EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES1. Review the current diagnostic approach and management of the main complications of liver cirrhosis,

including portal hypertension, hepatopulmonary syndrome and porto-pulmonary hypertension.2. Understand the negative impact of frailty and sarcopenia in patients with advanced cirrhosis

and discuss the role of palliative care in these patients.3. Describe the role of liver transplant in patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis, the use of

quantitative liver tests as the basis for organ allocation, and guidance regarding palliative care for decompensated cirrhosis.

4. Review the current use of organs from donors with hepatitis C virus infection.5. Understand diagnostic criteria and management goals for autoimmune hepatitis.

LOCATIONThe course will be held at The Officer’s Club located at 150 South Fort Douglas Blvd., Building 649 Salt Lake City, Utah which is 18 miles south of the Salt Lake International Airport via a six-lane interstate highway (I-80).

We will also discuss liver transplant in patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis, the controversy around accepting organs from hepatitis C infected donors, a patient’s perspective on liver transplantation, current and future pharmacological therapy of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the management of autoimmune hepatitis and an approach to drug-induced liver injury.
