The French capital really needs no introduction. Its renowned attractions – the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysées, Sacré Coeur – are amongst the world’s best loved and most photographed, while her museums – the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Picasso – are amongst the most visited and most cherished. The city’s grand boulevards and the narrower streets of the lesser-known quartiers reveal a new delight at every step.

When it comes to exploring the city, consider starting at Paris’ historic island heart, the Ile de la Cité, where the exquisite church of Saint-Chapelle and the ancient prison, the Conciergerie, are all that remain of a once great palace. Here you will also find the fabled Notre Dame Cathedral, one of Europe’s finest gothic masterpieces. From there you can head in any direction and discover Paris’ spectacular sights – the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Sacré Coeur and the Louvre, to name a few!

In addition to these renowned sights of the French capital, other recommended visits include Tour Montparnasse, where from its 56th floor you can enjoy a spectacular 360° panoramic view over Paris, or take a boat trip along the River Seine. The hour long cruise provides a popular but also relaxing way to experience some of the City of Light’s prestigious monuments and grand buildings from a unique vantage point either by day or night, and with a departure point

from the Eiffel Tower you can also take in this iconic landmark.

You may like to head out of the city and visit Giverny or Versailles. Claude Monet was passionate about gardening and designed his flower garden and water garden at Giverny as genuine works of art. His former home is now a museum where reproductions of his paintings are displayed. The residence of the kings of France from Louis XIV to Louis XVI, Chateau de Versailles, houses the Royal Apartments, including the Hall of Mirrors and bedchambers of the King and Queen.

Travelling in December? There is a wide choice of Christmas markets in Paris which is an excellent opportunity for students to practise their language skills.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

Bateaux Mouches Seine River CruiseEnjoy the very best views from the River Seine. Lasting for an hour, with English or French language commentary, this is a popular way to experience some of the City of Light's prestigious monuments and grand buildings from a unique vantage point. A route map for each member of the group is included.

The Paris ApprenticeA MFL challenge for French language students combined with an engaging experience among some of the most iconic sights and monuments in the French capital. Running from Notre Dame via the Louvre, the Jardin des Tuileries and the Petit Palais en routeto the Eiffel Tower, the challenge is enjoyed in teams who undertake a series of ten challenges, each in its own ‘zone’ along the route. Based on the format of the Apprentice TV programme, the target language material uses each location to engage and hold student interest from KS2 through to KS4, with a KS5 option focussing totally on target language task cards. A standard sightseeing expedition turns into a three-dimensional, linguistic, cultural multi-faceted experience which can be done as a single event or divided to fit around an itinerary over a day or more.

Montmartre & Sacré CœurAn officially designated historic district, Montmartre is one of the most colourful neighbourhoods in Paris, so it's no surprise that this area is a favourite with visitors to the city. It became famous in late 1800s with the arrival of artists such as Renoir, Van Gogh and Picasso. Topped by the Scare Coeur, Montmartre is the highest hill in Paris at 130 metres, providing great free views over Paris.

France’s Opal Coast region provides the ideal way to introduce students to French life, culture and language. Within just an hour’s travel from Calais it is possible to enjoy a wide range of visits and activities. You can therefore make a worthwhile tour in just a day or, of course, stay away for one or two nights and take in all the region has to offer.

French Language in the Opal Coast

We base our tours around the lively and cosmopolitan city of Lille, which is ideally located for exploring the region’s main sites.

What better way to re-enforce what students have been taught in the classroom than by visiting the country in which the language is spoken. Everyday, practical situations offer the opportunity to practise speaking the language through conversing with native speakers which, in turn helps to improve a students’ confidence and develops their language skills. Immersing your students in the culture contributes towards their learning objectives and combined with visiting attractions and free time in a new environment with their fellow classmates, makes for a valuable and memorable experience.

In recent years, Lille’s elegant centre has been transformed and designer boutiques now line the streets of the medieval centre. Numerous restaurants and cafés will be vying with each other for your custom - the cuisine a tempting mix of traditional French and Belgian specialities, particularly moules et frites, for which Lille is renowned. The Town Hall Belfry provides the ideal vantage point for admiring the city from above. Don’t miss the old Stock Exchange building - the Vielle Bourse - a reflection of the city’s historical commercial importance.

You may also want to visit Palais des Beaux Arts - France’s second largest museum after the Louvre - that has works by Goya and Rubens, as well as the city’s most striking monument, Louis XV’s triumphal arch, Porte de Paris.

The Opal Coast is also a region that fully embraces the Christmas spirit and from late November, the region’s Christmas Markets welcome and delight both local and international visitors. An excellent opportunity for students to practise their language skills.

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to the Opal Coast your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities, excursions and dining options. Full details of everything you might wish to see and do are available

in our Opal Coast ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide. As well as the region’s most renowned sights and museums, it details specific visits that will appeal to student groups, such as Memorial du Souvenir in Dunkirk, which is the museum dedicated to the Battle of Dunkirk, Nausicaa Sealife Centre, whose vast aquariums and terrariums give visitors a unique insight into the riches of the sea, and even, L’Escargotiere du Choquel, which raises grey large snails and offers visitors the opportunity to discover the art and science behind snail farming!

Your Programme Manager can also pre-book meals for your group at a range of restaurants throughout the Opal Coast, providing you with their recommendations to suit your itinerary, budget and dietary requirements. Whatever your plans you can rest assured that your Study Experiences Programme Manager will be able to arrange them for you.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

Nausicaa Sealife Centre - BoulogneNausicaa brings the ocean to life through its thematic exhibitions, presentations by animal carers, films and workshops. The large aquariums and terrariums, together with the centre's multimedia resource centre, give students a unique insight into the marine environment, the threats facing it, and most importantly why it should be protected. Educational tools provided by Nausicaa are available to help plan your visit.

Boulangerie “Le Fournil” Ideal for school groups this traditional, family-owned bakery located in Wierre-Effroy demonstrates baking in the old and new parts of the bakery. Each student will learn how to make a croissant and bread.

L'Escargotière du ChoquelThis 'hélicicolé' farm in St-Martin-Choquel raises grey large snails and offers visitors the opportunity to discover the art and science behind snail farming. Your tour includes a tasting!

La Chocolaterie de Beussent LachelleEnjoy a guided chocolate factory visit lasting just under an hour, covering different chocolate making techniques, as well as providing a history of chocolate cultivation and production. Tours end with a tasting and the chance to buy chocolates.

La Coupole – nr Saint- OmerThis former V2 rocket site houses a fascinating exhibition that highlights how the course of history could have been altered had the Nazi's plans been successful. A new 3D Planetarium offering an unforgettable journey into space.

French Language in Normandy

Normandy is a land created by history, from William the Conqueror to World War II, whose unspoilt coast and countryside have universal appeal. The abundance of cultural and historical places to visit in the region can help support the specific requirements of any school group. Immersing your students in the culture contributes towards their learning objectives and combined with visiting attractions and free time in a new environment with their fellow classmates, makes for a valuable and memorable experience.

What better way to re-enforce what students have been taught in the classroom than by visiting the country in which the language is spoken. Everyday, practical situations such as visiting and purchasing items from a local market or shop offer the opportunity to practise speaking the language through conversing with native speakers, helping to re-enforce what students have been taught in the classroom. Visiting a local producer of bread or cheese and being instructed in French on how they are made can improve a student’s understanding of the French language and help them to develop their own language skills.

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to Normandy your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities and excursions. Full details of everything you might wish to see and do are available in our Normandy ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide.

As well as the region’s most renowned sights and museums, it details specific visits that will appeal to student groups. The region is home to historical events; William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionheart, Philip II of France and Joan of Arc were major figures in Medieval Normandy. The D-Day beaches are evocative locations, often appearing in film and television dramatisations and many are still host to remnants of the battles, such as the Mulberry Harbour and German fortifications. There are memorials and cemeteries for both Allied and German soldiers across Normandy to re-enforce the events in WWII history.

From Mont Saint Michel to Giverny, Etretat to Caen, Deauville to Rouen, Eu to Cherbourg, Normandy has a treasure trove of history and heritage for your students to experience and explore. There is a wealth of educational and cultural places to visit and activities for them to take part in.

A sample from our wide range:

Bread & Cheese-making At a local bakery your group can actively take part in the bread-making process and gain an understanding of the different stages of production. At a goat farm they will learn about the speciality cheeses of France, be shown how cheese is made and have the opportunity to taste. Either can be explained in French or English.

The Bayeux TapestryThe Bayeux Tapestry, a unique document, produced during the 11th century, is a wool embroidery on linen fabric around 70m long and 50cm high. It tells the story, in pictures, of William the Conqueror and the Norman invasion of England in 1066.

Le Mont Saint MichelBuilt between the 11th and 16th centuries, Le Mont Saint Michel is a remarkable mediaeval walled city, crowned by its great gothic-style Benedictine abbey, and counts among France’s most stunning sights.

Le Mémorial de Caen MuseumThis memorial and the museum is dedicated to 20th century history and houses three permanent exhibitions from the origins of World War II and the D-Day Landings to the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

La Cité de la MerDedicated to human adventure under the sea, the interactive exhibitions at this venue include Le Redoutable, the largest submarine open to the public, “Titanic Back to Cherbourg” a museum experience dedicated to the Titanic and the history of migration, and the seabed in the Abyss Aquarium, one of 17 themed tanks.

German Language in the Black Forest

The Black Forest offers a variety of educational and cultural visits, many of which embrace the great outdoors and for some of those living in the region traditional economic activities are still an important part of daily life.

Taking part in an activity which can be instructed in German can improve a student’s understanding of the German language and help them to develop their own language skills.

The city of Freiburg sits on the edge of the Black Forest and is Germany’s southern most and sunniest city boasting one of the country’s prettiest old quarters, with its characteristic bächle – the narrow channels of water that run alongside the pavements. Add to that a wealth of culture and history, scenic surroundings and a laidback

atmosphere; it is an ideal city for students to experience German life, culture and the language. A stroll through the old quarter overlooked by the 500 year old 116-metre-tall spire of the stunning minster is one of Germany's most beautiful religious buildings. The square on which it stands is the largest in the city centre, and hosts a bustling market every day except Sunday. After discovering the city on the ground, take Germany’s longest loop cable car up to a height of 1,284m. A comfortable and environmentally friendly way of ascending Freiburg’s landmark Schauinsland mountain and to enjoy the fantastic panoramic view of Freiburg and the Rhine Valley right up to the blue band of the Vosges.

Triberg is home to Germany’s highest waterfall and Eble Uhren-Park, which displays and sells a wide variety of clocks in a colourful themed environment and boasts the world’s biggest cuckoo clock!

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to the Black Forest your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities and excursions. Full details of everything you might wish to see and do are available in our Black Forest ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide. As well as the region’s most renowned sights and museums, it details specific visits that will appeal to student groups.

This mountainous region in southwest Germany with its vast dense evergreen forests, beautiful lakes, charming valleys and picturesque villages inspired some of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. There is much for students to be inspired by, and as they explore the region they’ll soon discover there is far more to the Black Forest than just the famous gateau.

A sample from our wide range:

Black Forest Open Air MuseumSee the last 400 years of Black Forest culture and history come to life. The regions architecture, traditions, customs and trades, and the way people lived and farmed throughout the ages are presented in fully-furnished farmhouses, several outbuildings and gardens located across 12 acres.

In addition to a guided tour, school groups can take part in a variety of interactive learning experiences.

Europa Park Theme ParkThe Europa Park theme park is Germany’s largest and Europe’s second most popular theme park. With more than 100 attractions including 11 rollercoasters and shows, it is a popular choice for a fun day out. Being themed around 13 European countries, students can also gain an insight into different countries and cultures.

Dorotheenhütte Glass Factory This factory in Wolfach still manufactures mouth blown glass using traditional methods. During a visit you can discover the fascinating history of glassmaking, the growth of glass artistry, see how glass is blown and cut, and older students have the opportunity to try glass-blowing for themselves.

Gutach Waterfalls - TribergGermany’s highest waterfalls are a splendid spectacle of nature. The waters of the Gutach plunge over 160m in seven cascades into the valley below. Nature and wildlife can be observed along the pathways to and from the waterfalls.

The Rhineland is one of the best known regions of Germany and a firm favourite with student groups. As well as the spectacular cities of Aachen, Cologne, Bonn and Koblenz, the region boasts enchanting castles, picturesque villages, medieval towns and vineyards that rise steeply on either side of the great river after which the region is named.

The Rhineland is an ideal destination to introduce students to German life, culture and language. Home to a vast array of renowned sights and attractions you will need to consider carefully how to spend your time away, as there is so much to see and do!

The delightful city of Aachen, once the favourite residence of Charlemagne, is renowned for the Mediterranean flair of its historical old quarter, which is filled with bubbling fountains, both large and small, and its famous cathedral. It is still often referred to as Aix-la-Chapelle, after Charlemagne’s great Palatine Chapel, now part of its glorious treasure-filled cathedral and a ‘must’ for all art-lovers.

Cologne’s location on the Rhine has long been key to its status as capital of the region. The city suffered terribly in World War II, losing most of its historic centre, and only a small proportion of the Altstadt, right by the river, survives, or has been reconstructed in its original form. Today, visitors come not only to see the awe inspiring Dom and Romanesque churches, but also for the city’s fine museums and the Schokoladenmuseum Cologne, unsurprisingly a popular choice with students.

Located next to the River Rhine, Bonn is best-known for being the birthplace of the world-famous composer Beethoven but it’s history dates back to the 1st century BC when Roman soldiers were stationed in the city and the largest known Roman fort was built at Bonn. The city’s cultural scene is thriving and the city is famous for its Museum Mile (Museumsmeile).

Koblenz is situated within the picturesque landscape of the Rhineland and is an ideal starting point for exploring the region. Its abundance of cultural monuments and historical buildings, the cosy little lanes and alleyways, and the relaxed and happy atmosphere of its squares and river promenades make it a charming town.

The regal city of Mainz, the delightful town of Boppard located in the Loreley Valley, and Rüdesheim located at the foot of the Niederwald on the Rhine’s east bank, are also all worth considering during a visit to the region.

If you are visiting late November and throughout December the region boasts some of the best Christmas Markets in Europe. An excellent opportunity for students to practise their language skills.

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to the Rhine and Moselle your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities and excursions. Full details of everything you might wish to see and do are available in our Rhine & Moselle ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide. Specific sites and attractions to consider include Ehrenbreitschein Fortress, one of the best preserved fortresses in Europe, towering over the Deutsches Eck, where the Moselle River runs in to the Rhine; Marksburg Castle, dating back to the 12th century and yet remarkably well preserved; and the Boppard Chairlift Ride, which provides stunning views over Boppard and the Rhine River.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

Boppard to Koblenz Rhine CruiseCombine a Rhine River cruise past castles and vineyards with a breathtaking ride on the cable car from Koblenz over the Rhine to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The combination of a cruise (1½ to 2 hours long), the return cable car ride and admission to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress is a popular choice.

Schokoladenmuseum CologneThe Chocolate Museum is located in a glass and metal building constructed to look like a ship on the Rheinau harbour peninsula near Cologne Cathedral. It takes you on a tour through the 3,000 year history of chocolate - from the Aztec ambrosia "food of the gods" to modern industrial chocolate products.

Romanticum KoblenzHoused in an impressive building this interactive exhibition of the Middle Rhine Valley is staged around and area of 800 m². Setting out as a passenger on a steamboat you are taken on a journey through time, experiencing the romance of the Rhine up close, its’ romance, legends, and fairytales.

Marksburg CastleOn the Rhine's right bank, upstream from its junction with the Moselle, a hill rises above the town of Braubach. Crowning the hill is Marksburg Castle, its unusually slender keep towering above the surrounding courts and ramparts. Marksburg Castle is the only hill castle on the Rhine that has never been destroyed. It has been lived in for over 700 years and therefore represents an ever-changing and developing building complex that has been growing into its present shape over the centuries.

You may well choose to begin your own exploration of the city at Potsdamer Platz, the most striking example of the urban renewal that turned Berlin into the ‘New Berlin’ in the 1990s. The area today consists of the three developments known as Daimler City, the Sony Centre and the Beisheim Centre, which literally transformed the dormant wasteland where the Berlin Wall stood between east and west Berlin until 1989. The challenge of rebuilding the heart of post Cold War Berlin was no trifling matter – how to transform a desolate sandy wasteland into the new German capital’s city centre - and what can be seen today is rightly regarded as a successful compromise.

Of course, as you explore the city, you will see that it now offers everything you would expect of a capital city. Shops ranging from wickedly expensive temples of consumption overflowing with designer labels to flea and antique markets, shopping malls, bargain stores and the whole spectrum in between. For luxury designers and international chain outlets head for Kurfürstendamm or Friedrichstrasse, while for flair, trendier boutiques and hip Berlin labels browse around the Mitte district. Plus, if you are travelling in December you can visit the Christmas markets in Berlin. Free time for shopping and visiting markets is an excellent opportunity for students to interact with locals and practise their language skills.

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to Berlin your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities, excursions and dining options. Full

details of everything you might wish to see and do are available in our Berlin ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide. As well as the city’s most renowned sights and museums, it details specific visits that will appeal to student groups, such as the East Side Gallery, a 1.3 km-long painted stretch of the former Berlin Wall that is the largest open-air gallery in the world with over one hundred original mural paintings – a colourful tribute to what was once a divided city. Experience a tour of the wall through the eyes of tour guides who were authentic witnesses of its history. The Story of Berlin Museum has state-of-the-art multimedia technology and walk-through scenes that take visitors on a fascinating journey through 800 years of the city's history. This is a museum with a difference.

Your Programme Manager can also pre-book meals for your group at a range of restaurants in Berlin, providing you with their recommendations to suit your itinerary, budget and dietary requirements. Whatever your plans you can rest assured that your Study Experiences Programme Manager will be able to arrange them for you.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

The East Side GalleryThe East Side Gallery is a 1.3 km-long painted stretch of the former Berlin Wall along the Mühlenstrasse in former East Berlin. It is the largest open-air gallery in the world with over one hundred original mural paintings - a colourful tribute to what was once a divided city.

The Story of Berlin MuseumThe Story of Berlin is a multimedia exhibition with over 20 theme-rooms which show over 800 years of the capital's history: from its trading centre status in the Middle Ages to the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Using modern exhibition features combined with original models and lavishly reconstructed historic facsimiles, visitors enter different historical worlds.

Berlin Adventure TrailThis trail is an engaging experience featuring activities in a number of different zones. It follows a route from the iconic Reichstag to Museum Island through the heart of the city via a number of world-famous sights, including the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, Gendarmenmarkt, Humboldt University and Berliner Dom. This trail turns a standard sightseeing expedition into a three-dimensional, multi-faceted experience using key skills such as creative and lateral thinking, working as a team, observational and puzzle-solving skills.

DDR MuseumThe DDR Museum tells the story of every-day life in the former state, looking “behind the wall” to understand just what it was like to live under Real Existing Socialism. The museum enables the visitor to see and experience the reality behind the façade of the Socialist dictatorship, and find out just what the government tried to keep secret.

Immersing your students in the culture contributes towards their learning objectives and combined with visiting attractions and free time in a new environment with their fellow classmates, makes for a valuable and memorable experience.

After the tour, we recommend you stroll down La Rambla, Spain’s most celebrated street, which is rewarding at every step. Flower stalls, mime artists, the huge Boquería market, Gaudí’s magnificent Palau Güell and the Liceu opera house, as well as countless restaurants and tapas bars, ensure that progress from Plaça de Catalunya, the city’s central square, to the modern Port Vell area, overlooked by the 200-ft high Columbus monument, is a fascinating experience. Of course, no visit would be complete without seeing fabled Antoni Gaudí’s remarkable – and truly awe-inspiring – Sagrada Família, the architect’s towering, unfinished temple which has become Barcelona’s most enduring symbol. Throughout the city are other examples of Gaudí’s unique work, including the famous Casa Milà apartment block in the heart of the Eixample, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Parc Güell, with its colourful mosaics and its striking monuments and statues.

Catching the cable car to Montjuïc gives you an excellent perspective over the skyline of Barcelona. Other attractions on the hill include the Olympic Stadium and the Poble Espanyol (Spanish village) a collection of houses in different Spanish architectural styles. At the centre of a plaza in front of the Palau Nacional is the Font Màgica or Magic Fountain. Popular because of its water arrangements, sound and lighting it offers musical choreography lasting 10 to 14 minutes most evenings.

You may like to head out of the city and take the scenic drive to the stunning mountainside monastery of Montserrat, potent symbol and spiritual centre of

Catalonia. The fortress-like nature of the building – it is accessible only by winding road or cable car – served it well during the Franco regime, when Montserrat became a refuge for Catalan nationalism, and of course the views from its lofty perch are outstanding.

Should you be able to travel in December, then you will also be able to enjoy the city’s lively Christmas Markets, an excellent opportunity for students to practise their language skills.

To ensure that you make the most of your trip to Barcelona your Programme Manager is able to arrange a wide choice of educational visits, activities, excursions and dining options. Full details of everything you might wish to see and do are available in our Barcelona ‘Educational Visits and Attractions’ Guide. As well as the city’s most renowned sights and museums, it details specific visits that will appeal to student groups.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

La RamblaNo visit to Barcelona is complete without a walk along La Rambla, Barcelona's famous tree-lined avenue with its kiosko news and souvenir stands, bird and flower sellers. Mime artists and street entertainers vie for your attention, whilst locals take their evening paseo. La Rambla is actually five streets in one, hence the plural vernacular, running from Rambla de Canaletes at Plaça de Catalunya down to Rambla de Santa Monica, ending at the port, Port Vell.

Sagrada FamiliaThe church of La Sagrada Família was begun in 1882 and in 1883 Gaudí was commissioned to carry on the works, a task which he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea and the building continues.

Nou Camp Stadium ExperienceHome to FC Barcelona, a tour of the Nou Camp Stadium is always a popular choice with student groups. It is a truly memorable experience to visit the Nou Camp and the stadium’s incredible facilities. The stadium also houses the most visited museum in Catalonia, El Museu del Barça.

Boquería Market A fantastic treat for the senses, the Boquería market offers all manner of Spanish and Catalan produce under one roof: fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and seafood stalls display their wares in one of the finest settings in Barcelona, dating back to the early 1800s. Whether you visit to shop, or simply to have a café or some tapas, a visit to the Boquería is a must and an ideal opportunity to practise speaking Spanish.

China offers students one of the world’s great lifetime experiences; its renowned sights, such as the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City in Beijing, Shanghai’s skyline and the colonial Bund district, fully justify their amazing reputations.

Mandarin in China

Study Experiences has developed a unique tour programme for school and college students combining great sights with fascinating cultural visits and exclusive educational experiences. The educational benefits to the students of immersing themselves in a totally different way of life will remain with them for many years to come.

Our tour programme starts in Beijing, where you will discover the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Monument to the Peoples Heroes, Tiananmen Square, the Olympic Birds Nest Stadium and the Summer Palace. Close to the city are some of the best preserved sections of the Great Wall, truly one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights.

Your guide will also take you amongst the city’s narrow and busy backstreets, known as ‘hutongs’, where smoky temples, courtyard houses and the hectic bustle of the local markets offer a genuine glimpse of traditional Chinese life. You will travel through the hutongs by rickshaw, which provide the best way to view these traditional areas.

From Beijing, on a 9 day tour, you will visit Shanghai via Suzhou. A delightfully traditional town over 2,500 years old, Suzhou is criss-crossed with canals and full of exquisitely landscaped gardens. In contrast when you

travel on to cosmopolitan Shanghai, you will witness the economic growth driving the unprecedented development taking place in China, as well historic sights such as The Bund and the Yuyuan Gardens.

Your AccommodationOur hotels in Beijing and Shanghai are of 3 or 4-star standard, such as the Hotel Rainbow in Beijing and the Jiulong Hotel in Shanghai. All rooms at the hotels have two or three single beds, private bathrooms, colour television and telephone. Teachers are accommodated on the basis of two sharing a room.

Your MealsStudy Experiences includes a full ‘non-chopstick’ buffet breakfast of both Western and Chinese cuisine and multi-course Chinese dinner on each day of your tour, as well as lunch on your day of arrival.

Group SizeOur tour programme is based on a minimum group size of 20 students, however many schools and colleges bring a group of 40-50 students to secure the best tour price.

Your Choice of Travel DatesOur China tours are available throughout the year, during term time and also during half terms and holidays. You are therefore able to select your choice of travel dates. Please note that certain dates may carry a supplement to the prices shown. Our most popular travel periods for student groups are during the February and October half terms, the Easter holidays and the July activity week period.

From our wide range of educational experiences we recommend:

Tiananmen SquareTiananmen Square is the world’s largest public square, with its monolithic monuments to Communist glory, including an immense portrait of Chairman Mao. Set in the heart of the city, it also provides a poignant reminder of China’s hapless democracy movement and the 1989 demonstrations.

Temple of HeavenThe Temple of Heaven provides the most wonderful example of Ming architecture in the city. Built in the 15th century and set in its own 200 hectare park, its dominant feature is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which sits impressively atop a three-tiered marble terrace.

Forbidden CityThe Forbidden City is a complex of imperial palaces, which for over 500 years were home to the emperors of both the Ming and the Qing dynasties. Grand halls and courtyards gradually give way to more intimate domestic areas, giving a unique insight in to the luxurious lifestyles of the emperors.

Great WallThe Great Wall is undoubtedly one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights. Stretching almost 4500 miles, the original wall was built over 2000 years ago, however it was during the Ming dynasty that the brickwork and stone slabs were laid.

The BundShanghai’s vibrant waterfront district, where you are surrounded by classic 1930s colonial architecture, provides a spectacular view across the river of the towering skyscrapers of new Shanghai.
