Page 2: Mise en scene

In this image of Keri Hilson, the background colour of brown connotes wholesomeness meaning that she has a good health, it also connotes simplicity which is exactly what this shoot stands for. Within the frame there is no one expect Hilson herself, this suggests that she is the only person in charge of her career and life. Indicates a strong and hardworking woman. Her hair is short, which was before unusual for woman but with the help of celebrities such as Keri Hilson has now come back into style. She is not afraid to be unique and does not worry about what people may think of her. She has highlights within her hair which can relate back to herself. She may have several qualities/ attributes. The wave within her fringe is mellow not fierce, much like her personality. The make up on Hilson is not overbearing, but light and subtle. She is not overpowered by the make up allowing her natural beauty to shine through. The direct address made with the audience portrays confidence and power. The jewellery worn is large and ambiguous. On one hand being a female and liking jewellery is a stereotype which she is living up to. But on the other the thick chains draping around her neck is rather masculine much like her stance shows authority. The pose which Hilson takes can also be shows as masculine with her mouth slightly open and leaning to the side. It outlines the control she has, whilst being different.

This image captures the fun side to Beyonce, as well as her dedication to fashion. The pose which she has taken is sexy and seductive which is the main representation of women within the RnB/ Hip Hop world. However beyonce has made this fun, she looks like she is enjoying herself with her laughing facial expressions. This shows her to not take things to serious and always see things in a positive way. Eye make up is worn heavily to attract attention to her femininity, whilst making direct address with the audience. Her hair is long and flowing showing sophistication. However her clothing is not long or flowing, it is shown as short and tight, reflecting the just how sexy music can be. The chains on her costume form around her neck as a collar. And her pose is very animal like as both legs and hands are on the floor. The pose alone can be interpreted as dog like due to the positioning. A dog is a ‘mans best friend’, perhaps the image is showing that Beyonce herself can be a best friend. The lighting in this shoot is focused on the models body outlining her figure making the image seductive. The background colour goes from dark to light suggesting that your mood can copy this, as beyonce mood seems extremely joyful.

In this image, Azealia Banks is making direct eye contact with the audience whilst making a playful facial expression. This suggests that the artist has fun when creating music, or in life, she does not take things to seriously. The red lipstick connotes sexiness, whilst making her look feisty. The long nails also add to her personality whist making her look much more feminine. The fact that the leather jacket is worn but not done up, exposing flesh adds a more sexual feel to the whole shoot. The colour of Banks' hair is unusual and unique much like her personality and music. The artist fills up the frame, which can indicate that her personality is big and may take over her. The Plain white background shows a sense of simplicity, but this however is contradicted by the artist herself. Perhaps she contradicts herself often, by being childish with the facial expression but then sexy with the clothing choices.
