MJCC l Find Yourself at the J

Dear Friend,

We’re so delighted that you are reading our Fall Program Guide!

Our theme for this year is “connect.” That’s what the MJCC is all about – providing ways for our members to connect with each other and with our community.

We are pleased to announce some of our own connections: collaborations with the Oregon Board of Rabbis, the Jewish Theatre Collaborative, Jewish Community Orchestra, PJ Library, individual congregations, Kollel, Melton, Empowering Ruth, Mothers Circle, the Institute for Judaic Studies, Jewish Family and Child Service and – last but most certainly not least – our generous funder, the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland!

We’re also partnering with the Portland Police Bureau, Portland Fire and Rescue Station Number 5, the Red Cross, and Azrael’s Wish, a local nonprofi t. And there’s more! Here’s a sampling of our new programs:

• Rosh Hashana Stations for families with young children • Beginner Israeli Dance and Nightclub 2-step• A reimagined “Educational Shuk” (with Selihot Service) • Nutrition, Brain Fitness, Organization Workshops and Duplicate Bridge• Wednesday Night Bistro (local artists such as 45th Parallel) • Volleyball!

As fall approaches, with it comes the beginning of a new school year as well as the Jewish New Year. This seems a very appropriate time for us to refl ect on our own connections and to thank you for connecting with us!

Warm regards,

Lisa D. Horowitz Jordana LevenickExecutive Director Operations Director

P.S. We want to offer even more ways for you to connect and learn how we can make our programs fi t your needs. Join us at our fi rst Wednesday Night Bistro, Sept. 21 where you can speak with staff and share your ideas for new programming. Or share your ideas with us via email to [email protected].

Monthly Mitzvah Project This project refl ects the Jewish commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), providing opportunities to give back to our community. We are very grateful for the generous support this program has received through a grant from the Oregon Jewish Community Youth Foundation. Each month look for the lobby display highlighting the organization of the month. Check the display for how you can participate and donate to these worthy causes. Below are the fall mitzvah projects.
