Mission Impossible Rouge Nation Charachter Study

Abbie Lloyd Character studies: Mission impossible rouge nation Rebecca Ferguson In this photo the character is portrayed as a confident character that knows what she is doing. She looks like she’s working for the villain as she is wearing all black and has dark hair. There is some very heavy shadowing in this image which also implies a darkness about the characters. As you can see, there is still a male figure in the back ground of this image (he could be a bodyguard), although he is out of focus implying that the woman in this scene is leading a more important role. The bodyguard could also show that she can’t be 100% trusted by the organisation that she works for. He facial expression shows a bland yet, concentrated look towards another character. It implies intense concentration and understanding. I really feel that this shows that she has a high level of knowledge and understanding. In this photo the character looks like she has been struggling to breathe underneath the water by the way she looks as if she is gasping for air. This almost portrays her as a more vulnerable, prey like character in this scene and could be foreshadowing future problems of life threatening situations for her character. Another thing that makes her all the more vulnerable is her lack of clothing in this image. Not only does this make her more vulnerable, but it also portrays her as a provocative character with body confidence. Although the use of black on her bikini top along with her facial expression (which implies danger and struggle rather than being sexy) shows that she still maintains a form of professionalism about her, even in a situation like this that may seem more sexually orientated.

Character  studies:  Mission  impossible  rouge  nation-‐  Rebecca  Ferguson

In  this  photo  the  character  is  portrayed  as  a  confident  character  that  knows  what  she  is  doing.

In  this  shot  she  is  seen  as  a  powerful  women  not  afraid  of  a  man  and  can  handle  herself.  She  is  still  portrayed  as  a  sexual  attraction  to  people  as  she  wears  a  long  dress  with  a  bold  colour.  By  having  her  hair  tied  up  it  shows  that  she  doesn’t  mind  getting  her  hands  dirty  and  is  ready  for  anything  that  anyone  may  face  her  with.

However  in  this  scene  she  is  looking  more  vulnerable  and  needs  comfort  from  the  male  next  to  her  who  also  looks  very  shaken  from  the  event  that  is  before  them.  Also  her  hair  has  fallen  out  a  bit  suggesting  that  she  has  lost  her  goal  and  something  has  gone  wrong.  She  no  longer  looks  like  a  put  together,  strong  woman.  Instead  she  looks  scared  with  a  need  for  protection  or  help.  This  medium  neutral  angled  shot,  is  able  to  show  the  viewer  not  only  each  of  their  facial  expressions  to  give  an  idea  of  how  each  of  them  are  feeling,  but  we  are  also  able  to  see  the  two  characters  body  language  and  how  they  interact  with  one  another.  In  this  shot,  the  body  language  implies  that  there  is  some  form  of  relationship  between  them  by  the  way  he  has  got  is  hand  over  her  shoulder,  protecting  her.  In  this  shot  she  is  emasculated  by  him.

In  this  shot  we  are  able  to  see  her  getting  changed  out  of  wet  clothes.  Once  again,  she  is  portrayed  in  a  sexual  and  provocative  way.  In  this  scene  she  could  be  seen  as  a  bit  of  a  temptress  who  is  using  her  sexuality  to  her  advantage  amongst  the  males  in  the  room  although  this  idea  is  not  full  proof  As  she  is  facing  away  from  the  male  in  the  shot,  and  getting  on  with  what  she  has  to  do  in  a  mature  fashion  while  the  male  is  distracted  by  something  else.  This  over  the  shoulder  shot  that  has  been  used  puts  a  focus  on  the  character  in  the  background  (we  can  see  this  by  the  way  that  she  is  in  focus  but  the  man  is  blurred  in  the  foreground  of  the  shot).  However  it  does  place  a  significant  amount  of  importance  on  the  male  in  the  foreground  as  he  appears  the  largest  in  the  shot,  almost  as  if  he  plays  a  key  role  in  this  scene  but  there  is  no  need  to  focus  on  his  expression.  We  could  link  this  back  to  the  idea  of  her  being  a  temptress.  The  use  of  this  shot  may  be  to  distract  the  audience  as  well  as  the  men  in  the  room  in  this  scene.  Almost  making  the  viewer  part  of  the  action.
