MINUTES:Thank you for the snacks and refreshments. Dr. Mindy McGarrah Sharp taught us the first of her two lessons and we look forward to hearing her next week.

FINANCE: Class expenditures: For any requested class expenditure, please contact a member of the Finance Committee: Bob Russell, Jim Embrey, Dave Grim or Karen Campbell (Emeritus) & Jim McCann. Since we have not yet sold the paintings that David Cooley generously donated, we are exploring other options of potentially selling them through Ziegler’s or Richard Neel Interiors. If anyone else has suggestions for methods to sell them, please contact Ed or Judith Payton.

Cookout & Bluegrass Band Concert on October 7th at 6:00 p.m. – GET READY TO PARTY!!! This Friday, our own Dave Shepherd and his renowned bluegrass band will play for us as we enjoy a crisp fall cookout on the gorgeous banks of the pond behind the home of Richard and Jeanie Payton. The class will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and all the fixings for the hamburgers and hotdogs, along with soft drinks and water. Fifty-six people are coming so it should be a blast! Here are the important details:

Bring lawn chairs if you have them.Bring any liquid items that you want to put in the coolers.Rainout plans are already in place so watch your email on Friday for any potential change in venue.

WORKING COMPASSION DINNERS DURING OCTOBER: Our mission projects for October will be to work at BAUMC’s Compassion Dinners. There are lots of ways in which each of us can serve, so watch for the sign-up sheets and choose your spot. These are profound experiences that will touch you deeply. Ray and Shannon Latchem were back in class on 9/25 and Ray was able to announce that Shannon’s cancer is behind her. What a joy, both to see them and to celebrate this great news with them!

Scott and Debra Morgan are celebrating the new job their daughter has accepted that will cause her family to move from Germany to Los Angeles. Much easier opportunities to spoil the grandchildren in LA!



Speaking of spoiling the grandchildren, Rob & Andrea Davis announced that daughter Audrey had their fourth grandchild, Jane Charlotte.

Richard Wansley was very pleased by the recent Zarrow Symposium addressing mental illness.

CLASS PRAYER REQUESTS (Concerns):Please keep the following in your prayers:



Janet Purinton remains hospitalized for treatment for what are now believed to be both viral and fungal infections. Doctors anticipate releasing her to a rehabilitation facility once all of her tests are stabilized. Although Janet is beginning to gain a little strength, please continue to send cards and avoid visits until we are told that she able to have visitors.

Michael Lane’s father passed away and his mother is dealing with dementia. Michael is looking for the best possible care for her.



The father of Nancy & Susan Morgan has been moved to hospice as his condition deteriorates. Regrettably, their mother is extremely ill as well.

Jim Embrey’s sister Pam has developed infections in her breast cancer surgical sites and is being treated for those infections. These infections are delaying her ability to begin chemotherapy.

Paul Staat has been hospitalized in Saint Francis with a viral infection.

Beth Green’s father-in-law, A.J. Green, who is well-known to many in the class, has recently undergone surgery.



The daughter-in-law of Judith & Ed Payton had a very difficult procedure this week and is having to do battle with the insurance company over whether it will pay for it. She needs prayer for both the procedure to be fruitful and the insurance company to decide to cover the process.

A friend of Glenna Arnott has been diagnosed with cancer of the tongue.

BEVERLY NORTH REQUEST – My husband Mark and I are alumni members of Maranatha. We live in Dayton, OH now, but need to sell a house in Tulsa (Regency Park). I plan to return to Tulsa the last week of October to make arrangements with the realtor. Our son, Jay, and his roommate need a house or some rooms to rent for either one or both of them.
