What is AMSTI? AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology

Initiative) is a state-wide initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide. Its mission is to provide all students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in the workforce.

AMSTI is a research-based way of teaching and involves investigation-based instruction.

I will have an Afternoon with AMSTI Activities for parents in the next few weeks. Please be looking for information in an upcoming weekly newsletter.

Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our

community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.

Our class rules are: Be respectful and responsible. Be organized and follow directions. Be on time. Be prepared. No excuse policy.

Homework I will assign 20-30 minutes of homework every night –

Monday through Thursday. If your child has additional homework, it is only because he/she did not finish class work, and I am giving them the opportunity to do so. This should not happen often. If it does, please contact me for a conference.

Homework will not be made up if forgotten, left at home, etc. The only exception is if you are out due to extreme circumstances – illness, death, etc.

Homework passes can be purchased through our classroom “store”. However, I encourage students to hold on to these in case they forgot/lost their homework.

Tardiness School starts at 7:30 A.M. If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the

second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.

Work missed due to unexcused tardy will not be allowed to be made up.

It is important to be at school on time every day.
