Opening Sat. 20 Oct. 5pm. Opening events will include artists’ talk &live performance. Irish artist Sam Keogh, based in London, focuses onmixing different textures, solids and colours to produce objectsresembling minerals, crystals and extra-terrestrial material, while equallyappearing reflective of desire and dreams. Keogh identifies his work asspeaking of a “democratisation of material,” where anything andeverything may be used.
English artist Lucy Andrews, based in Dublin, on the other hand exploresspaces of illusion and everydayness through her carefully craftedsculptures that are embodiments of familiar objects. Whether they arelarge bowls filled with fluid, or more amorphous explorations that seem tomimic or perhaps mock the world we live in.

The Celtic TwilightFri. 05 Oct. – Sun. 27 Jan.This exhibition examines the tensions between the Celtic Revival of Irisharts and literature in the early twentieth century and the birth of theModernist movement in Ireland. Due to its fractured history, the relation-ship between the archaic and the modern in Ireland has been particu-larly antagonistic. This show explores the way in which ideological ten-sion manifested itself along geographic lines between urban and ruralIreland and particularly, looks at the glorification of the image of the Westamong Ireland’s artistic community. The exhibition features a number ofworks new to the collection by Mainie Jellet, which we have recently ac-quired on long-term loan.

Searching for SugarmanCert: 12A. Dir: Malik Benjelloul. Sweden/UK, 2012, 86 min.The Model is delighted to relaunch The Model Cinema with Searchingfor Sugarman. Film-maker Bendjelloul sets out to find Rodriguez, a stag-geringly talented performer from Detroit, discovering along the way thatthis total unknown in the U.S. had caught on in a big way in South Africa, where his anti-establishment anthems struck a chord with disaffectedwhite liberals, who bought his records in such numbers he outsold Elvis!Fans insist that Rodriguez’s career ended spectacularly when he burnedhimself to death on stage. Could it really be true? It’s an amazing story, which proves just as life affirming as The Buena Vista Social Club. “Unmissable” -The Irish Times★★★★
