Peace and all Good!
Every genera on has seen horror enough to qualify as apocalyp c. Yet how many s ll set their watches and try to predict the end of the world. They look at current events—such as the terrible things happening right now in the Middle East or the powerful earth-quakes in Italy—and then predict the end of the world—even though Jesus says that we know neither the day nor the hour. It will be like a thief in the night. However, Jesus simply says to speak wisdom that is given to us by God. When the me comes, those who have been fed by the word of God will know what to say in witness to the message of Christ. I would like to invite you to our last “Soup and Study” presenta on on the Gospel of Ma hew, which takes place this Thursday evening in St. Francis Hall. We begin at 6p.m. with delicious homemade soup and con nue with our study of the Gospel at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! Next Sunday, November 20th, The Solemnity of Christ the King, Pope Francis will officially bring to a close this Holy Year of Mercy. As this takes place at St. Peter’s in Rome, we will gather at the Holy Doors of Old Mission San Luis Rey for our own closing ceremo-ny a er the 10 a.m. Mass and the Noon Mass. All are invited to a lovely short ritual right a er those Masses. May we keep the flame of compassion and mercy burning in our hearts always! Finally, everyone is encouraged to take part in our special Thanksgiving Day Mass at 10 a.m. The Eucha-rist is the best way for us to give God thanks. Please bring non-perishable foods to church with you that day. Remember the word “thanksgiving” is really two words: thanks…giving. We give God thanks for the gi s we have received and give of ourselves to others who need our assistance. Thank you for your generosi-ty! Love,
S T E W A R D S H I P T H O U G H T
In today’s gospel Jesus tells his followers there will be plenty of me for them to bear witness to what he taught and did. He helped them under-stand that the Holy Spirit would guide them and help them persevere in
their own stewardship of his gospel even when friends and family betrayed them. Do our friends and neighbors, or classmates and colleagues, know we are disciples of Jesus Christ? How do we bear witness to Christ each day? Do we hide our faith out of fear of rejec on? Or are we bold in our witness to others? Are we good stewards of Christ’s gospel?
When God blesses you financially, don’t raise your standard of living. Raise your standard of giving.
Say AMEN if you agree.
CLOSING of the HOLY DOORS
I wish that the Jubilee Indul-gence may reach each one as
a genuine experience of God's mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forge ng com-
pletely the sin commi ed. – Pope Francis, Le er to Archbish-
op Rino Fisichella, Sept. 1, 2015.
Save the Date!
On November 20th, a er the 10am and 12noon Masses, there will be a celebra-
on for the Closing of the Holy Doors, and end for the Jubilee Year of Mercy. There have been many Jubilee Years – 26 ordinary Jubilees and three extraordinary – and each has featured a special plenary indulgence (the complete remission of all temporal punishment due to sin). To receive the Jubilee Year indulgence, you must be in a state of grace, sacramentally confess your sins, re-ceive the Holy Eucharist, pray for the inten ons of the Holy Father, and pass through our Holy Door before the end of day, Nov. 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Christ the King. Reconcilia on is available Saturday, November 5, 12 and 19 at 9am in Serra Center.
COLLECTION FOR NATIONAL NEEDS - Nov. 19 & 20
Next weekend a second collec on for Na onal Needs will be taken up. This collec on supports the African American and Na ve American Mission, the Catholic Home Mission, the Catholic Communica on Campaign, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic University of America.

8 | PARROQUIA MISION SAN LUIS REY, Oceanside, California - 13 de Noviembre de 2016
QUERIDOS AMIGOS,
¡Paz y Bien!
