ONE LORD, ONE FAITH Do you suppose the authors of the four Gospels were aware of today’s first reading from the second book of Kings? Of course they were.
The prophet Elisha fed a hundred men with twenty barley loaves in order to prove God’s power. This same miracle, now multiplied by more people fed by fewer loaves, is attributed to Jesus in all four Gospels. In today’s passage from John we even
have the detail that the loaves were barley, remind-ing every pious Jew of that miracle that Elisha worked. Yet Jesus went into hiding when they
wanted to make him king. It is the passage from Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians that gives us the reason for this. The power of Jesus comes from God. It is not meant merely to feed us, or to pro-
vide one group with a king. There is one Lord, one faith, one God and Father of all who works through
Jesus Christ and through us all.

FEAST OF FAITH
The Preface Dialogue “Lift up your hearts.” “We lift them up
to the Lord.” “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” “It is right to give him thanks and
praise.” With this ancient dialogue we enter the Eucharistic Prayer, the heart of the Mass. These venerable words have been part of the Christian liturgy almost from the beginning—by the time of Hippolytus of Rome (c. 215) they were al-
ready fixed in the liturgy. Several times during the Mass the
priest has invited us to pray. There is something different here. We are invited to be “lifted up,” to ascend, to climb the Lord’s mountain, as it
were, to go to a new place for this most solemn part of the Mass. And we are invited to a new frame of mind, a sense of joy, of focused dedi-cation: our hearts must not be cast down, but
lifted up, and lifted to the Lord. Why? Because we are going to give thanks—we are going to “eucharist!” It is right and just that we do this.

Our parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference sponsors “FREEBIE DAYS” several times a year when our storage rooms for clothing and household items are full. We invite our clients to come “shop” for free and select clothing, shoes, linens, household items, baby equipment and food.
Last month, in addition to notices in the bulletins at St. Michael and St. JPII Mission Church, Vin-centians also posted fliers in the apartment complexes that serve low income families and in trailer parks throughout Gainesville. Over 200 people were waiting when the doors to the Social Hall opened at eight o’clock. We also partnered with volunteers at My Sisters Place Women & Children Shelter inviting them to select items that their residents could use. Vincentian volunteers were present to greet and welcome everyone throughout the day, helping them find and package what they need.
.We are so grateful to our gener-ous parishioners that make it possible for us to host these events so frequently. God bless you for your support of our work with the poor.

School of Religion would like to introduce this painting of Mary made by one of our parishioners. The painting is the be-ginning of a Ro-sary Hallway pro-ject that will be located downstairs and will serve to help our children [as well as every-one who visits] be inspired to pray the rosary. The
painting itself is an answer to 6 years of prayer. We are thankful to our parishioners who have helped make this project into a reality and we invite all of you to pray for all of our children in school of religion as they prepare to go back to school.
Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued support.

Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ. Rest your weary ones. Bless your dying ones. Soothe your suffering ones. Pity your afflicted ones. Shield your joyous ones. And for all your love's sake. Amen.

Descansen tus cansados.
Bendice a tus moribundos.
Calma a los que sufren.
