Introduction – Mats Kuitunen MK-Naval Consulting Oy Helsinki, FINLAND MK - Consulting N A V A L “ In 1994 I graduated from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) with a Master of Science degree. My Major was Industrial Shipbuilding Engineering and Minor Ship Design. Broad international experience has been gathered from various tasks within the ship-design and -consultancy sector. I have worked closely with STX in France, Meyer Werft in Germany and the shipyards in Finland, both Turku and Helsinki. Before signing up with Norwegian Cruise Line in January 2006, I was employed by Elomatic Marine Engineering since 1995 and was, amongst other Project Management tasks, responsible for establishing Elomatic’s Helsinki office in 1998 and managing it. In 2004 I was engaged with Norwegian’s Jewel series Newbuildings at Meyer Werft, to later on become part of Norwegian’s organisation in the position of Director for Naval Architecture. In the beginning of 2007 I relocated to France with Norwegian’s New Build project EPIC. During a period of almost 4 years I overlooked especially the Naval Architectural aspects of the project as well as the steel design, construction and production. I participated in reporting the project to the top management and systematically prepared executive presentations to Miami using mainly Microsoft Office tools. In the end of 2009 a core NCL team commenced to build up Norwegian’s Breakaway Class cruise-ships from scratch, where I played an important role in developing the project from Conceptual Design into contract signing with Meyer Werft in September 2010. In the same year I was promoted to Teamleader-Naval Architecture. Knowledge of other disciplines has also broadened over the years and more responsibilities have been given over time. My report line has been directly to the SVP Newbuilding. Today, I’m working as an independent Naval Architect consulting Cruise Ship Owners in developing their Concept Designs together with chosen Yards, developing respective Technical Specifications and participating in Project Management after contract signing. MK Naval Consulting Oy was established in Spring 2016.
