(CHILDREN ARE DISMISSED FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL) *PASSING OF THE PEACE *CALL TO WORSHIP *OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN OF PRAISE NO. 27 ―God of Creation, All Powerful” +++ SPECIAL MUSIC ―Amazing Grace‖ arr. S. Eithun Joyful Ringers PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)

God, You call us to step out in faith, to place our lives in Your hands, and to wholeheartedly commit to following You. We confess that we find this difficult to do. It is not always easy to follow where You lead— to turn away from our own personal wants and desires, to let go of our safety nets and trust that You will provide for us in all things. Forgive us when we doubt You, God. Increase our faith. Open our eyes to see past our own interests and concerns to Your broader vision for us and for our world, and in that vision now, hear the quiet prayers of our hearts. (silence for personal confession)

    ASSURANCE OF PARDON

SONG OF RESPONSE NO. 131 ―Surely the Presence” Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place; I can feel his mighty power and his grace. I can hear the

brush of angels’ wings, I see glory on each face; surely the presence of the Lord is in this place. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*DOXOLOGY NO. 34 ―Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow‖ *PRAYER OF DEDICATION

*HYMN OF PREPARATION NO. 192 ―Mary, Did You Know?‖ +++ SCRIPTURE LESSON John 6:16-24 SERMON ―Keep Your Eyes on Jesus‖ Rev. Anne Schaefer AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (unison)

I believe in an innovative God, who does not wait for us to find ourselves, but comes seeking the lost and calling us into a new way. I believe in Jesus of Nazareth as God’s crucial initiative, that when he calls us to follow, Christ also gives us the power to become, both in creed and deed, the children of the living God. I believe in the Spirit by whom Jesus still comes to us, calling us to follow him into an obedience which is true liberty, and to a humble service which is the fruit of holy friendship. I believe in the church as the fellowship of Christ’s people, called to respect and support one another through joys and tribulations as we travel the road toward the ―promised land‖ of God’s future. Because Christ has called me in this I truly believe. Amen. — written by Bruce Prewer

    HUME Summer Camp

    2018

What makes summer better? SUMMER CAMP!

This year’s theme is Kujua, which means ―To Know.‖ The goal is to know God’s love for you. The most well known verse in the Bible is John 3:16, ―For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.‖ This summer at Hume, we will focus on God’s redemptive plan throughout the grand narrative of Scripture as He rescues His people from the curse of sin, and will one day restore all things. Our hope is that as we seek to know God more, our love for Him will grow, which will result in a life fully surrendered to Him.

    National/International Mission

    Local Mission

Spring is almost here! The National/International Mission Committee (NIMC) is continuing its support of a new mission at FPCP called Fitness in Christ. This ministry will host various events and fitness/fellowship opportunities while praising and giving thanks to our Lord. We are organizing a ―sprint‖ triathlon relay team(s) to participate in a fun filled, no pressure event for late summer.

The beauty of the relay means you’ll commit to doing either the swim portion (400-800 yards, to be determined), bike (approximately 12 miles) or run (approximately 3 miles). So, if you like to swim, bike, or run (or like doing all 3) or are thinking of a great reason to help get yourself in better physical condition, please consider participating--you have almost 6 months to prepare!

We are scheduled to have a short informational/organizational meeting Monday, March 19th, 6:30 pm in the Hearth Room. The goal of the ―sprint‖ triathlon team(s) will be to have fun and fellowship; raise some funds for a FPCP-approved partner; all while exercising our hearts, bodies and minds.

For additional details or questions about the upcoming meeting and plan, please reach out to Patrick Murphy at (734) 968-7534 or [email protected].

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

Crossroads news... We will be moving the annual meal we serve at Crossroads from the first Sunday in August, where it had been held for many years, to Sunday, April 29th this year. Please make note of this date change. Sign up sheets will be available closer to the event. The format will be the same as in prior years, with some preparation on Saturday morning, and the Sunday activity split into two parts: preparation in the morning, followed by serving.

Spring Into Mission! Two Teams Serving God’s Needy Children – One Fundraiser

We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve two different groups of God’s neediest children. In April, a team of 13 FPCP adults will be traveling to Tijuana, Mexico to help replace a roof on the computer

lab at Colina de Luz Christian Home for Children (www.colinadeluz.org), which is home to 53 boys and girls who have been abused, orphaned or abandoned and removed from physically and emotionally impoverished living conditions.

In June, 11 FPCP students in 8th-12th grade will be heading to Camp Barnabas Special Needs Summer Camp (www.campbarnabas.org) in Missouri as missionaries who will be serving at a Christian summer camp for people with special needs and chronic illnesses.

Please join us in these missions by both praying for each of our teams and by helping fund the travel and expenses associated with these faith building opportunities. Visit our table in the narthex or our table outside the Upper Room on Sundays, March 11

donation you would like to make. Inside your envelope, you will receive instructions for making your donation, along with a prayer card featuring one Colina team member and one Camp Barnabas team member. We ask you to cover each mission trip and your assigned missionaries with prayer as we prepare for and go to serve these two groups of precious children.

We thank God for your prayers of support and generosity! The Colina de Luz and Camp Barnabas Mission Teams

FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for the 13,000 children living in foster care in Michigan. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child each month. This month we are praying for 13-year-old Jonathan. Jonathan likes all sports, especially football and basketball, and he loves spending time outdoors, especially camping. He also likes to build things with Legos. “I build houses, and I build dinosaurs and race cars,” he

says. More info on Jonathan can be found at Mare.org. If you are interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044.

    News & Announcements

It’s that time of year again! The Nominating Committee is looking for people willing to serve a three-year commitment as Deacons and Elders. Is there someone in the congregation whom you feel would make a good Elder/Deacon? Or do you feel called to serve as an officer? Either way, the Nominating Committee welcomes your suggestions! The role of the Deacons is focused on compassion for and ministry to our church family. Deacons serve in many ways, including working with charities, attending to those in need, and supporting the mission of FPCP. The Board of Deacons is involved with clothing and food drives, serving communion, Salvation Army bell ringing, Red Cross blood drives, several Christmas projects, college care packages, various food and fellowship events, service dinners, and the Unsung Hero program, among other activities. The role of the Elders is to serve on Session as spiritual leaders of the church. Elders oversee the spiritual growth of the congregation and manage the various ministries, committees and programs of FPCP. Each elder is appointed to a specific committee, and these committees include Local Mission, National/International Mission, Human Resources, Stewardship, Christian Nurture, Finance, Communications, Membership, Worship, and Building and Grounds.

    RECOMMENDATION FOR DEACONS AND/OR ELDERS

Name of referral ___________________________________________ (Please use the space above to nominate a member of the congregation to serve. A nomination does not guarantee a position on Session or the Board of Deacons. Recommendations may be placed in the Narthex mailbox of Elder Susan Hagen (Clerk of Session and Chairperson of the Church Nominating Committee) or emailed to [email protected])

Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) Update – March 18, 2018 The past month has been very exciting! Our Ministry Information Form (MIF) has been entered into the PC(USA) Church Leadership Connection (CLC) System and is now active! To date we have received approximately 50 resumes, including several self-referrals plus, Personal Information Forms (or PIFs/resumes) of candidates that most closely match our (MIF) criteria. We held a “workshop” on Saturday, March 10th where we took a deep-dive into an initial group of ~15 PIFs. This session helped us to better understand the tradeoffs and importance of various strengths and weaknesses of the candidates. In the coming weeks, our focus will be on a Spirit-led, thoughtful review of each individual candidate to discern which candidates to continue the process with and eventually lead to interviewing. We will take however much time is needed to evaluate each candidate. Additional PIFs will be requested after completing the evaluation of those in hand. The FPCP website has been updated to include a ‘tile’ for the PNC with information for candidates as well for our members. The site includes a welcome to candidates from the PNC, frequently asked questions, and information on our church, Plymouth and greater Detroit. We encourage you to visit the Church website and check us out! Please know how much we appreciate your continual words of encouragement and prayers. In Christ,

    Presbyterian Women

Im/migration: Stations of the Cross Walking the Stations of the Cross, or “praying” them, is a traditional spiritual practice among Christians. It’s a practice that evolved so people anywhere could symbolically go on “pilgrimage” to the Holy Land and tap into the power of the

location and the events that happened there. By entering the story of Jesus’ last day through art, we reflect on The Passion outside of the intellect. We involve our senses, our experience and our emotions.

This year we are honored to present 15 Stations of the Cross representing a series of significant moments in Jesus’ last day, curated by Grace Commons of Chicago during Lent 2012, contemplating each station through the lens of immigration and migration. Artists from several churches and other organizations participated in creating the art. These depictions will be displayed throughout the main floor of the church during Holy Week beginning on Palm Sunday through noon of Holy Saturday. This journey will be open for your contemplation from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday – Friday and 9:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday. Please mark your calendar and experience this moving walk through the eyes of immigrants and migrants.

Attention All Women of FPCP Be a Part of a Lasting Legacy of Presbyterian Women at FPCP

PART TWO Several months ago, Presbyterian Women collected jewelry with the intent of creating a piece of unique artwork. It will hang in the Women’s “lounge” adjacent to the women’s restroom on the first floor of the church. We received many beautiful donations which we hope represents all the woman within our church so they can be a part of this distinctive creation.

Starting on Sunday, February 25th, and continuing every Sunday following through March, you will have the opportunity to have your hand in creating this piece. Between and after services, you are asked to visit the Building &

Grounds’ “office” on the lower level so you can physically glue a piece of jewelry into our design ~ perhaps you can even glue the piece you donated. At the completion of the piece, all women who donated/created will be listed on the back of the artwork. We urge you to become a part of FPCP history.
