country. They’ve offered us their vision of the coming trends after these months of confinement. We’ve also presented them with fun-filled décor challenges. Did they take up the gauntlet?

To add a special touch to this ,“number 10” issue, we’ve added a great interactive component. Don’t forget to scan the QR codes you’ll find in the next 60 pages!

They offer some amazing surprises and valuable insights!

Also, we offer our interview with the architect Mónica Diago! Lover of natural materials, neutral colours and simple lines, Mónica tells us the secrets of creating projects with that amazing “WOW” effect!

We will also make a recap of the biggest event in interior design in the country, Casa Decor 2020, focussed on sustainability, which reopened its doors after the health crisis on June 8th until July 5th.

FIND OUT FROM RENOWNED INTERIOR DESIGNERS, ARCHITECTS AND LANDSCAPERS

After the Covid-19 crisis there will be big changes. Now we will look for a different type of home.

We’ve realised we have certain needs and new homes will reflect that.

Entrances will have a shoe cupboard to take off our shoes when we get home, a place to leave keys, the mobile phone and be able to disinfect easily. Also, water to wash our hands when we get home. A

small sink can be an original piece that is also integrated into the décor of the home.

B L A N C A H E V I A“WE WILL LOOK FOR OPEN SPACES AND NATURAL MATERIALS”

Spaces will be more multifunctional. Teleworking from home has been a very important factor in optimising our time, avoiding the commute into big cities.

The kitchen will be another place of renewed focus. This is where we have spent a lot of time with our families. We’ve come up with new recipes and created a perfect environment for sharing. And so now it will be essential for kitchens to be spacious, a meeting point. There

will also be a storage area to keep our stores since there could be renewed spikes in the virus.

It’s possible that from now on people thinking of moving will consider going outside the cities, looking for more open space. If that’s not possible, it is important to have a small balcony, a patio or garden.

Another change when renovating our future homes will be to look for much more ecological materials.

P.07P.06

In spending so much time at home, something we didn’t do so much before, we’ve had time to analyse and think about what areas of the home or space need to be improved for comfort, layout or simply to be refreshed. Our home deserves to be heard and that we make the changes we need to make. Also, now more than ever, it’s important to support Spanish companies. Large, medium and small, tradespeople: it’s up to us to support Spanish products. It’s time to come together and move forward together. We also have to make sure the products we use are ecological and biodegradable. That is, to make better choices about the products we use, especially professionals.

V I R G I N I A A L B U J A“WE’LL ENCOURAGE THE USE OF MADE IN SPAIN MATERIALS”

On an architectural level, we have to reflect on forms of construction and change the way we build in Spain. To stop making brick boxes and unliveable spaces; to think that families live inside these boxes and they must be adapted to people’s needs.

“DESIGNED FOR TELEWORKING”

New homes will be designed for teleworking. We’ll look for functionality at home, to create comfortable, efficient workspaces. We will also be more aware of environmental issues. We’ll be more responsible with the environment, recycle our furnishings and especially make more use of natural materials.

S A N D R A A M A T E

I’ve been something of a visionary in this. Years ago, I conceived and designed a different way of living called “Atelier Living”. These are New York style lofts for professionals who don’t separate their personal and professional lives or their passions. These are diaphanous spaces with high ceilings, ideal for events or art exhibitions. One of the novelties is that the furnishings are moveable. A panel separates the spaces like a folding door.

The kitchen is the heart of our home. The place where we go to escape the home office, becoming a place for relaxation. The trends in kitchen design will change. We want to experiment with new recipes we’ve never tried before; we want our technology to be integrated. To make a videocall to grandma

while preparing a traditional recipe and sharing that moment with her.

S A C I N T E R I O R I S M O“THE KITCHEN IS THE HEART”

In terms of colours, early in the year we worked with black, dark colours and stone. Now we want natural, wood tones, vintage colours; maybe its traditional but with a modern touch, adding new materials like Hisbalit mosaic tiles, that we can use for both

the splashback and on the floor and helps give that personal touch to a space that is the heart of our home.

From now on we will pay much more attention to our homes. We have spent so much time at home in confinement that we’ve had the opportunity to think about how to create a beautiful, comfortable home and how to improve it by bringing in more light.

C R I S T I N A C H ÁV E Z / G A L Á N S O B R I N I“WE’LL BRING IN MORE LIGHT”

Those who have an outdoor area, either a balcony, terrace or garden will try to get the most out of it. Those who don’t have an exterior space will certainly think about creating an indoor garden with large plants and a good workspace at home because teleworking will be increasingly common.

P.11P.10

After confinement, we’ve realised that what is most important in the home are green spaces: terraces, interior patios and small gardens. Nature is life; plants absorb pollution and help us connect to our inner selves. That’s why it’s important to bring vegetation into our homes. For example, in living rooms

or spaces with lots of light where tropical plants can grow.

And outdoors, small gardens. We must work to cultivate these wonderful spaces.

C L A R A R O D R Í G U E Z - S P I T E R I“GREEN AREAS WILL BE THE STARS”

Many people think that a garden is just a question of having a few plants. They couldn’t be more wrong. It’s very important that gardens have a planned layout, with sitting areas and paths leading to them. And everything in top quality materials. For example, a fountain in Hisbalit mosaic tiles in blue or green tones or steps leading to a great pool with a multicolour design in mosaic tile, giving a touch of elegance.

Or, for example, an entrance with an old-fashioned, Italian-style pergola with wooden beams.

If we are renovating the bathroom or the kitchen its’s important to use durable materials that will last over time, and that are manufactured using recycled materials or that can be recycled and given a second life.

D E V E S A G E N J O“HOMES WILL HAVE AN ECO- TOUCH”

Another important point is to choose objects that are sourced locally, supporting local commerce, handcrafted items with a smaller carbon footprint in transportation. We can also look to more organic forms, a painted mural to give the feel of being outside and connecting with nature.

“INTERIOR DESIGNERS WILL TAKE ON A BIGGER ROLE”

M A N U E L E S P E J O

On the other hand, and we are seeing it now, there will be much greater demand for homes with gardens, balconies or terraces. And those who have them will value these spaces much more and want to improve them.

“PASSIVE HOUSE ARCHITECTURE AND BIO-CONSTRUCTION ARE THE FUTURE”

L O R E N A D E L P O Z O

Colours evoking the earth and the natural world. Slate, silicates, mahogany and oak colours are the trend to bring us closer to nature. Another important aspect is the air we breathe; it must be “non-toxic”. We have to watch for those added toxic elements present in the products of our everyday lives and be aware of all the magnetic fields produced by our electrical devices and gadgets. We should have technicians to take measurements to create a healthy environment, taking care of details to make sure lighting is optimal, an ideal hydrothermal environment and that the air we breathe is as healthy as possible in homes and offices.

In architecture, we should make use of the passive, traditional resources of the past to meet the needs of our lifestyle today. The German “Passive House” and bio-construction standards will become increasingly prevalent in terms of construction, analysing building energy consumption and reducing the environmental impact.

After confinement there will be big changes in interior design. Firstly, the work of interior designers will be more valued. Having a beautiful, comfortable and practical home will be a priority.

The trends in interior design and architecture after confinement will come with the prefix Bio- attached. Sustainable projects, both in their execution and design. In terms of design, we must boost the level of illumination, use passive and Eco-materials, because working with environmentally responsible, non-toxic materials is ideal. Viruses like Covid-19 are more virulent in contaminated areas and so if professionals work to incorporate local materials with lower chemical concentrations the trends in

terms of aesthetics and colours will follow along the same lines.

Sustainable pools constructed with materials that respect the natural environment will set the trend in the design and construction of spas and wellness areas.

The demand will be for designer pools that are environmentally responsible, surfaced with hygienic materials that guarantee the cleanliness and quality of the water.

“DESIGNER POOLS WITH A COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT”

Our Aqualuxe collection, with a distinctive pearlescent finish that changes colour depending on the light, is one of our most popular collections, as people seek designer pools that are also environmentally sustainable. Hisbalit is a leader in its commitment to environmental responsibility; all our mosaic tiles are manufactured from high quality recycled glass from other industries. We also use an entirely clean and environmentally responsible production system, consuming a minimum amount of water. Our kilns are electric, emitting no harmful gases and use all-natural, mineral pigments. The result is a product that is 100% recyclable and eco-friendly, offering a great deal of added-value.

P.19P.18

Hisbalit mosaic tile is a non-porous material that prevents the growth of fungi and bacteria. This is a totally hygienic, anti-allergenic material resistant to chemical agents and totally inalterable over time,

with a life span of some 30 to 40 years.

Another priority after the Covid 19 crisis, will be to guarantee the quality and cleanliness of the water in spas and wellness areas. It will be essential to use hygienic materials, easy to clean and resistant to disinfectants, such as our mosaic tile.

Personalisation will continue to be the trend in the summer of 2020 with designer pools and outdoor spaces created using a la carte colours, patterns and motifs. Thanks to Hisbalit’s Art Factory Hisbalit personalisation service any idea

can be brought to life in mosaic tile for pool surfaces and outdoor spaces.

When speaking of the latest trends in pool design, we would like to challenge the idea that there are certain essentials to the ideal pool. We don’t believe in that concept but believe in customised designs. We think of the home, with a personalised pool, considering the surface of the water just

as we do the interiors. Everything is integrated into a single concept for the project.

“VAZQUEZ I BENAGES ON THE LATEST TRENDS IN POOL DESIGN”

In terms of colours, there are no limitations. We select materials that offer a broad range of tones and colours, such as Hisbalit mosaic tiles.

The menu is immense, and we can achieve an infinite variety of water colours.

“THE MOST CREATIVE SPACEBY EQUIPO NIMU”

Fayette Proper chose her dining room as the most creative space in the home, especially because of the presence of a fetish item, an armoire inherited from her grandmother. This piece has great sentimental value and has been part of the décor of this designer in all of her homes. When she had children, she decided to paint it a cheerful colour and be used as a clothes closet. Now, in her current home, it serves as a bookcase, painted blue and marking a stark contrast with the micro-cement. A unique piece that cannot be found anywhere else.

For her part, Margarita Antes from Equipo Nimu chose her children’s bedroom. A space bursting with light and magic, including a ceiling that simulates the circus big top. The trundle beds were designed in the studio, providing ample storage space. The bedroom is a striking fusion of style and creativity.

“A HIGHLY PERSONAL BATHROOM OF MARÍA GIJÓN FROM OUI OUI CONCEPT STORE”

María Gijón opens the door of her most personal bathroom. A unique space with a remarkable customised design in the shower created with Hisbalit’s Art Factory personalisation service. A retro, geometric pattern with hexagonal tesserae in black and white that matches the floor surfaced in Hisbalit’s Unicolor 103 mosaic tile in white.

“THE LIVING ROOM OF FABIÁN ÑÍGUEZ AND HIS GENIUS FOR INVENTION”

We’ve been offered a peek into the home of designer Fabián Ñíguez, winner of the 2nd Honourable Mention for Best Project at Casa Decor 2020, and he told us a secret: when he was young he loved to give a different touch to the décor in his room. He did it by moving the furniture and objects around. Now he’s encouraging us to do the same with the décor in our homes.

Don’t miss this before and after video of the living room décor! Imagination, creativity and invention are the keys to give homes a new look.

“THE WORKSPACE OF LOURDES CALVO FROM MADRID FOREST”

Lourdes wanted to share with us the room where she has spent most of her confinement: her work room. And she shares some tips on how to create a workspace at home: chose a place in your home with a good light, a large table and surround yourself with things that inspire you. In her case, art books and fresh flowers.

“HOW TO ADAPT A DECORATIVE FIREPLACE TO THE SUMMER SEASON” LUANA GARCÍA FROM AEDIFICARE

Luana García from the design studio Aedificare accepted our challenge: to adapt her decorative fireplace to the summer season

How did she do it? Starting with the decorative fireplace surfaced in vintage mosaic tiles from our Crystal collection, she incorporated a unique, gilded sun mirror, an aged, collector’s item from the 1970’s. The designer also added an armchair, upholstered in a summery green and wild-flower fabric. A great lover of Portugal, one of Luana’s weaknesses are swallows,

which she incorporated into the fireplace décor. She also added a glove mould, rattan, bamboo, velvet…

“INFALLIBLE TIPS FOR BATHROOM RENOVATIONS FILLING THEM WITH STYLE” DIMEIC

Miriam Blázquez, from Dimeic design studio, offers us her personal tips on renovating bathrooms and filling them with style.

-Think of a good distribution and your day to day needs.

-Think of the storage space you will need to come up with practical alternatives. A bathroom has to be useful.

-Chose your materials wisely. They must be durable but also be inspiring and uplifting.

-Think of good lighting. Not only in general but also as a decorative element for a comfortable, special space.

-Chose the right shower screen. Many bathroom designs have been ruined by the wrong choice of shower screen.

-Add special pieces that are not usually found in the bathroom, for example, a sculpture, a picture or a mirror with a more unique style than the habitual bathroom mirror.

-Add natural elements. Plants, dried lavender, eucalyptus, etc.

-Think about textiles and bathroom accessories. It is essential for these to match the rest of the design and style of the bathroom.

Natural fibres, jute or raffia. These materials are used for rugs and carpets but can also be used to cover walls and ceilings. Another trend will be the use of recycled materials, such Hisbalit mosaic tiles. This is a highly versatile material that can adapt to curves and can be personalised with geometric patterns and fresh motifs. In metals, the trend is for an aged, unpolished finish. And of course, natural, earthy materials will be in demand, such as limestone or marble.

ESTUDIO DISEÑO ABSOLUTO

A trend that is here to stay is the need for versatile, multifunctional spaces, with minimal furnishings. Another is the use of vibrant, cheerful colours and natural textiles, such as linen or wood, and eco-friendly materials, for example Hisbalit mosaic tiles. Another trend we are very faithful to and that has taken on new importance is the creation of gardens inside the home. These help to lift our mood, filter the air and are a great aesthetic addition to any space.

PATRICIA BUSTOS

The most important trend in 2020 is a return to nature, to reconnect with our environment and with ourselves. Thanks to the growing awareness about sustainability, we’ve realised this is not a passing trend but something really essential. From now on we’ll see a focus on more natural environments that reconnect us to our roots; textures will become very important, natural materials like limestone, plaster, sandy or earthy materials. For textiles, linen, merino wool, faded velvet, raffia, rattan, bulrush as well as wood, marble or recycled materials.

Organic forms will become more popular, as they evoke the natural world. For curved surfaces, tiles or other materials in small formats are very adaptable and ideal, for example, recycled glass mosaic tiles from Hisbalit, which adapt well to organic forms.

This natural trend is part of the new minimalist aesthetic, a minimalism of essentials and personality to create unique spaces that reflect our personality and our emotions. It’s the “less is more” philosophy, fewer furnishings, more sculptural forms, creating minimalist spaces but, thanks to the combination of textures, with lots of personality.

Once again, Hisbalit participated in Casa Decor, the most important interior design event in Spain held at the early 20th century mansion at Calle Velázquez 21. This was a very special edition, centred on the theme of “sustainability”, and which showcased more efficient, sustainable and environmentally responsible materials, such as our eco-friendly mosaic tiles.

The 55th edition of Casa Decor opened on March 5th and was scheduled to continue until April 19th, but due to the Covid-19 crisis, the exhibition closed after only a few days until the situation improved. And so, Case Décor reopened from June 8th until July 5th, strictly complying with all public health measures.

“ 2 1 s t C E N T R U Y M A R Q U E S S ”

The interior designer José Lara presented at Casa Decor 2020 the “21st Century Marquess”, a masculine dressing room that displays the luxuries of a contemporary Marquess, focussing on the little details. Pampering both body and mind, memories of the aroma of travels, a cup

of coffee in a favourite armchair… An elegant space that is both socially and environmentally aware.

José Lara was inspired to surface the fireplace and shelves of the Marquess dressing room with Vertice, the new collection from Hisbalit. An interplay of symmetries in black and white!

A place for reflection where the 21st Century Marquess considers the possibilities for progress and sustainability to go hand in hand.

The project is based on the use of natural, recycled and hand-crafted materials that are sustainable and environmentally responsible.

One of these recycled materials that adds a special dash of distinction is Hisbalit’s ecological mosaic tiles in a new triangular format.

Another striking space was “The Berries Club”, a sophisticated dressing room inspired by Art Deco reinterpreting the verve of the roaring 1920´s.

Three geometric motifs in blue, green, beige and black provide a pleasant feeling of walking on a carpet.

This eco-friendly designer surface was used in all three areas of the space.

Consisting of the main room, a hallway and a bathroom reinventing the non-conformist spirt and elegance of the 1920´s. A unique atmosphere that pays tribute to the “Flapper Girls”, women who knew what they wanted in 1920´s New York and who stood up to the conventions of the era.

A vibrant, colourful space in which Hisbalit mosaic tile is one of the star attractions.

BLANCA HEVIA

“ L U N A S D E B I O K O ” M i a p e t r a S pa c e

In “Lunas de Bioko” Blanca Hevia has created a space with an environmentalist sensibility, inspired in Bioko, an island of Equatorial Guinea.

A paradise in a magical continent of enormous natural wealth, Africa is currently plagued by conflicts in the management of water and the consequences of climate change. An environmental problem that is present in the Miapetra space.

Blanca Hevia displays the vivid contrasts of the continent by means of a dry anteroom, leading into a verdant garden, where water seems like a gift from heaven. The effect is to create a magical atmosphere where the visitor connects with the sensations brought on by the sound of water and vibrant life of the coastal jungle.

To achieve this effect, the designer incorporated a sculpture of a palm tree at the entrance to the space, frescos on the walls with floral motifs, rattan furnishings and a shower with a zebra pattern design created using Hisbalit’s Art Factory personalisation service.

To create the design in mosaic tile, the designer selected the Stone 567 model in beige and the Unicolor 101 in black, in round format with matte finish. A fusion inspired by memories of African safaris.

NURIA ALÍA

“ M I X O L O G Y ”

Combining is the key to creativity and Nuria Alía applied the art of mixing in Mixology, a reserved area within a glamourous cocktail bar. A little corner of paradise where you can relax and have fun. Mix and combine colours, stir in forms and shake well

to create an exciting space.

Mixology is a state of mind, an experience similar to sipping a cocktail busting with complex flavours. And like any good combination, it stimulates the senses through contrasts: the sophisticated with the casual, feminine chic and playfulness, rigor

and colour, line and curve

In creating this space, the designer was inspired by the visual sensation of looking through a kaleidoscope. Nuria altered the architecture of the space, using a series of lintels to create a symmetrical and rhythmic space, highlighting its verticality to achieve spatial depth. Mirrors and the repetition of geometric patterns contribute to this effect. The result is an atmosphere which is almost hypnotic, with attractive materials and colours.

The floor and arches are surfaced in Hisbalit mosaic tiles, wallpaper, textures and glossy materials create an ambience full of sumptuous and surprising nuances.

The floor strikes the tone in Mixology. Nuria Alía created a personalised design using Hisbalit’s Art Factory personalisation service to create a multi-coloured carpet effect in green, pink, violet and living coral in a 4x4 format and gloss finish.

The designer also chose Hisbalit mosaic tiles to cover the four columns of the space, using four references that repeat on the customised floor: Hisbalit Living Coral Limited Edition, Unicolor 166 (pink), Urban Chic 714 (blue with metallic effects) and Unicolor 251 (violet). All four models are in 4x4 format with a gloss finish.

C L A S S I C B L U E

Chosen by the Global Colour Authority, Pantone, the colour of the year 2020 is Classic Blue, representing calm, confidence and connection. A timeless colour, like our mosaic

Profound and elegant, Pantone 19-4052 is inspired by a landscape under the evening sky and the desire for stability in the face of the new era we are experiencing. Thus, this is a colour that offers tranquillity and optimism, inspiring concentration and fortitude.

R e s i l i e n c e !In a world where technology advances without pause and we have to face new challenges, Pantone aims to capture the mood of people around the world, seeking the chromatic range that will help us feel sheltered and strengthen our resolve in the face of adversity. Hence, Classic Blue. A colour

that inspires resilience during the particularly challenging year 2020.

In 2011, Mónica Diago launched her own architecture firm, specialising in integral renovations. Lover of natural materials, neutral colours and simple lines, Mónica tells us the secret of creating projects with that amazing “WOW” effect! Painstaking attention to every detail, functionality, elegance

and personality are the hallmarks of all her projects.

At Hisbalit we were lucky enough to interview Mónica Diago. She gave us a preview of the coming trends in interior design that will take

centre stage in the coming months!

DO YOU SEE DÉCOR AS A NATURAL TALENT OR A LEARNED SKILL?

Strangely, the project that marked the before and after was my first project as “Mónica Diago Architect”. It just fell into my lap and allowed me to leave the studio where I was working to set up my own company.

A family entrusted me with their integral renovation project, even though I had never done a project independently before. It was very special; the budget was fairly substantial, and the project lasted one year. And so, I could work without hurry and I designed all the features of the home: the doors, bookshelves and fireplace, even the air conditioning vents. I learned a lot and it was like a Master’s degree course for me. I was also able to build up a portfolio of contacts and important professionals and have photographs of the beautiful project that I could show my future clients. I will never forget it. It was the key to creating my own studio.

WHAT PROJECT MARKED A BEFORE AND AFTER IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER?

In each project I carefully study the needs of the client and their tastes. And from there I offer my ideas and proposals. I think I grasp quickly what could work in a project based on their needs and offering a global solution: at the aesthetic, economic and functional level.

In the studio we pay careful attention to the layout. That is, seeing that everything works: the light, orientation, circulation in the spaces. In the end, we come up with an optimum solution for that client or family, which meets their needs while combining the latest trends, functionality and design.

I love to imagine, combine and create new things. Although each studio has its own personality, I try to make every project unique and that each client has a different home, with their own personality.

CREATIVITY IS THE HALLMARK OF YOUR WORK. DO YOU APPROACH EACH PROJECT AS A BLANK CANVAS WHERE YOU CAN IMAGINE, COMBINE AND CREATE?

I identify most with my role as an architect since I studied Architecture. This is my training and what I have always wanted to do. I have specialised in integral renovation projects where I can really apply all my knowledge of architecture, giving a second life to homes. That is what I am really passionate about. It allows me to focus on the smallest details but within the larger parameters of architecture, such as the study of space, light and proportions.

ARCHITECT, INTERIOR DESIGNER, BLOGGER, TEACHER. WHAT ROLE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH?

There are highly vocational careers and I think architecture and interior design are among them. Since I was a child I dreamed of being an architect. I built models and cardboard boxes for my brother’s toys and my doll collection. I always knew I wanted to be an architect and have my own studio.

I think part of it is natural talent but there is also an important part that you have to learn over time. One has to keep learning in order to improve. It is also important to recycle and adapt to new circumstances and to the world we live in.

SINCE 2011 YOU’VE MANAGED YOUR OWN STUDIO HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR WORK PHILOSOPHY?

After confinement, I would say that we will all think more about our homes, and how to make them more appealing, and even to imagine how to include comfortable and luminous work areas. As a general trend, we could say homes will become more versatile, functional and sustainable for each type of family.

AS AN EXPERT IN INTEGRAL RENOVATIONS, WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2020?

I like to keep up to date and to have a look at the latest projects posted on social media or published in traditional print magazines. I also love to travel and visit new hotels or restaurants. One can learn a lot from these and they can serve as inspiration for your own projects.

I would classify myself within any particular style, but I can say that I feel comfortable with natural materials, neutral colours and clean, simple lines.

WHAT IS YOUR MAIN SOURCE OF INSPIRATION, AND WHAT STYLE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH?

The second project that marked a before and after in my professional career was the commission to design the first cafeteria in Madrid specifically aimed at families with children. It was a very special project that opened the door to a lot of future projects that can later, all focussed on children, for example, a toy store or a children’s clothing shop.

Thanks to my blog, where I offer architecture workshops for children, and the fact of being a mother, a managed to reach the type of client who identified with me and hired me because they felt I could better understand the needs of their family, and so their project or renovation.

Maybe that’s why I love designing children’s rooms for my clients, I become a child again for a moment and think how I would like to feel in that space. That’s why it’s very important to know their needs, their age and the way they interact or play and so create “a world of fantasy dreamed up just for them”.

YOU HAVE ALSO DESIGNED PROJECTS FOR CHILDREN. WHAT’S THE KEY IN DESIGNING THESE KINDS OF SPACES?

We do functional, elegant and personalised projects, They are different from the rest because of a “special touch”, that “WOW effect” you feel when you enter a home and you realise everything has been thought through, down to the last detail.

We are specialised in integral renovations, especially private homes, with all types of budgets. We know how to get the most out of a budget, combining materials and design and always adding a special touch to each project. When the budget is tight, we combine customised features with other, more austere elements. For example, in my own home, the budget was limited because it was an integral renovation and there were a lot of square metres, so an increase in each item would have had a big impact on the final total. And so, we decided to focus our design on the key areas and features, the ones that are most important and photogenic: the iron window cabinet, the lacquered bookcase or the reading corner with a wooden cube.

I would love to design a restaurant or bar, but this time for adults!

IN WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK THAT YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY?

It has allowed me to promote my work and be inspired by others.

I created the blog in 2011 as a way to express my creativity and share the arts and crafts projects I have always enjoyed doing. From the blog we naturally moved to social media as the next step. It was a way to show the world who I was, what I liked to do and share the latest trends; and so, in this way people began to find an affinity with me and to follow me.

As for social media, Instagram has allowed me to crate my personal brand and have a style that is recognised within the word of architecture and design. We’re moving towards and digital world and many studios will have to adapt if they haven’t done so already.

THE DIGITAL WORLD IS ONE OF YOUR PASSIONS. YOU CREATED THE BLOG “THE WORKSHOP OF PRETTY THINGS” WHERE YOU SHOW RENOVATIONS, TRENDS, DIY PROJECTS. HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA TRANSFORMED THE WORLD OF ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN?

Create a team much earlier and surround myself with people to support and complement me. I was alone in the studio until two years ago. It is a profession that has its ups and downs and having someone to give you ideas, support or challenge your ideas or simply help you at critical moments in the project is always a big help.

Compensating for your weaknesses is important since its impossible to know and do everything involved in an architecture studio.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY IF YOU HAD TO START OVER?

Yes. One of the points we mention to clients when using Hisbalit tiles is precisely that they are made with recycled glass. Using any sustainable and ecological material is always a plus for any project. And the fact that they are “Made in Spain” is an added bonus.

OUR MOSAIC TILES ARE ECO-FRIENDLY IS IT IMPORTANT TO YOU TO USE ECOLOGICAL MATERIALS?

We love all the projects the studio does with Hisbalit but if I had to choose, perhaps it would be my children’s bathroom. It was the first project I did with Hisbalit mosaic tiles and I have special memories of that project.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT PROJECT WITH HISBALIT ?

Art Factory allows you to make any design you have in mind a reality and to customise how it will look down to the last pixel. Thanks to the personalisation service you can take any idea of colours and designs and visualise it before installing it.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES HISBALIT’S ART FACTORY PERSONALISATION SERVICE HAVE TO OFFER? DOES IT HELP YOU MAKE YOUR IDEAS REALITY, ADDING YOUR PERSONAL TOUCH TO EACH PROJECT?

I love using Hisbalit mosaic tiles in my projects, especially in bathrooms and kitchen because they bring a touch of sophistication, modernity and most especially because you can personalise the design, making them unique for any client and any home.

YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH HISBALIT MOSAIC TILES AND THE DESIGNS FROM ART FACTORY. WHAT DO MOSAIC TILES BRING TO YOUR PROJECTS?

THE PRINCIPAL CHANGES FOR THE COMING MONTHS ACCORDING TO THE ARCHITECT AND DESIGNER

NAYRA IGLESIAS!

I n t e r i o r d e s i g n i n

I think the health and safety measures will be applied while trying not to lose our sense of humour or closeness. For this, design is key. At In Out Studio, we are working with companies and restaurant chains to help them optimise and improve all those aspects related to image and experience, entirely revising their branding, designing new packaging, because the majority didn’t offer a delivery service, and, more importantly, adapting their indoor and outdoor spaces to be in a position to serve their clients. We don’t aim to reproduce the same experience as before, nothing is the same, but to a take advantage of this change to offer clients new experiences in the restaurant but investing as little as possible because we believe these measures are temporary and will be partially lifted in the future. That’s why it’s important to create flexible spaces in restaurant design.

IF WE SPEAK OF INTERIOR DESIGN IN HOSPITALITY, WHAT WILL BE THE NEW TRENDS FOR THE COMING MONTHS? HOW WILL THE NEW PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES EFFECT THE DESIGN OF THESE ESTABLISHMENTS?

Creating different types of terraces. There are some solutions already being considered, inflatable solutions, but we like the idea of using latticework and we always include this type of system, not only for terraces but indoors as well. Last year we developed a system of pivoting panels which allowed spaces to be compartmentalised and also served as a bottle rack and decorative element enhancing the lighting on the terrace. The perfect solution to provide intimacy and maintain the proper distance between clients.

HOW CAN YOU CREATE DESIGNER TERRACES GIVEN THE SITUATION WE WILL HAVE THIS SUMMER?

We’ll want vivid, cheerful, natural colours, something vibrant and sensorial. Psychologically, we need to reconnect with the world and clients will look for hotels and restaurants that invite them to dream, where they can relax, while also enjoy everything they had before: the sea, mountain and contact, if only visual, with other people.
