MLA Formatting Uses
• In MLA style referring to other works in text is done by using parenthetical citations
• Parenthetical citations involves placing relevant source information after a quote or paraphrase
• In-text citations formatting changes based on the source and the sources entry on the Works Cited page
In-text Citations
• Include authors last name and page number• Human beings have been described by Kenneth Burke as
"symbol-using animals" (3). • Human beings have been described as "symbol-using
animals" (Burke 3).• For unknown authors include shortened title of
the source and page number• Human beings have been described as "symbol-using
animals" (“Impact of Global Warming” 6)• For electronic sources do the same as above
without the page number

• Type and print on a white 8.5 x 11-inch paper• Double-space the text of the paper• Use Times New Roman as font• Use 12 pt. font size• Set margins of paper to 1 inch on all sides• Indent first line of paragraphs• Create a header that numbers all pages in
