The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPN. BULLDOGS HOPE HISTORY REPEATS 29 YEARS LATER The last time a top-ranked team travelled to play at Mississippi State (albeit in Jackson), the Bulldogs pulled off a stunning 6-3 upset of Alabama in 1980. Mississippi State has played only two games against No. 1 teams since the upset of a Bear Bryant team that had won 28 straight games. State lost to #1 Tennessee in the 1998 SEC Championship game 24-14, and lost to Alabama 32-7 last season. DOGS HOPE TO CONTINUE FLORIDA WOES IN STARKVILLE Florida has not beaten Mississippi State in Starkville since 1985, a stretch that includes Bulldog victories in 1986, 1992, 2000 and 2004. Florida was nationally ranked in the last three of those contests - 13th in 1992, third in 2000 and 20th in 2004. MULLEN TO FACE FORMER TEAM, HEAD COACH First year Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen will coach the Bulldogs against his former employer this weekend as Urban Meyer brings his Florida team to Starkville. Mullen coached at UF from 2005-08, serving as offensive coordinator. Prior to his stint in Gainesville, Mullen worked with Meyer at Utah, Bowling Green and Notre Dame. RUSHING ATTACK AMONG NATION’S BEST The Mississippi State offense has relied heavily on its running game this season, running the ball nearly 65 percent of all plays (324 rushes, 503 total plays). MSU has gained 1533 yards (219.0 ypg) on the ground and ranks 13th nationally and fourth in the SEC in rushing yardage per game. DIXON SETTING SCHOOL RECORDS, CLIMBING SEC ALL-TIME CHARTS With a 57-yard touchdown run in last weekend’s victory over MTSU, senior running back Anthony Dixon surpassed Jerious Norwood’s school record of 3,212 rushing yards. Dixon now has 3,299 yards and ranks 17th in SEC history. Dixon is approaching other all-time SEC marks, as he sixth all- time with 787 career rushing attempts and tied for 10th with 37 rushing touchdowns. Dixon is State’s all time career leader in rushing yardage, attempts, touchdowns, 100-yard games, points scored and ranks fifth in all-purpose yardage. DIXON AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS IN RUSHING Not only has Anthony Dixon etched his name in the record books for career work, he is among the nation’s leaders in rushing during the 2009 season. Dixon has racked up 696 yards in six games this season, good for an aver- age of 116.0 yards per game - 10th highest in the nation and third in the Southeastern Conference. OFFENSE CONTINUES TO MOVE BALL, TURNOVER-FREE AT MT The Bulldogs average 390.3 yards of total offense, which would be the second highest in school history, and State’s 192 first downs is only 41 shy of the school record set in 1982. In last weekend’s victory over MTSU, State did not commit a turnover for the first time all season. In its three wins, MSU is plus-eight in turnover margin, in four losses the margin is minus-12. DEFENSE LEADS WAY TO MSU WINS The first part of head coach Dan Mullen’s plan to win is “Play Great Defense,” and it’s easy to see why the head coach emphasizes the point. In MSU’s three wins, the Bulldog defense has allowed only one touchdown (in the fourth quarter against Jackson State) and held opponents to 45.7 yards rushing per game. In its four losses, State’s has defense has allowed 17 touchdowns and 188.0 yards rushing. FOUR NON-OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS IS BIG HELP Last season, MSU did not score a single touchdown from a non-offensive source - it was all touchdowns, extra points and field goals (and one safety). Through the first half of this season, State has scored four. One on a blocked punt, one on a kickoff return and two on interception returns. Mississippi State 9

No. 13 Florida 35

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Dallas Baker had a career-high 123 yards receiving and a touchdown, and No. 13 Florida rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 35-9 victory against Mississippi State.

The Gators also avenged last year’s 38-31 defeat in Starkville, a loss that cost coach Ron Zook his job.

Florida (5-1, 3-1 SEC) didn’t spend much time this week talking about revenge, though. Players and coaches were more concerned about correcting problems

that resulted in a 31-3 loss at Alabama a week ago, a game in which the Gators failed to score a touchdown for the first time in 13 years.

Urban Meyer’s offense showed some improvement against Mississippi State, but continued a trend of incon-sistency primarily due to a shaky offen-sive line, a weak running game and a quarterback who has yet to fully grasp the spread-option offense.

The defense finished with six sacks, three turnovers and two safeties.

Special teams downed four punts inside the 15-yard line, recovered a muffed punt to set up a score and blocked one for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Chris Leak, playing with a sore right shoulder injured against the Tide, threw an interception on the opening drive. Running back Kestahn Moore fumbled twice - the Gators recovered both - before getting benched. And Florida scored just once, a field goal, in its first six possessions.

Jonathan Lowe’s fumbled punt got the Gators going in the second quar-ter. DeShawn Wynn scored on the ensuing play, a 13-yard run that includ-ed several missed tackles and put the Gators ahead 12-3.

Florida looked to increase the lead, but Chad Jackson’s fumble at the 1-yard line landed on the pylon and resulted in a touchback for the Bulldogs.

Mike Henig found Keon Humphries for a 56-yard gain right before half, but Keith Andrews missed a field goal that might have given Mississippi State some momentum.

Leak scored on a quarterback keeper in the third to make it 19-3, but Jerious Norwood answered with a career-long 76-yard TD run. Norwood, who ran for 174 yards against Florida in 2004, finished with 113 yards on the ground.

The defense responded with a safety on Mississippi State’s next pos-session, then Leak put the game away with a 15-yard TD pass to Baker. Leak finished 18-of-33 for 244 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Terrence Holmes capped the scor-ing when he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.

GAME NOTES• State's fourth-quarter picks of

Florida passes marked the first multi-interception game of the season by the Bulldogs, and the first since a three-INT outing against Ole Miss last year.

• Florida's second-quarter safety was the first two-pointer by an opponent against the Bulldogs since 2002 (Arkansas).

• In researchable history, Mississippi State had never allowed two safe-ties in one game.
