Justification

Theme English literacy and Cultural Understanding

Target Audience High School and High School Students (from 12 to 18 years old)1

Working in High Schools in Turkey, the project aims to develop English Skills and Cultural Understanding in High School Students through interactive presentations, discussions and activities related to themes connected with Turkey's Real Social Issues.

Even though English education is included in the national education system, according to

researches, the English Level of Turkey is considered as low proficiency in the global scenario

and one of the lowest between the European countries.

Also according to the Annual European Report, Human Rights, Democracy and

Discrimination based on color, gender, religion and minorities are top issues in the country

for its social development, which prevents the country to be accepted among the European

Zone.

Project Timeline

1st

weekOrientation Week:

1st day: Getting to know each other, cultural day (include Turkey presentation by the LC),

presentations, dynamics;

2nd day: AIESEC, clarity of why, NPS, leadership survey, explain the division of classes and

working hours (this needs to be previously aligned with the TN taker. Consider a maximum

25h per intern/week)

3rd day: Teach about classes methodology, presentation techniques, examples of dynamics, games,

ice breaks and interactive classes;

4th day: Plan classes, create a methodology and have a couple of presentations for giving and

collecting feedbacks about how to present and about the content;

5th day: Social activities (Getting to know the city and socializing)

Start classes, get to know the high school and the students;

First presentation should be cultural (about your country) and personal (about yourself);

Presentation of the first topic should start already in this week

(in case there is more than one class per week with the same students);

Giving classes to high school students related to Turkey's Real Social Issues in order to develop their English Skills

and Cultural Understanding about their culture and other realities in different countries;

Activate the students' leadership potential through classes, discussions, dynamics, activities, conclusions,

conversations and other interactions;

Understanding and comparing your own country with Turkey in terms of Cultural Understanding, Human Rights,

Education (literacy and English level) and Career Development to provide this awareness and knowledge to the students;

In the end of the project, provide a conclusion class connecting all previous discussed topics and next steps;

In the end of the project, build a report highlighting the results and its impact;

Attending to the orientation week and weekly meetings are mandatory in order to be able to execute the project,

develop others and develop yourself;

Every Week Meeting (provide inner journey, exchange feedbacks, review plan and logistics…)

Interns should bring traditional foods, drinks, clothes for Multi-culture Events which will occasionally happen.
