ADD GASOLINE• Fill fuel tank_ Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded

gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane (Use of leadedgasoline will increase carbon and lead oxide depositsand reduce va{ve life) Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can be used within 30days to assure fuel freshness.

IMPORTANT: WHEN OPERATING iN TEMPERATURESBELOW 32°F(0°C), USE FRESH, CLEAN WINTER GRADEGASOLINE TO HELP INSURE GOOD COLD WEATHERSTARTINGWARNING: Experience indicates that alcohol blendedfuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) canattract moisture which leads to separation and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. To avoid engineproblems, the fuel system should be emptied before stor-age of 30 days or longer. Drain the gas tank, start theengine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor areempty. Use fresh fuel next season. See Storage Instruc-tions for additional information. Never use engine orcarburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See Fig. 33)

The carburetor has been preset at the factory and adjust-ment should not be necessary, However, minor adjust-ment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel, temperature, altitude or toad_ If the carburetor does needadjustment, proceed as follows:

In general, turning the adjusting needles in (clockwise)decreases the suppfy of fuel to the engine giving a leanerfuel/airmixture. Turningthe adjusting needlesout (counter-clockwise) increases the supply of fuel to the engine givinga richer fuel/air mixture,

IMPORTANT: DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES _,ND THESEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF NEEDLE ISTURNED IN TOO TIGHT

NOTE: The carburetor on this engine is low emission° It isequipped with an idle fuel adjusting needle with a limitercap, which allows some adjustment within the fimits allowedby the cap. Do not attempt to remove the limiter cap. Thelimiter cap cannot be removed without breaking the adjustingneedie_

o Be sure you have a clean air filter and the throtttecontrol cable is adjusted properly (see above)

" Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes Makeadjustments with engine running and shift/motion controllever in neutral (N) position

• ldle___eed setting - With throttle control lever in slow(.,_8_)position, engine should idle at 1750 RPM Ifengine idles too slow or fast, turn idle speed adjustingscrew in or out until correct idle is attained

o !die fuel needle setting - With throttle controt lever inslow (',_.) position, turn idle fuel adjustment needle in(clockwise) until engine begins to die and then turn out(counterclockwise) until engine runs rough., Turn needleto a point midway between those two positions

• Recheck idle speed Readjust if necessary

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: IT IS IMPORTANT TO PREVENT GUMDEPOSITS FROM FORMING hl ESSENTIAL FUELSYSTEM PARTS SUCH AS CARBURETOR. FUEL FILTER.FUEL HOSE, OR TANK DURHtG STORAGE, ALSO,EXPERIENCE iNDICATES THAT ALCOHOL BLENDEDFUELS (CALLED GASOHOL OR USING ETHANOL ORMETHANOL) CAN ATTRACT MOISTURE WHICH LEADSTO SEPARATION AND FORMATION OF ACIDS DURINGSTORAGE. ACIDIC GAS CAN DAMAGE THE FUELSYSTEM OF AN ENGINE WHILE tN STORAGE• Drain the fuel tank.

• Start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines andcarburetor are empty

° Never use engine or carburetor cteaner products in thefuel tank or permanent damage may occur

• Use fresh fuel next season

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative inminimizing the formation of fuet gum deposits during stor-age. Add stabilizer to gasotine in fuel tank or storagecontainer, Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizercontainer. Run engine at least lO minutes after addingstabilizer to aItowthe stabilizer to reach the carburetor. Donot drain the gas tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer
