CELEBRATING INTERNAL COMMUNICATION EXCELLENCE ACROSS THE MIDLANDS AND THE NORTH
BOLDY GOING WHERE NO OTHER AWARDS GO... PREPARING FOR BLAST OFF...Well, what a blast!
May 24th, and 200 people came together in Leicester at the National Space Centre to celebrate the very best internal communication and IC talent in our two mighty regions.
And what a night it was!
The glittering 2018 Central and North IoIC Awards – Mission Excellence – landed successfully. After being temporarily rerouted, following a climatic battle with the 'Beast from the East', the May awards landed and lived up to our previous year's awards. In fact, we heard from you that this year's space-based awards were the best yet! No pressure for next year's awards then! A big thanks to the involvement of our members and volunteers from across the regions for making it happen.
This year, we gave out a record number of awards and partied until the early hours. In fact, some partied well beyond the cosmic curfew! And thanks to everyone who tweeted about the awards.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the people and organisations who, over the past nine months have given up their time to help us create the awards and the event.
The regional awards are important for a number of reasons. Primarily, they recognise the important work being done in internal communications across our regions. The awards also bring together in-house teams with consultants, agencies and events professionals for an evening of fun, laughter and networking.
And, finally, thanks to everyone who entered the awards and attended on the evening. The awards make an important financial contribution to help us run the IoIC, which as a not-for-profit organisation relies on our teams of volunteers to help us keep championing the work we do.
On behalf of everyone at the IoIC, thank you for your support.
Many thanks
IoIC Director & Central Region Director Rich Baker IoIC Director & North Director Andy Holt
Special thanks go to our distinguished judges who made it their mission to judge mountains of entries. Thanks also go to Steve Moffatt for organising and briefing our judges, VMA for kindly volunteering their boardroom, and Brenda from IoIC for organising and transporting the trainload of entry submissions.

“ “The Central & North Awards 2018 was, yet again, another fantastic event at an amazing venue (I think storm troopers was a personal highlight!) but beyond this it’s a wonderful celebration and recognition of the out-of-this-world work taking place in these two regions. Jen Sproul, CEO - IoIC

Receiving an Award of Excellence for my work is definitely a boost to keep working at what I do! It was great to be a part of everyone’s achievement and some amazing work was displayed. The event was amazing, couldn't get better than walking into an awards ceremony with STORM TROOPERS! Aliya Mahmood, First Utility
We were especially delighted to be announced as the class winner in the Best Digital category for our work with the brilliant team at Tarmac. Digital is a big part of our business these days, and to have our online team recognised shows that our investment in this area is bearing fruit.Eddie Gormley, 44 Communications
The venue was spectacular and the IoIC fraternity certainly know how to throw a party. For me, the IoIC Awards celebrate success, reward endeavour, inspire creativity and nurture best practice within our community. For our campaign to have been recognised by our peers is a huge source of pride within our business. It has put a spring in the step of every single team member.Justin Phillips ,White Cross Vets
It's one of the most exciting and enjoyable awards events I've ever been to! Clare Pillinger, Anglian Water
Here at Write the Talk, we’re all delighted and honoured that our story shaping work has beenrecognised at the IoIC Central & North Awards this year. After winning six awards on the night, including Class Winner in Best Animation for Allied Irish Banks, we feel proud to have been part of such a dazzling showcase for innovation and talent.
And what a showcase it was! The hard work of the IoIC organisers must be applauded too. Their tireless attention to detail resulted in an awards event with the perfect balance of gravitas and celebration.Sandie Hampson, Write the Talk
Winning an Award of Excellence for Employee Event of the Year means a lot to us and is a great example of our working relationship with our clients, in this case Hayley and the team at First Bus. It is an honour to have our work recognised at your event for the second year running. Thanks for a fab night!Joe, Janine and Tom, Simply Better
What a great night! It was so fun to get out of the office and come together with fellow professionals to celebrate some really amazing work. Emerald were thrilled and very proud to receive an Award of Excellence in the Best Employee Event category and it was made even better that we got to celebrate in such an incredible venue.Nicola Craven, Emerald Group
It was a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to meet with lots of inspirational peers. We were thrilled that our hard work was recognised and extremely proud to come back to Newcastle with our Award of Excellence!Emma Wales, NBS
We were literally blown away to receive two class wins and the Tom Dawson Award for overall comms excellence, for the team’s hard work. I love that we’ve been recognised for the real results we’ve driven for our business, all on a tiny budget. We pride ourselves on being creative on a shoestring because our business is aiming to be more efficient. It’s great to be recognised externally for how we contribute to this aim and compare what we do with other organisations. It was certainly a great night for celebrating all things comms in our regions!Jane Clayton, Northumbrian Water Group
It’s always good to win at the Central and North Region Awards because we know from long experience that it’s every bit as competitive as the National Awards.Louise Birkett, Western Power
I’m thrilled to receive this award on behalf of Severn Trent. I’m hugely passionate about great internal communications and creating an awesome place for people to work. I’d like to thank the IoIC for the award as it is in recognition of us involving every single person in our organisation to help shape our future business plan, and that’s what I believe great internal communications and engagement has the power to do.Liv Garfield, Severn Trent Water
THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR MAKING IT AN AMAZING, SPECIAL EVENING. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
I've had a real blast. We've won three Class Winner Awards at a celebration that's simply out of this world. Thanks to the organisers for a stellar effort.Fran Mayou, RED Publications.
