FANNING: 500 AND COUNTINGMississippi State Head Coach Sharon Fanning reached the 500-win plateau, 31 years into her career, on Nov. 10, 2006, when the Lady Bulldogs defeated Troy. All of Fanning’s 521 career wins have come at the Division I level.

LADY ‘DOGS ALL-TIME IN NOVEMBER MSU is 74-39 all-time during the month of November, including a 40-19 mark during the Sharon Fanning era. Six of the Lady Bulldogs’ losses have come against na-tionally-ranked teams.

AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE TEAMSAll-time against non-conference teams, MSU is 363-287 (.558). During the Sharon Fanning era, the Lady Bulldogs are 131-66 (.665).

VERSUS RANKED OPPONENTS State is 29-170 all-time against ranked opponents. Last season, the Lady Bulldogs went 2-5 against top 25 teams. MState has never beaten the 10th ranked team in the nation (0-3). MSU’s last win over a top 10 team was against ninth-ranked Florida, 79-75 in Gainesville, on Feb. 18, 2001.

AGAINST THE BIG 12Mississippi State is 2-6 all-time against the Big 12.

RICHARD HITS 500 POINTS MARK With her nine points against Iowa, Marneshia Richard broke the 500-point mark of her career. Richard and junior guard/forward Robin Porter are the only current Lady Bulldogs to have reached the milestone. Rich-ard has 508 career points, while Porter has 595 to her credit.

MOVING ON UP Three current Lady Bulldogs are climbing the career leaders list in two all-time categories. Senior Imesia Jackson (444) and sophomore Alexis Rack (393) are approaching the 500-career points mark, while Richard has 214 career assists, 56 shy of 10th on that list. Junior Robin Porter scored her 500th career point last season and now has 595 to her credit.

LIGHTING IT UP Sophomore guard Alexis Rack ended her freshman campaign with 64 three-point fi eld goals made. She is now three shy of entering the career top 10 list. Of the former Lady Bulldogs on the list, Rack has the most three-pointers made as a freshman (Tan White had the previous-best of 53 three-pointers made). Of those 10, only Cynthia Hall (82 as a junior) and Angela Harris (89 as a senior) have a higher single-season total.

FANNING APPROACHING MSU WIN #200MState Head Coach Sharon Fanning is two wins shy of her 200th win at Mississippi State

GRIMES STEALS AWAY CAREER HIGHWith her four steals against Iowa, Tysheka Grimes tied her career high, set two times last season.

FIVE PLAYERS TALLY DOUBLE FIGURES For the fi rst time since last season, fi ve Lady Bulldogs scored in double fi gures in the same game. Alexis Rack led all scorers with 21 points, while Tysheka Grimes, Donnisha Tate and Marneshia Richard added 11 each and Bethany Washington had 10.

GRIMES NETS DOUBLE-DOUBLE With her 11 points and 11 boards, sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes tallied her third career double-double on Sunday. She also had a career-high fi ve assists.

JACKSON EARNS PRESEASON NOD MSU senior forward Imesia Jackson was selected to the Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches All-SEC Second Team. The Lady Bulldogs were voted to fi nish seventh among league teams in the coaches and media voting.

FRESHMAN GOVERO NETS CAREER FIRST Freshman Mary Kathryn Govero tallied her fi rst career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 18 minutes played against Belmont. She becomes the fi rst non-starter since Miayorka Johnson (12 points, 11 rebounds vs. Mississippi Valley, 11/26/06) to net a double-double (no known freshman non-starter has ac-complished the feat in researchable history).

JACKSON HITS THE BOARDS FOR CAREER HIGHSenior forward Imesia Jackson brought down a game-high 13 rebounds against Belmont to set a new career high in the category. Jackson’s 13 boards are the most for a Lady Bulldog this season and the most since Robin Porter had 16 against Tulane last season.

WASHINGTON STEALS AWAY CAREER HIGHWith her fi ve steals on against Southeastern Louisiana, sophomore Bethany Washington set a career high in the category.

TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAMMState had a total of eight charges taken by three dif-ferent players this season. Imesia Jackson leads the team with fi ve.

SHARON FANNING

13TH SEASON AT MISSISSIPPI STATE

198-162

32ND SEASON OVERALL521-388

Now in her 13th season at the helm of the Mississippi State women’s basketball team, Sha-ron Fanning continues to guide the program to new heights. When Fanning fi rst came to Missis-sippi State University, she had a vision of building a quality Lady Bulldog basketball program. Time combined with hard work and dedication has paid off, as the program has reached national promi-nence since her arrival before the 1995-96 season. In November 2006, Fanning became the 29th NCAA Division I head coach to record 500 wins. During her tenure at MSU, Fanning has tutored two Kodak (now State Farm) all-Americans in Tan White (2002-2005) and LaToya Thomas (1999-2003). As a senior, White led the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game, was named to the Associated Press’s All-America Second Team, Frances Pomeroy Naismith recipient, all-SEC First Team selection and became the SEC’s all-Time Ca-reer Steals Leader in addition to fi nishing atop fi ve MSU career categories. She became the second Lady Bulldog to be drafted into the WNBA when she went as the No. 2 pick in the 2005 Draft to the Indiana Fever.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi State women’s basketball team got double-fi gure scoring from three players as the Lady Bulldogs (3-0) snapped the nation’s second longest home winning streak with a 66-51 win over Belmont (1-2) Thursday evening in Nashville. In the fi rst half of action, the Lady Bulldogs traded baskets with the Lady Bruins before putting together a 10-0 run spanning more than fi ve minutes long to go up by 10 at the 10:01 mark. Belmont pieced together a short 6-2 run of their own, chipping away at MState’s lead to bring the score to 19-11. Back-to-back three pointers a fi eld goal by Belmont’s Shaunda Strayhorn would bring the Lady Bruins as close as four points, but that was as close as they would get in the half. MSU took a 28-22 lead into intermission. In the second half, Belmont fought back to come within two with 17:04 remaining in the game. State responded with baskets from Mary Kathryn Govero, Donnisha Tate and Tysheka Grimes and jumped back out by 13 with 8:37 left. From there, MState extended its lead out to 22 with under a minute remaining and took the 66-51 win. With the win, MState improves to 3-0 for the fi rst time since the 2001-02 season. CANCUN, Mexico – Iowa controlled the boards and scoring most of the afternoon as the Hawkeyes (4-0) defeated the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (4-1), 60-54, at the 2007 Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico on Thursday afternoon. A fast-paced fi rst half featured four ties and saw Iowa jump out on top 3-1 early in the period. They extended that lead out to fi ve before MState got a three-point basket from sophomore Alexis Rack to tie the game at 10 with 13:49 left in the period. After trading baskets and the game’s fourth tie, Iowa turned out a 5-0 run to jump out by fi ve with less than 10 min-utes remaining. Junior guard Robin Porter’s jumper at 5:14 cut the Hawkeye lead to one, but it was as close as the Lady Bulldogs could get as Iowa led by four, 25-21 at the intermission. Iowa shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe in the fi rst half, while the Lady Bulldogs were just 2-of-7. The Hawkeyes also controlled the rebounds in the period, bringing down 20 compared to MSU’s six. In the second half, Iowa came out and extended their lead to eight on a pair of baskets from Ausde-more and Kristi Smith. State responded with shots from senior forward Imesia Jackson and sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes, but the Hawkeyes controlled the period early and led by 12, their largest lead of the game, with 11:34 remaining in the game. MSU fought hard to cut into the Hawkeye lead. Slowly, they chipped away on baskets from Grimes and Jackson. With a free-throw shot at 8:26 left, the Lady Bulldogs had rallied to within one. State stayed within that margin as late as 6:20 after a Porter three-point shot, but the Hawkeyes bounced back out to lead by nine with 1:46 left in the game. State got back within four, but it was not enough as Iowa took the six-point, 60-54 win. Iowa continued their dominance of the boards, out-rebounding MState 39-21 on the afternoon. A total of 21 Hawkeye points came off second-chance shots. Wendy Ausdemore led the way for Iowa, shooting 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Ausdemore tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds on the afternoon, while Kristi Smith also netted 17. Jenee Graham led all rebound-ers with 16 boards on the afternoon. Jackson and Grimes scored 10 each for MSU and Rack and junior guard Marneshia Richard added nine in the loss.
