It is truly an honor. I just started my 17 th year of coaching baseball in Missouri, and through my association with MHSBCA, BCA, and ABCA, I have been blessed to meet and learn baseball from some legendary baseball men. My coaching career started in 1993 on the fields of Mickey Owen Baseball School; then 11 years at Lakeland High School, and I’m in my sixth year at Bolivar High School. As has been said, baseball has been very good to me and my family. While the MHSBCA has been given awards and has grown in the past years, we still need your help. Like any group, team, or association, it is only as strong as its members. In or- der to improve on our programs, we need more members who are willing to state their opinions. We need more members who are willing to get their hands dirty. We are always looking for people who will help at the Senior All-Star series or the Sunbelt Showcases and Team Missouri. We need help with selecting All-State Teams and with the State Polls. Most importantly, I believe, we need your voice in legislative issues and ways to improve the game of baseball in Missouri. The way I see it, there are three levels of membership. I hope that everyone involved with high school baseball in Missouri will become involved at some level. Level 1: Become a member of the MHSBCA and BCA. This will get you informa- tion and allow your players the opportunity for scholarships and awards. Level 2: Become a member and attend the clinic and meetings. This will allow your voice to be heard in the Hall of Fame voting, All-State voting, and in legisla- tive issues. Level 3: Become a member, attend the clinic, and become part of the MHSBCA by serving on a committee or running one of our programs. Personally, I have been at every level. My first few years of coaching, I was at Level 1. I jumped to Level 2 when I started attending the ABCA and MHSBCA clinics in 1998. I had- n’t planned on getting to Level 3, but I was asked to serve and I said “yes”. I have said “yes” to several different responsibilities since then, and each time has fueled my passion for baseball and opened professional opportunities that have benefited me and my family. I invite you to say “yes” to one of these levels over the next two years. Baseball has many clichés, but I hope everyone will take their turn at bat, step up to the plate and come through in the clutch for MHSBCA. We need you right here. Thank you again. I look forward to meeting all of you in the next two years, and feel free to email me at anytime. In Baseball, Eric Briggs [email protected] [email protected]

Message from the President Let me say thank you for letting me serve as your president for the next two years. It is truly an honor. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tony Perkins and I represent the Mis-

souri High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA). The MHSBCA is a fast growing asso-

ciation dedicated to the growth and promotion of High School baseball. We are a non-for profit

organization and all our officers and committees are volunteers. We have committed and hard

working coaches in all of these positions. We are hosting our 21st annual coach’s convention in Jef-

ferson City, Missouri on January 20, 21 and 22.

We would like to invite you to be a vendor at our clinic. The cost is just $200.00 and a donation of 2

prizes that we can raffle of to our general membership. A booth consists of one 10' fold out table.

Some vendors have purchased 2 in the past, and the cost of this is $350.00. The Clinic will be held at

the Capital Plaza Hotel and Convention Center W. McCarty St. Jefferson City, Missouri 65101. The

phone number at the motel is 1-800-338-8088.

The clinic will begin Friday evening with a few speakers and a coach’s social. There are speakers all

day Saturday broken up with our annual awards luncheon. There will be another coach's social

Saturday evening. Sunday morning begins with the FCA breakfast and clinicians until 12:00 when

the clinic ends.

We would like to offer our vendors the opportunity to purchase an advertisement in our annual

member coaches’ directory. This directory goes out to every member of the MHSBCA, and it is an

excellent way to compliment your product. The coaches will not only get to meet you at the clinic,

but see your ad year around. The cost for a half page ad is $50.00 and $100.00 for a full page adver-

tisement. A sample of the directory will be available at the clinic registration table. Don’t miss out

on this opportunity.

I look forward to hearing and working with you at our clinic. My home address is 1206 Kingstowne

Place St. Charles, Missouri 63304. You can mail your check made out to MHSBCA here and that

will reserve you your booth. You can email me at [email protected] or call me at home at 314-

807-1755. Reserve your table early. If you are unable to attend and would like to donate some prizes

you can send those to me as well. You can learn more about our organization by visiting our web site

at www.mhsbca.net.

September 1 started the new membership year for the MHSBCA which will run through August 31, 2011. The dues will continue to be $50.00 which covers dual membership for the MHSBCA and BCA. All membership dues are to be paid to your Missouri Association (the MHSBCA). The only money you need to send to the BCA will be your BCA clinic registration fee and luncheon fee if you are attend-ing the BCA in Raleigh, NC in December. Please notice our membership dues are still $50.00 per person. However, this year there is a change in our clinic fee. The new fee is $50.00 per person if paid before December 1. After December 1 (or on site) the clinic fee is $60.00 per person. Register early and save $10.00. Please send your membership and MHSBCA clinic registration fee as early as possible. It would be a great help for Janet now that she is back to working full time. Eric Briggs and John Meyer are hard at work putting together another great lineup of speakers for the Janu-ary 2012 Convention in Jefferson City. We will put a tentative schedule of speakers on the website. The MHSBCA has become stronger every year thanks to all the volunteers who have made our programs so successful. Everyone has done a tremendous job. Anyone wanting to take a more active role in the operations of your association, let someone from the executive committee know. Thanks again for all the help.

Old Equipment Donations Needed

Coaches,

As we are all well aware with the adoption of the BBCOR standards all of our old bats are now illegal for game play. If you

would like to see those old bats put to good use I have suggestion. For several years MHSBCA coaches have donated old

equipment to be sent poor kids all around the world. Imagine the joy that your old BESR bat would bring to a kid playing ball

in the streets of Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, or one the other dozens of countries that we have been able to send sports equip-

ment to over the last 15 years. Just this week a shipment of bats, helmets, and other equipment was sent out

on its way to Cuba.

All you have to do is bring any old bats and equipment you want to get rid of the MHSBCA clinic in January. I'll take it, sort

and clean it, and send it on its way. We take all kinds of equipment, uniforms, just about anything. If you have any questions

feel free to contact me at

[email protected]

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the clinic.
