Over the last twenty-five years, the church in African has experienced phenomenal growth within all of the major denominations and independent movements. In the midst of this amazing expansion, the urgent practical question remains: How do we practically make disciples of Jesus who will transform the world? Six years ago, the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC), the largest evangelical denomination in Ethiopian with over 8 million members and 8,000 congregations, grasped the significance of an intentional discipleship strategy for holistically impacting Christianity in the Horn of Africa and beyond. The EKHC implemented a denominational discipleship plan involving all its pastors and key leadership including women, youth, and children’s ministry leaders. As a result of the intentional discipleship strategy, the EKHC now has seen more pastors/leaders trained and spiritual renewal and outreach throughout the denomination. The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church BELIEVES in discipleship and has a passion to mobilize a discipleship movement throughout Africa and beyond. THE PLAN The African Strategic Disicpleship Summit is a gathering of key African national denominational leaders dynamically partnering for the purpose of exponentially accelerating discipleship and spiritual growth throughout the mega-denominations of Africa. The purpose of the Summit is to promote an intentional and effective discipleship strategy for in-depth spiritual growth within African churches and across the globe. The EKHC has implemented a contextualized discipleship strategy that addresses many of the challenges shared by other African churches. The EKHC desires to share the discipleship lessons and experiences that the denomination has learned with other national denominational leaders. Every African country and church must be thoroughly discipled and the Summit provides a practical hands-on opportunity to see discipleship actually taking place within a mega-denomination. Summit Details: For the official delegates of the Summit from each country, Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church is committed to host the lodging, transportation within Ethiopia and training materials. However, cost for the airfares, visa and any other expenses before landing in Addis Ababa are the responsibilities of the delegating country churches. The Summit is for 6 days, in which 2 days are class sessions while the remaining 4 days are for field trips down to southern Ethiopia to experience the actual settings where discipleship movements are taking place. MOBILIZING A MOVEMENT OF DISCIPLESHIP ACROSS AFRICA

BACKGROUNDAround the world and especially in Africa, discipleship and leadership are the biggest issues facing the church.

THE PLANThe African Strategic Disicpleship Summit is a gathering of key African national denominational leaders dynamically partnering for the purpose of exponentially accelerating discipleship and spiritual growth throughout the mega-denominations of Africa.

1MISSION“MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS”DISCIPLESHIP IS THE GREATEST NEED IN THE AFRICAN CHURCHLeadership from across Africa is united in their assessment that discipleship is the greatest need facing the African Church. Some observers have said that the African church is “a mile wide and an inch deep.” Jesus-oriented discipleship is needed to produce disciples who are spiritually vibrant and missionally engaged!

DENOMINATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ACCELERATE THE GROWTH OF THE CHURCH The African Church is primarily a denominational organism. Africa is filled with small, medium, large and mega-sized denominations which are strategically structured to nurture and mobilize discipleship movements.

DOABLE DISCIPLESHIP IS POSSIBLE FOR EVERY AFRICAN DENOMINATIONJesus’ global mandate which he gave to the original disciples was doable and able to be accomplished. Too often the church has confused discipleship with classroom learning only or modeled discipleship in such a way that ordinary followers of Jesus have difficulty becoming what Christ wants them to be. What would happen if we returned to the very doable method of making disciples the Jesus way?

WHY ETHIOPIA AND WHY NOW? One African leader recently communicated, “Discipleship, Discipleship, Discipleship. Everyone is talking about discipleship but nobody is showing us how to do it.” The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church is the largest evangelical denomination in Ethiopia with 8,000 churches and 8 million members. In the last few years, this African denomination has initiated an intentional denominational discipleship strategy throughout their mega-denomination that is actually making disciples. The EKHC is inviting key denominational leaders to see and observe what God is doing in Ethiopia so that they might return and mobilize a denominational discipleship strategy in their own denominations.

BE A PART OF MOBILIZING A MOVEMENT OF DISCIPLESHIP ACROSS AFRICAJust think what would happen if key African denominational leaders who have a passion for discipleship came together or a time of unified inspiration and mobilization! The African Strategic Discipleship Summit is a one-of-a-kind gathering for leaders who are discontent with the status quo and want to DO something to change the character of Christianity in Africa and beyond.

“FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS”Too often church leaders are great at talking without much being accomplished. The time is now to be a part of something that works! Come be a part of MOBILIZING A MOVEMENT!

What is going on in Ethiopia in terms of discipleship can be done in your own denomination!
