HAMID:   I was born in Paris but grew up in Cotonou, Benin (West Africa).  I’m Yoruba [and it’s] the reason why a lotof people assume I’m Nigerian.

MD:           Name something you love about your culture.

HAMID:  The parties.  Yorubas are known for their extravagant parties. When I was a kid, I used to love those sinceyou get to get to see all your cousins.  And since we were separated from our parents during these events, wecould be as mischievous as we wanted (as long as we didn’t get caught).  Also, these events were a great way tomake money as kids, since adults were almost always very generous.

MD:          Where were you scouted?

HAMID:  Actually the !rst time I was scouted was 3 years ago when I was working at Pret on 38th but I never reallypaid much attention to it.  During the fall of 2014 my friend, Ibou Diouf, that I met in class, was interested inmodeling and told me he was going to an open call for Red and asked me to tag along.  The week after, we bothwent together.  We both got handed contracts.  I went home and did some quick research and everythingseemed legit so I signed.

MD:          This AW16 season we saw you cast for presentations including David Hart, Todd Snyder, John Elliott

and Calvin Klein in New York.  How did you "nd the New York Men’s fashion week experience?

HAMID:  I wouldn’t really call it an experience since it’s my third fashion week in New York so I’m very used to it.  Ihowever really enjoyed working with all these di#erent brands.  I loved the atmosphere, the clothes, the peoplehelping.

MD:           Favorite Catwalk song so far?

HAMID:   Siren by this Mortal Coil – I don’t actually remember if we used that track for the catwalk but Iremembered doing the rehearsal for my !rst show with Calvin Klein FW15 listening to that and I got chills.  It tookme like 7 months to !nd the track.

MD:          Where do you see yourself in the next 3 years in this business?

HAMID:  It is really hard to tell since everything has been going so fast for me in the past year. At this moment, I’mstill learning a lot about the industry and the works so it’s almost impossible to say really.  My head is still not 100%on modeling since I still want to get my degree but hopefully in a year or two I’ll have a clear idea of what I want.  For now I’m just riding the wave.
