Missy Higgins: The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle, Keith Urban: The

Story So Far

After a five year break Missy Higgins is back on form with her new album that certainly does have moments of

razzle dazzle and finesse. This album is not some introspective look at Higgins disappearance from the music

scene but more of an ‘ode to joy’ that there is always hope regardless of the problems we face every day! The

dozen songs we are given are a very personal account of relationship studies and will bring back good

memories of why we enjoyed Higgins music in the first place. The excitable opening song, ‘Set Me On Fire’ is a

beautifully written song all about melody and how without it, songs as life would not have a sure foundation.

‘All In My Head’ is about one single note ringing out and signalling the early warning signs of a lover’s eventual

departure, a hauntingly good song with beautiful piano accompaniment and Higgins trademark sound and vocal

timing. To round off the album we have ‘Sweet Arms of a Tune’ which describes Missy’s challenges well, when

nothing else can bring comfort or soothe a troubled soul, the right music always can. The Surprise song of the

album was a little country styled tune named ‘Tricks’ that was written with U.S. singer-songwriter Katie Herzig, It

has a cool fresh sound with that unmistakable southern drawl in the chorus. This is a great album that has in two

words ‘razzle dazzled’ me. (MR)

Keith Urban, a household name in the country music scene who has been going strong for over 21 years, has

sung song, about a man loving his wife and family in ways that will bring trust and security. From being a man of

his word, honouring his wife’s mother and learning from her father to warm wet kisses and new days filled with

kept promises. What more could a partner want than a road of memories paved with love and honesty. (MR)
