You choose it; you mould, plan and project it - and can alter, bend, shape and use it as you wish.

recent Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) has decided that workers who are expected to be on the premises

overnight may be entitled to be paid the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for all of the hours they are on the premises, including hours when they are allowed to sleep.

There are two different scenarios here that need to be carefully considered.

If a worker is on the premises just in case they are needed, they will be entitled to be paid the NMW for all hours on site. If the worker is “on call”, they will not be classed as being at work the whole time and will only be entitled the NMW for those hours when they are actually working. It will be down to the Employment Tribunal (ET) to decide whether a worker is “at work” or “on call”. Consideration will be given to why the employer needs the worker present on site. Is it to fulfil a legal obligation which requires the worker to be present at all

times even if they have nothing to do and whether the worker is expected to be on the premises the whole time and would be disciplined if they left the premises. If this is the case, it is likely the ET will conclude the worker is entitled to be paid for the entire time they are present on the premises.

The types of business that could be affected by this are those, for example, who have a security guard employed over night to respond to alarm calls or

emergencies but for the most part are allowed to sleep; a care worker

in a nursing home who sleeps in overnight;

a boarding house parent who sleeps

in to be available to the children overnight; a night porter in a hotel.

It is likely that workers

who have been paid incorrectly

historically may be able to make a

retrospective claim.

It is worthwhile giving consideration to any workers you have on the premises overnight to ensure you are compliant with this recent decision.

o me this car looks a bit odd the Q7 I get the Q5 makes sense but this just seems like Audi are trying to cover everything for everybody buts it’s not just Audi, Mercedes

now have the GLA and BMW have the X1 the problem is with all these cars is the Qashqai is a better car and it’s a lot cheaper but I guess it doesn’t have the German badge.Having said that its drive and feel is very good considering the Q3 is the cheapest model in Audi’s Q car line-up, but there’s nothing second-rate about the quality of its interior. The dashboard and door panels are manufactured from dense, high-quality materials, while the smoothly weighted switchgear and MMI interface smack of real quality.The Q3 provides all the obvious safety equipment you’d expect: six airbags, including curtain bags that extend into the rear of the cabin; electronic stability control; and ISOFIX fittings for the front passenger and two outer rear seats. All this helped the car achieve a five-star crash rating from Euro NCAP. Deadlocks, locking wheelnuts and an alarm are also on hand to ward off thieves.

All the Q range do drive well considering it’s a small car and high up its smooth

and comfortable, handles well on corners but for me even this 2.0TDi version lacks a bit of go.Over all it’s a good solid car and they

will sell them but for me I think your money would be better spent on a

Nissan or a Kia.

was delighted to see the range of acts performing at the Milton Keynes International Festival. Attending some of their events it was clear to see just how much attention had gone into making the Festival such a fantastic showcase of our city.

It really puts our rich artistic culture on the map. I offer my huge congratulations to everyone who helped make it such a success.Summer is also the season for many community fairs, carnivals and fetes, further demonstrating the fantastic community spirit that we have in Milton Keynes. I would like to thank the organisers and the contributors for their hard work, it has been my pleasure to attend many of them.With Parliament taking its annual summer Recess, I have been able to take part in constituency events that parliamentary duties sometimes mean I miss. One of the most poignant occasions this summer was the centenary commemorations of the outbreak of First World War. It was an honour to attend a Royal British Legion event at Stadium:MK and remember the ultimate sacrifice that so many made. I joined millions across the country in turning off my house lights for an hour and lighting a candle of remembrance. It is so very important, that we never forget what happened in the Great War. With so many other parts of the world in conflict the moment, we must never forget the lessons of history nor repeat the mistakes.Another anniversary event I had the honour of attending was the 20th birthday of the Hindu Community’s DOSTI club. Sport and Education Trust where I was pleased to learn about the £86,000 they had secured from Sport England. I

also got an update of the plans for the Rugby World Cup in 2015. With matches being organised at Stadium:MK, the World Cup is going to give Milton Keynes a huge opportunity to show itself at its best, as an international contender on the world stage.

It will also give us, here in MK, a chance for people to play more sport, take part in coaching and volunteer when the

Rugby World Cup reaches our unique city.One of the biggest political events in the next few weeks is

the Scottish independence referendum on September 18th. This historic polling day actually falls on my Birthday, and a wonderful present would be a resounding NO Vote across Scotland. I do not want to see our United Kingdom broken down, I believe that we really always will be better together!!I hope that you’ve all been enjoying the summer sun and I look forward to seeing you around.
