other resources.• Angela Maiers is beneficial to me as I move forward as an educator

because she is so passionate. The inspiration I could potentially gain from her is endless. She also has her contact info so if I wanted to, I could connect with her regarding inspiration ideas for my students.

@SmithTheTeacher

• Andrew Smith is an Alberta high school English teacher.

• His Twitter is full of his own but professional tweets along with tweets to his English class.

• This seems very effective and is something I would like to incorporate.

• Andrew Smith is beneficial to me because I can take examples of how he has efficiently used twitter to communicate with his students and switch it up for my own.

• He is also an English teacher, teaching in Alberta, which I plan to be.

PLN Participation

Initially I was very excited to take part in conversations and discussions and to really learn things from knowledgeable folks on Twitter.

As school has gotten increasingly busier I have unfortunately not had the time to pay as much attention to my Twitter as I would have liked.

Moving forward, I will be taking part in discussions and potentially creating discussion topics, asking questions in order to gain the most that I can from my PLN.
