WHAT IS A MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEM?
• A mobile operating system, also known as mobile OS operates on a smartphone, tablet, PDA, or other digital devices.
HISTORY OF MOBILE OS
• 1979 – 1992 Embedded systems used in phones.
• 1994 First smartphone, the IBM Simon, with touchscreen, email features.
• 1996 Palm Pilot 1000 PDA introduced with Palm OS
• 2000 Symbian becomes first mobile OS on a smartphone
• 2002 Microsoft introduces Windows CE for smartphones
• 2002 Blackberry releases its first smartphone
• 2007 Apple iPhone with iOS introduced
• 2007 Open Handset Alliance formed by Google, HTC, Sony, Dell, Intel, Motorola, Samsung, etc
• 2008 Android 1.0 released with HTC Dream.
• 2010 Windows Phone OS released
• 2012 Mozilla announces Firefox OS
