READ THIS MANUAL. This tool may cause per-sonal injury if used incorrectly. Read this manual for proper safety and operating instructions to reduce this risk.

WEAR EYE PROTECTION. This tool may throw small fragments during operation, which may cause serious eye injury. Always wear ANSI approved safety glasses or face shield to reduce your risk from this hazard.

WEAR A RESPIRATOR. This tool may produce fine dust during operation, which can cause respi-ratory injury if inhaled. Always wear a NIOSH- approved respirator for the type of material being processed.

WEAR HEARING PROTECTION. This tool is very loud during operation and can cause per-manent hearing loss. To reduce your risk, always wear hearing protection, such as ear plugs or ear muffs while operating.

WEAR LEATHER GLOVES. Wear leather gloves when handling sheet metal. Deburr or chamfer workpiece edges after cutting.

MAINTAIN SAFETY GUARDS. Your tool may be equipped with safety guards or other structural components designed to reduce the risk of injury during operation. Never modify or operate this tool with any guards or components removed or damaged.

KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. Children can injure themselves with this tool. Disconnect and lock the tool away when not in use.

AVOID ENTANGLEMENTS. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry that may be caught in moving parts. Wear a hair covering to contain long hair.

USE CORRECT AIR PRESSURE. Exceeding the maximum PSI rating of this tool may cause unpre-dictable operation or bursting.

AVOID FLAMMABLES. Do not use around flam-mables that may be ignited by sparks.

UNATTENDED OPERATION. Disconnect air pressure and power before servicing, changing accessories, or moving to another location. Never leave this tool unattended.

SECURE TOOLING. Always verify tooling is secure before operation.

REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES AFTER USE. These tools become dangerous projectiles if left on the tool when it is started.

MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools lubri-cated and clean for best and safest performance.

DO NOT FORCE TOOL. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS BEFORE USING. Check for binding and alignment of parts, broken parts, part mounting, loose bolts, and any other conditions that may affect operation. Repair or replace damaged parts before operating.

USE GOOD LIGHTING. Keep work area well lighted. Dark work areas increase risk of injury.

AVOID UNINTENTIONAL OPERATION. Always disconnect air and power when not in use.

USE RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES. Using improper accessories may increase risk of injury.

NEVER ALLOW UNTRAINED USERS TO USE THIS TOOL WHILE UNSUPERVISED.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF THE INTENDED OPERATION, STOP USING TOOL. Seek formal training or research books or magazines that spe-cialize in pneumatic tools.

BE AWARE OF HOSE LOCATION. An air hose can become a tripping hazard when laid across the floor in a disorganized fashion.

DO NOT USE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL, OR WHEN TIRED.

AssemblyDetermine suitable location for planishing ham-mer based on planned use. Larger workpieces will require larger space around planishing ham-mer, so plan accordingly.

Items Needed QtyA. Assistant ..................................................... 1B. Hex Wrench 6mm ....................................... 1

To assemble planishing hammer:

1. With help of an assistant, raise main frame to upright position, then place support bracket under main frame. Position support bracket so threaded holes in cross brace point toward frame (see Figure 2).

2. Mount support bracket to main frame with (4) M8-1.25 x 25 cap screws, (4) 8mm lock wash-ers, and (4) 8mm flat washers (see Figure 2). Finger-tighten for now.

5. Mount planishing hammer to floor using fasteners appropriate for floor type (refer to Anchoring to Floor on next page).

6. Check oil level in lubricator. If oil level is low, refill with pneumatic tool oil.

3. Attach horizontal brace to main frame and support bracket with (6) M8-1.25 x 25 cap screws, (6) 8mm lock washers, and (6) 8mm flat washers, as shown in Figure 3.

Anchoring to Floor

Anchoring machinery to the floor prevents tipping or shifting and reduces vibration that may occur during operation, resulting in a machine that runs slightly quieter and feels more solid.

If the machine will be installed in a commercial or workplace setting, or if it is permanently connect-ed (hardwired) to the power supply, local codes may require that it be anchored to the floor.

If not required by any local codes, fastening the machine to the floor is an optional step. If you choose not to do this with your machine, we rec-ommend placing it on machine mounts, as these provide an easy method for leveling and they have vibration-absorbing pads.

Lag shield anchors with lag screws (see below) are a popular way to anchor machinery to a con-crete floor, because the anchors sit flush with the floor surface, making it easy to unbolt and move the machine later, if needed. However, anytime local codes apply, you MUST follow the anchoring methodology specified by the code.

The basic operation of a planishing hammer con-sists of inserting a piece of sheet metal between the hammer and die, then actuating the hammer while moving the sheet metal around to shape it.

There are two main variables that can be adjusted to alter the results of your work:

• Die Radius: Controls the curve of the shaped workpiece. Change by installing dies with dif-ferent radii.

• Air Supply PSI: Controls how fast and hard the hammer strikes the die while the foot switch is pressed. Change by adjusting air pressure between 90–120 PSI.

Operation

To operate planishing hammer:

1. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM AIR PRESSURE AND POWER!

2. Loosen set screw on die until it is flush with inside of die, then insert die onto driver and tighten set screw.

3. Adjust height of die using elevation handwheel (see Figure 5) to accommodate thickness or gauge of your workpiece. Secure die height by turning lock handle counterclockwise against frame.

4. Connect planishing hammer to air supply, as shown in Figure 6.

Note: There are many different styles of quick-connect fittings. If the air fitting supplied with the Model T27620 does not fit the style you have on your hose, you will need to make them match.

5. Set desired air pressure between 90-120 PSI using filter/regulator pressure dial (see Figure 7). Pull up on pressure dial to adjust pressure. Press down on pressure dial to lock setting. A lower air pressure will provide a softer hammer blow.

6. Adjust oil flow on lubricator using drip setting dial (see Figure 7). A setting of two drips per minute is sufficient for regular operation.

9. Insert workpiece between hammer and die, press down on foot switch to start hammering (see Figure 8), and move workpiece around to shape it.

10. When shaping task is complete, release foot pedal to stop planishing hammer.

MaintenanceBefore Every Use• Check oil level in the lubricator; refill as need-

ed with pneumatic tool oil.• Check all mounting and component hardware

and fasteners; adjust/tighten as necessary.• Check all air connections; replace leaking or

defective connections.• Check for worn or shorted wiring; replace as

necessary. As Needed• Check air filter/regulator water trap for fluid

buildup and press drain valve (see Figure 7) to empty.

If you need help with your new planishing ham-mer, call our Tech Support at: (570) 546-9663.

11. Before leaving planishing hammer unattend-ed, disconnect air supply and power, and press foot switch to release any remaining air pressure.
