Jessore district is located in theKhulna division of south-westernBangladesh. It is adjacent to theWest Bengal of India. The land-scape of Jessore region is the com-bination of plain land, coastal andforest area. Some parts of the areafrequently face natural disasters.More than half of the population inthis district lives below povertyline. They are suffering much be-cause of cyclone, salinity, Arsenic, flood, water logging, unemploy-ment, low literacy rate, river ero-sion and trafficking etc.Bangladesh is small developingcountry of South Asia, contains theseventh largest population in theworld. The vast majority of thepopulation in Bangladesh still livesin poverty. In recent years, therehas been a significant increase intrafficking of women and childrenin south-west region. Jessore re-gion is one of the most vulnerableregions for trafficking because ofits large population, large-scalerural-urban migration, the largepopulation living in conditions ofchronic poverty and recurrent nat-ural disasters. At least 10000-20000 Bangladeshi

women and children are traffickedto India, Pakistan and Middle East-ern country in every year fortraded, exchanged for sexual slav-ery & prostitution and bondedlabour across borders. So DAM believes that human traf-ficking is a gross violation ofhuman rights. civil society organizations andgroups using direct and indirectmedia in the vulnerable unions, up-aziilas and districts. The key mes-

sages against human traffickinghave been disseminated to door todoor in the vulnerable areas.Through the shelter home DAM of-fers a package of supports and serv-ices including safe shelter, food, counseling, education, recreationand training etc. For economic re-habilitation DAM provides entre-preneurship development andeconomic empowerment supportsto the rescued victims.
